I praise the two lady Italian vets that treated my 12 year old border collie in her last moments on this earth. My dog Gracie had a tumour that was beginning to destroy her inner organs, and after the scan it was decided that the only course left for me was to have her put to sleep.
The two vets were very compassionate and made her departure as comfortable as possible. She just seemed to sigh, relax, then go into a nice sleep. That is the good experience I had with Grove Lodge Animal Hospital. The negative experience(s) that I witnessed was at the reception. My friend and I walked in, and no one even said a word to us, no "good afternoon"
(the appointment was for just after 12 noon), so we sat down, and it must have been a full 5 minutes before anyone spoke to us. Meanwhile, my dog was suffering. There were three receptionists behind the desk, one lady was on her first day there, but the other two were not busy, but still did not take any notice of us. One of them was even drinking out of a two litre bottle of a soft drink, in front of all the customers! I was hurt and disgusted with this reception.
It was obvious that we were distraught with knowing that my dog had a limited time to live.
This is not the first time that this has happened to me. Back in 2009, when I had to take my previous border-collie for treatment, we had the same reception then. I complained, and I eventually received a reply, apologising about this incident, and that they have now improved on their reception staff. This has not happened!
The young receptionist at the South Street, Lancing branch could teach them some courtesy.
She is compassionate, and always greets you as you enter.
I will never use Grove Lodge again after these experiences, as no progress seems to have been made since my last complaint. Another thing is that one never sees the same vet twice, and in the last two weeks of appointments, they proscribed the wrong medication, but I still had to pay two lots of £90+ payments, and a further £30+ on the last visit. My vet in Germany was disgusted with what had been proscribed. She has many years of being in practice, and is highly rated in the profession. It was only when I was in Germany last year that my dog made progress, due to the correct treatment for her illnesses. The vets at Grove Lodge told me that my dog had arthritis in both her front legs. In Germany she had a thorough check-up, and they said that she not only had arthritis in both front legs, but also all down her right-hand side, and in addition to this, she had spondylitis of the spine. After being with Grove Lodge since 1984 (the practice run by Mr Fry-a very good vet) I have given up with them.
When I get another dog, I will keep as far away as possible from Grove Lodge. read more
