Dr. Claire Lohn is the best Veterinarian I have ever met, hands down no contest. She is soooo sweet and takes the time to really talk to you and I just am so grateful for her helping me with my kitten Toby and also my 18 year Jasper who passed away in September. Which was absolutely devastating and still is but Grove helped me through it. I can't say enough good things about her. When you meet her you can just tell she is a lovely soul and really cares and wants the best for your baby. I am so grateful she is there. Thank you Dr. Lohn for being awesome!!! I took my cat to get a checkup and ended up having to put him down and throughout the whole process the staff there, specifically Dr. Lohn was very friendly and helpful and gave me all the information I asked for. They gave me time to spend with my cat and didn't rush me and didn't make me feel judged for crying. They got me his ashes the next day which I was very happy about, and the containers they gave me and the paw print are very nice. Highly recommend this clinic (and they partner with the humane society which helped so much with costs). Can't recommend this clinic enough! read more

I have spent thousands of dollars at Grove Vet Clinic over the last two years caring for my senior cat. Yet when I called on a Saturday morning to request a refill of a pain med for my 16 year old cat to be refilled, the receptionist informed me she would have to request it from the doctor. That was at 9:00 am and they closed at 3:00 pm. I called again about 12:30 p.m. and the receptionist informed me they were very busy and she would call me. It was 3:00 p.m. when she called and did not even leave a message. Too late to pick up any medicine. My CAT DIED in that night in horrible pain. THIS CLINIC DOES NOT CARE ABOUT ANIMALS OR CLIENTS. I cannot begin to say enough good things about Grove Veterinary Clinic in Newport Oregon. The compassion and caring of the entire staff is fantastic! We had to euthanize our 16 year old miniature poodle that we loved with both our hearts, but our veterinarian was in Tualatin over two hours away. I called Grove and they immediately set me up with an appointment and made a horrible day livable. EVERYONE from receptionist to veterinarian felt our pain and showed their love. The procedure was quick and painless for our little dog and we will never forget their kindness. We even received a hand written sympathy card from the entire staff! Our elderly kitty scratched her eye and from that an ulcer developed. Being here in Newport for the month, we had to look for a vet and found the Grove Vet Clinic. We called and they took us in right away. All the staff was very friendly and helpful. Sophie was seen by Dr. Charles Hurty and he gave her a very thorough examination. Upon discovering the ulcerated area, he prescribed antibiotics and eye drops and requested a revisit to make sure it was indeed healing. She's on prednisone and that slows the healing process. He took a great deal of time drawing and explaining what was going on and the importance of getting this healed in a timely fashion. We feel very lucky to have found Dr. Hurty, as well as Dr. Clunes and Dr. Knight who have helped us with both Sophie and our other kitty, Boey. read more

I love this place. They have late hours so I don't have to take a day off from work to bring my pet in for an appointment and they are truly caring. There are a variety of doctors and my daughter and I have noticed that each one has a special focus - One doctor always looks at their teeth and another always checks their ears, but we certainly don't mind. My pets and I have always been treated with genuine compassion and care. Once when we brought Frank in for dental work, they called us and told us he didn't need quite as extensive a treatment as we had thought, saving him some stress and me some money. Life savers! This is Baily's Tale... Baily, our elegant, Handsome, sweet, adorable, warm, furry, cuddle-bug, has a chronic asthmatic condition. In October, on the evening prior to our departure for a trip to Italy, he had an unusually severe attack. He lay on our bed, gasping, glassy-eyed, tongue protruding, his little heart beating like a trip-hammer. I truly thought he was leaving us. My wife was frantic. I kept trying to soothe her and him... We made it through the night, sleepless and stressed. The next morning we whisked him in to Grove Clinic to see Dr. Charles Hurty. Baily spent the better part of the day receiving oxygen treatment and bronchio-dilating drugs. With our travel plans hanging in the balance, I persuaded Dr. Hurty to let me take Baily home. We were prepared at this point to scrap our long-laid travel plans, but Dr. Hurty and the staff at Grove reached out to us with the name of a pet sitter who actually lived minutes from our home. We made contact and an angel arrived at our door almost instantly... Baily can be a bit taciturn when it comes to meeting strangers, but he fairly leapt into the arms of this wonderful, loving soul. She was available and willing to care for our boy in our absence. And our plans proceeded... Over the course of the next week and a half, in our absence, this angel worked with Grove Clinic, Dr. Hurty and associates and Dr. Brooks at the Lincoln City Animal Clinic to solve a subsequent emergency situation. We have no doubt that without their expert, loving, compassionate and timely care, our beloved friend, Baily, would not be with us today. These lovely people saved the life of our dear cat.... Everybody here was wonderful. While visiting yachats from California, our 14 year old pit/boxer mix collapsed and was in clear distress yesterday morning. This clinic had great reviews and was about a half hour away. We rushed her over and they saw her right away. It was touch and go with possible euthanasia being considered. They stabilized her and called the university at Corvallis to follow up. We drove the hour to Corvallis and they kept her over night and discovered an arrhythmia peculiar to boxers. She is scheduled to be released this afternoon with medication. The level of care at grove and Corvallis was amazing and got us and penny through a major health crisis. Very thankful for the professionalism and genuine love for animals at both facilities. read more

My dog Pippy had an appointment yesterday morning and she received exceptional care. They treated her for problem in her rear legs. She was so sensitive that I couldn't even brush her in that area. Took my dog here today. Staff friendly, got us a appt quickly. Took pet in for urinary incontinence. Vet did exam gave us antibiotics, though u/a was clean, Antifungal because he smelled like yeast, and pills to help stop incontinence. Total cost $500.00.... This seems very excessive to me. We paid because we want the best for our pets, but I find this disturbing. I think if you were on a fixed income or min. wage job, you would be out of luck with this business. read more

We lived in Newport for a year and needed a vet for our chihuahua. We went once right after our move for a check-up; the doctor was very friendly and informative. He explained why we didn't need some of the harmful vaccinations I thought we did (saving us money) and even provided tips about living on the coast. About nine months later our dog developed a skin condition around his ears. Over about four visits, Grove took wonderful care of our little guy - especially Dr. Clunes. After the initial attempt to heal him failed, she searched until she found the answer (which seemed to be relatively rare and hard to diagnose). The clinic continued to call and check up on him until his skin cleared up. She consistently had a warm, positive attitude and listened to all our concerns and needs. We were incredibly sad to lose Dr. Clunes at Grove as our vet and hope to find someone equally dependable and invested in Portland. read more

2/14/18 update to my original five star review two years ago due to major staff changes. I downgraded my review for several reasons My dog had a bad ear infection and they made me wait four days which made for complications. Learned later, they told me to call every morning at 8 to see if they could fit me in. I don't think that's good. Vets have changed. I now take my dog mostly to Williamette Animal in Corvallis. My biggest recent complaint is their not being proactive about vaccinating for the horrendous dog virus that so far has killed 90 dogs in California. Our animal shelter brings in dogs from the Bay Area and we in Newport have hundreds of visitors with dogs from California and elsewhere. read more

We came here with our 6 month old Frenchie, Blue, while on vacation after she was bit in the eye by a carpenter ant. Lena got us in immediately on a Saturday, even with 5 pending emergency work-ins, after speaking with Dr. Bahr about the situation. The entire staff came out to meet Blue and made her very relaxed even though she didn't feel well; this put the humans at ease. We were very pleased with Dr. Bahr's assessment and friendly bedside manner, helping to relax Blue. I cant compliment Dr Wes enuf in his gentle and calm demeanor when caring for our dog. Years and years ago when Dr. Jay Fineman was here, my family brought everything from a dog to a one-eared, rescued squirrel here for treatment. I was very young and still remember how kind he was. Years later, my senior dog was having some issues and, even though under new ownership, I knew I would seek help for him here. I'm so glad we did. The staff and technicians were so friendly and helpful. Dr. Marianne Clunes took such good care of Bonkers. So many places see a senior dog walk through the door and want to run every test under the sun, she was very discerning and conservative with treatment and testing recommendations. I was on vacation in Yachats when my 10-year old Golden Retriever, AnnaBelle, jumped over some driftwood catching her dewclaw on a log and ripped the nail completely off! Being far from your family veterinarian and having your normally courageous dog crying and flinching in pain makes you very stressed. I called Grove Vet Clinic and spoke to Denise who helped calm me down and very professionally took my info, told me how to get AnnaBelle's medical records to them and scheduled an appointment for us! When we got to the clinic everyone greeted us and made us feel cared about. AnnaBelle was treated very kindly and offered pets and cookies while we waited. Dr Jeanie Maddy examined AnnaBelle and even through the pain Anna could feel the kindness and concern which helped calm her down. She wasn't scared when Dr Jeanie took her to the back to take care of the wound. Dr Jeanie explained what she needed to do, reported back in detail after she cleaned and dressed the wound and made sure we understood the healing process. AnnaBelle lost her entire dewclaw nail and the raw stub was horrifically sensitive. Dr Jeanie applied numbing cream before attempting to clean and wrap it and she waited until it was numb to treat it. Her sensitivity was greatly appreciated by us both! Dr Jeanie made sure I knew what needed to be done during the healing process, advised us to follow up with our family, and even gave me a package with all the materials needed for the first change of dressing which would happen while we were traveling home. This is a great veterinary clinic and the caring they show to strangers is amazing. I truly appreciate that they got us in quickly and took such good care of Anna and me! Thank you all! read more
