Nice old lady but sometimes nice is not enough, you need someone who is intelligent and will take care of you well. After all this is taxes, a serious matter. One wrong move and BAMM you are audited. I was watching as she was doing my taxes and she was frustrated because something confused her and she kept clicking things until it let her move on to the next page. In my mind I was thinking "What the **** is she doing? I hope I don't get audited." After all the taxes was done. I paid. She never told me about the price increase. Instead of paying the $179.99, I paid somewhere around $245 for doing a simple 1040 tax return. SHE NEVER TOLD ME ABOUT THE PRICE INCREASE FOR DOING THE TAX PREPARATION. I was so caught up and happy that everything was done I didn't think about the price and just paid with my credit card. I am sure a lot of you guys are like that when you buy something at a store and pay for it but not realizing it wasn't the price you were expecting. I didn't find out about it until this week when I opened back my 2015 taxes because I never got my State return. I looked at the receipt and realized they charged me an extra 65 bucks. I called customer service to try and get back the difference but they were useless also. Now I have to call the state and I bet something she did will cause me to have a headache the next few days or weeks. Next time I am going to Liberty Tax Service (because I heard it is way cheaper) or doing it on turbotax.com myself, where it is FREE if you are just doing a 1040. I wouldn't be as upset if they told me about the price increase or were CLEAR about any additional charges. But I was told the total price at the end, but like I said I was so happy everything was over. I really didn't question or analyze the break down of the price. Let's face it, all of us have done this, paid without fully being aware. I guess I am guilty of that. If it was an extra 10 or 15 bucks, I wouldn't be upset. But $65 is upsetting especially since I lost my job. I give this place 1 star for at least a nice employee and 0 star for the service. Overall, 1 star. This firm could not have cared less or been more unhelpful. They were constantly rude and condescending in emails and when you matched their attitude they cried victim. They are massively disrespectful and think you should just take their attitude and smile. They don't answer questions and on the off chance they do are very rude. Just all around rude nasty people. Mr Ritchie has been preparing taxes for over 40 years. He knows a great deal and keeps up to date…read moreon all changes. He is in his late 70s and is eccentric to say the least. He hates phone calls, texts and email. He likes faxes and mail. This review is more for his existing clients as he seldom takes on new clients. It helps if you are referred by an existing client. He no longer takes on new clients with difficult returns (i.e. businesses, self employed, rental income and multiple K-1s/K-3s). The office moved in July 2023 to his home. No, he did not publish this information. The phone and fax have not changed. Existing clients should call to find out the new address and to make an appointment or when it is a good time to drop off or mail your paperwork. As always, expect a long wait time on drop offs and mailings. He tends to do them last and you will most likely end up on Extension. If anyone forgets to provide him with any paperwork they will end up on Extension. He dislikes having to look over a tax return a second time, especially during tax season. His time management has always been bad. Your patience will be tested. He has slowed down considerably in his work and you may be sitting with him for hours as he prepares your return. If you are his next appointment expect to be waiting awhile. Communication with his clients is always limited. He listens to all messages but seldom returns the call. Replying to emails is rare. After April it is almost impossible to get a hold of him. If you are on Extension, he will wait until September or October to speak with you. His plans going forward are unknown. It is best to call immediately to make sure he will continue to do your tax returns. His assistant is no longer handling the day to day work in the office. She is working from home on an assigned list of clients. That means his office will look very unorganized, but he says he knows where everything is.
