A gentleman named Ouri came to do the assessment. He answered all my questions satisfactorily concerning how the task was to be approached, so I kindly asked him to proceed. The work was very clean and done in less than an hour. Payment was made on the spot via Square, invoice by email. I paid for material and 1-hour labour at a reasonable cost. We got a quick and very reasonable quote from Surrge. Our condo board also required some information from/about the electrician in order to approve our renovation request, and we were able to get it promptly from Surrge as well. Once we got the approval, we were able to schedule a time for the electrician to come within a few days. On the day of installation, the electrician was available early and we were asked if he could start 2 hours prior to the scheduled time. We didn't mind one bit and it turned out to be a good thing. I guess we weren't clear about position of the electrical panel from the laundry room and how wires would need to be run in the ceiling to get there, but the electrician (Mike) pointed this out and said unfortunately it would have to be more than what we were quoted. Mike explained why, what would have to happen, how long it would take, and said it would be up to us if we wanted to proceed. He was very clear and friendly. No pressure what-so-ever. We proceeded and he ran to Home Depot to get some materials since he was expecting something different. About 45 minutes later he returned and started working. He tried his best to keep things neat and tidy as possible...and tried to keep the number of holes he would need to make in the ceiling to a minimum as well. He left the pucks to help with the drywall repair as well. Overall, the work was relatively quick, and we were very happy with it all. Afterwards, we were contacted with the final cost breakdown and paid online. Mike then contacted an inspector and scheduled time for him to come back and check on the work. He called to let me know immediately, and reminded me on the morning of the day the inspector came. The whole team is very professional and courteous. We will definitely be using them again for future projects, which we chatted with Mike about so that would could get some ideas about what's possible, etc. while he was here as well. The equipment is generic china made stuff which is locked to think protection, which I put up with because of low monthly monitoring cost. Everything was going well for them, until Ring came along and ThinkProtection increased their monthly monitoring charges. It doesn't makes sense for me anymore for the following reasons: 1. Ring entered into the market with their own monitoring system which has better equipment and lower subscription plan. (Ring premium plan with unlimited devices for 100$ a year) 2. I have a ring doorbell for which I pay (50$ a year - Ring basic plan for 1 device only). So the additional cost I'll incur is 50$ and will do away my commitment with Think Protection for 200 $ a year resulting in 150$ savings. 3. Think Protection increased their monitoring charges after a year I was with them to 15$ a month+tax which is more expensive than Ring premium anyway despite the sub-standard equipment. 4. The capital expenditure I incurred to buy the think protection equipment is down the drain as the equipment is locked to them and can't be used with another provider. Make an informed decision after considering all the facts. Don't just fall for the low monthly monitoring cost as they'll increase it soon. Also, in a way they lock you in because you wouldn't want to switch away from them as you have made significant investment at the start while buying the equipment.
