We had to wait for a table for Sunday lunch, a first of all the guachinches we tried. The interior is decorated in cozy corner market fashion with tons of jarred/canned goods (none of which are for sale).
The champiñones empanados were a huge hit with my dining party. I personally didn't like them too much. They were lightly breaded and deep fried, topped with cheese. The garbanzas were good, cooked in typical Spanish fashion, and had ?chorizo and ?pork belly/tocino. The grilled octopus was amazing! But a disappointing amount of octopus for the huge platter of plain lettuce, tomatoes and papas arrugadas (salty boiled potatoes). The Angus beef solomillo was deliciously seasoned and flavorful--kind of reminded me of Peruvian lomo saltado. Desserts were just meh: lemon mousse, gofio mousse, and tiramisu. The tiramisu was super wet and unpleasant. Gofio mousse had an odd cereal-like flavor if you're not acquainted with the taste.
Service was prompt and the waitstaff checked on us periodically. It was a rather expensive restaurant-- 97€ for five plates, a nonalcoholic beer, and two half liters of white wine for four people. I think it's decorated very cutely for a romantic lunch date, but wouldn't come back, especially for how expensive it is. (Another guachinche we ate at was 35€ for four people for example). read more
