My husband and I travel to Las Vegas every Valentine's Day to celebrate our Valentine Vegas wedding anniversary, and this year we visited Guardian Angel Cathedral -- a beautiful recommendation from my father-in-law. From the moment we walked in, we felt such peace. The church is absolutely beautiful -- intimate, serene, and filled with a very special presence. We had the blessing of meeting Bishop Higgins and receiving a wedding anniversary blessing from him, which made our visit even more meaningful. It was truly a moment we will always cherish. One of my favorite parts of the church is the Sto. Niño statue -- it looks so magical and carries such a beautiful spirit. It really touched my heart. Another bonus is the location! It's within walking distance from Resorts World Las Vegas, which made everything so convenient during our stay. We are so grateful to God for blessing us with the opportunity to worship here and celebrate another year of marriage. It was such a beautiful and blessed weekend. The Cathedral is mid twentieth century design in Accord with Vatican 2. The interior resembles a tent which follows Old Testament dwellings in tent. The mosaics outside the cathedral and in the sanctuary are stunning. Mass was in full attendance with very excellent music and cantor. Always study the beautiful stained glass windows which represent the stations of the cross. Much history to this beautiful Cathedral! read more

This is a lovely church. Welcoming to visitors and tourists. I visited when I was staying at the Encore, and my room had a view of it so I took the opportunity to attend mass. I recommend this place for worship and just visiting. I did want to add that for some reason, a reviewer said it was next to a "dump strip mall". I don't see why to include such a negative. It's actually a clean and nice row of shops and a convenience store, and an awesome Indian restaurant called Divine Dosa. All in all it's a great vibe. read more

Located right off the strip next to the Wynn/Encore is a Catholic Cathedral perfect for going to mass over the weekend while visiting Vegas. I looked up the mass times online and came with my parents on a Sunday in December for morning mass at 11am. We got there a little early and the church filled in pretty quickly. There are a ton of hospitality workers, the cantor and pianist/organist were really good and the church was also super inviting. It was a very diverse group and great to have something off the strip for those traveling to attend mass. Beautiful church both inside and outside, parking isn't hard but it's a little tricky entering in because it's like a more than 4 way road/entrance and there's a roundabout. read more

The foundations of the Catholic Church formed most of the Eastern and Western Faith systems and cultural value systems. Catholicism is a reality in how real life works. It involves us not bowing to a false god or chasing our tails. This is gonna get some of ya heated, but just listen before you and throw that phone or slam the computer down on your lap top. So many get so angry over their religious beliefs that they close out all messages from any one. I'm not trying to change anyone, or convert ya to any thing. The "True" message of our god no matter what ya call him is "LOVE." Many forget this and just try and convince someone of their own beliefs, of what "I believe." That's not the true message of the Bible, Torah, or the Koran. Yes, all these books are similar too. If you are not aware of this then explore it more. Just think about this fact, the Guttenburg Bible was the first book ever published by Martin Lurther in Germany. My faith was forever shaken for a minute when I lost my beloved. Knowing that God has a bigger plan for us all, I was selfish for a moment or too, longing for answers to "why he is gone?" and "how could ya?". Lookin back now I know that my husband has been released from this world and is up in Heaven with my mama, and sister. I am not finished here though. Yes, we are the only ones that can come to the self realization that we are worth something and will go on. Our maker gave us "free will," so it's up to us to pull it back together to be able to receive the gifts that he has ahead for us. Please know that whatever relationship that you have with your maker should be beautiful and happy. Practice love and kindness no matter whom you bow too, or pray too. We may not ever be able to comprehend it m, but when you loose someone that is so close to ya for over two decades you start to remember those Sunday school classes and that ruler. Oh the ruler was for the boys, our wild Catholic boys; right! Or not!! Guardian Angel Cathedral is a Catholic Church that provides all the necessary needs to its members and non church citizens. Knowing that so many locals work in and around the strip area this church was constructed with "us that work here," to have a place to come and worship. Sunday services are available three different times and one can come in before service if you need this special time. It's a fantastic place for getting right with the man upstairs. Opened in 1963, it was renovated in 1995 with the famous artist Edith Piczek. All the murals in the front and back are her work, the stained glass windows and her most famous the large mosaic over the main entrance of the cathedral titled: Penance, Prayer, and Peace greets you as you walk through the doors. Her details in the cross over the alter are breathtaking and her spirit can be felt with the love that she used to bring the warmth to the walls of the cathedral alive. Every time that I visit here I usually cannot fight the tears; they just flow; but the the presence of so much love and light who can control it. After I leave my soul is always cleansed and I feel revived again to face the darkness with that of light and love forever will continue to conquer because I exercise these things that my maker bestowed me with. read more

Very pretty Church and very nice daily mass I came from New Jersey to visit. The Priest were also very good

My family and I hardly ever miss mass. Even on vacation we still make time for our faith. We frequent this church nearly every time we visit Las Vegas but our previous visit here unfortunately left us with bitter tastes in our mouths. During mass last weekend there was a gentleman standing next to us that appeared to be sick. With one of our family members being immunocompromised we then decided to move and sit at another pew. When we were about to sit down on a different pew one of the usher ladies came straight to my mom, got really close to her face, pointed her finger at her and yelled, "NO!" refusing for us to leave just because we wanted to move seats during mass. Uhm excuse me ma'am but my mother is not some child you can admonish and put on "time-out". She at least could have politely explained why without having to raise any voices, especially during mass. That experience made us really uncomfortable and upset. Also I'm not sure why the sewer issue hasn't been fixed for years, but the smell every time we visit is so strong that we have to sit near the front. However even in the front we can still smell it. I really hate to critique on churches. We are very blessed and thankful to have our Catholic churches so accessible for us. The church is beautiful and spacious. But unfortunately with how the usher treated my family we will look for another church for our weekend masses that can treat us with a little more respect and understanding. read more

I can count with one hand how many times I go to church while I'm home in Vegas. I'm a fan of big gothic churches like the ones in Europe and Vegas has none. What I do like about this church is the location - it's next to Encore/Wynn so we can easily go to lunch/dinner right before or after mass. The choir and orchestra are amazing and give me goose bumps every time I go. The priests make jokes and aren't boring. People who go here are 50% tourists and 50% locals. A cathedral just off the strip? Nice! One thing about Vegas, you are assured of a very cool interior after that blazing hot sun outside. Spacious with cathedral ceilings (Literally) and stained glass windows that let in filtered light, keeping the entire space very cool indeed. There are two smaller side chapels on the right side, and the Chapel of the Blessed Sacrament is all the way to the front, right past the organ/choir area. On the day I was there, a wedding was going on, so I had to pass everyone to get to it. It made me feel a bit embarrassed to be disruptive. Vigil mass (Saturday) is at 4 pm. This is a worthwhile stop on your trip to Las Vegas. The Casino bosses wanted a place for their workers to attend Mass on Sundays, as they were perennially late on those days due to having to travel to local Boulder City to worship on the Holy Day. So, this church was built, starting around 1959, and finished in 1963. For Las Vegas, that is basically ancient history. The architecture and artwork are impressive, even if not to everyone's taste. A Hungarian woman artist did the mosaic murals, and each has special significance to people of faith (you may have to study it to find out). The church itself is now a Cathedral, so the Bishop presides over it, and it is not a parish church. The Tribunal for the Diocese is right behind it, too. But they have daily masses, confessions, and other spiritual events. You don't have to be a believer or Catholic to visit, however. You can wander in and look around whenever it is open, and take photos. (No one will mind unless it is during a service). Go to the bookstore near the entrance, which has a decent little collection of tchotchkes and religious items. (It is usually staffed by sourpusses, but don't let that bother you). You can "light" an electric candle by one of the two side altars. The bathrooms off to the left of the church are clean and serviceable. They also have a Vigil Mass of as early as 2:30pm on Saturday, way before sundown, to accommodate tourists. If you go on holidays, or some Sunday masses, there is an amazing live musical accompaniment that will be better than most musical acts on the Strip...for free! A beautiful & peaceful place amongst the hustle & bustle of the strip. I remember coming here years ago with my grandmother & it's been far too long since my last visit. It's pretty incredible that this holy structure has been in the same spot since 63 & nobody has torn it down to build another CVS or mega resort. Some things just can't be explained & hopefully it'll be here forever. There's times in ones life that you end up at the doors of a church without planning on it and today was my day. This is the closest church to the Strip and the ones that all of the visitors go to after a weekend of overindulgence. It is obviously not attended by too many locals, and it is interesting to note that the altar servers are adults. Makes sense because local families would not tend to make this their home parish. Under the shadow of the Encore Hotel and Resort, it is a simple cathedral with beautiful stained glass windows. I most recently attended the 11:00 AM mass and it was a packed house. During the welcoming, the priest invited us to introduce ourselves to our immediate neighbors and learned that they were from all over the country. There are a ton of volunteers and it is refreshing to see them so involved. The priest was very welcoming and friendly. I'm glad me and my GF were able to come to church in Las Vegas. I was very happy to find that we could practice our Catholic faith here in Las Vegas on a Sunday. It's some what different from the Catholic Cathedrals here in Hawai'i. The songs here are sung differently. However, nothing is wrong with different as long as they are following the mass schedule. None of that fake stuff. Always the real stuff and going under one. So your pretty much in line with the rest of the Catholics in the world. So they do definitely take care of you. This place is so big and astonishing. It's such a beautiful place. The paintings here are very holy and inviting when you walk in here. You can pretty much enter this church at most doors here. Parking here is plentiful so please don't be afraid to come to church here. The picture I've posted to this Yelp review has a picture of Jesus on the cross and it hangs from the ceiling. That's something different I have not seen from any other church I've been to including one's I've been to in New Jersey, Philadelphia and Hawai'i. When you come here, you have your regulars and you have many visitors. I'm glad father told us to introduce ourselves to other people here. I've gotten to say that I'm from Hawai'i and still be able to meet people that have come from Texas and even other countries. Apparently this Catholic Church has been here forever! It seems like a good place for the transient travelers passing through to redeem themselves before or after a run through Sin City. The church itself is pretty (more so on the inside than the outside). Tons of pews and a high-arched ceiling. I will have to say this Cathedral is somewhat good luck. We got in bumped by another car on LV Blvd, at 4:45pm. We were somehow able to get to the 5pm mass on time after we pulled over, exchanged information, and recorded the incident. The mass also helped relieve a lot of the anger we would have been feeling toward the causer! We came before New Year's and it was PACKED. We typically come to Vegas on the weekend and if we're staying on the strip, which we usually do, so we come here. Very easily accessible going northbound on the strip if you have access to a car, and even the other way it's not too hard to get in, and parking is typically pretty open. Other than that, you can walk from most hotels on the center strip and can catch a cab for a decent fare if you so wish. Came here on Easter weekend once, and the place was so packed that they had to set up speakers outside for those who could not find space in the Church. Other than that, Sunday mass is not too crowded. We've even gone to daily masses here, and there are a few locals, or at least they look like locals, attending. read more

The Christian ( religious ) store inside Guardian Angel's Church by the entrance door is a specialty store that is hard to find in Vegas. I have a rosary, a bible, a baby Jesus, a Sacred Heart of Jesus, and Mother Mary images ( Portraits ) . My sister got me a crucifix necklace but my skin had a bad reaction to it and I got a bad rash so I had to take it off. I'm allergic to anything that is not 24k gold as far as jewelry is concern. That is why I don't wear anymore jewelries. Too bad, If I could only find a 24k gold crucifix necklace that is free of CHARGE and BLESSED by the priest ... For Christmas , I would feel more SECURE and SAFE PLUS protected by my faith because the crucifix represents Jesus on the cross who suffered for our sins and resurrected to seat in the right side of the father in heaven. Beautiful Catholic Church located at the end of the Las Vegas strip towards the back of Encore and Wynn Hotel. I have been coming to this church for years whenever I'm in Las Vegas. The stained glass is gorgeous inside! They even have a stained glass window donated by the actor Danny Thomas! One time a few years ago when I came here with my family, my dad saw Kevin James aka Mall Cop attending mass LOL I love the organ that they play in this church!! I've been coming to this church (as a visitor) since I was little girl and what got me at every visit was the first class choir and orchestra at every mass! Just beautiful music! But what would you excpect from a church in the heart of the World Capital of Entertainment? At any rate, if you're a Catholic out of towner and want to get married, and cannot fly/drive in your own priest, then you'll have to do it here. The diocese of Las Vegas is right behind the church and they are the sweetest people ever. They are very strict with their marriage rules and how you can/cannot use the church but its all in good reason as the church is just gorgeous inside to begin with and they are a cathedral and very busy. And because there's a big mix of locals and tourists, you won't feel out of place. At least I never did, and for a church as big as it is, they make you feel very welcomed. Father Larry Lentz, the pastor of the church, married us and totally remembered us when we visited 3 years later. So nice. Tips for your visit: The stainglass mural in the very front/right corner of the church has this AWESOME mural of the strip in flames! Our family recently attended a late afternoon vigil Mass here and were appalled. It appears that lighting is designed to illuminate the altar, the mural, and the distracting suspended crucifix which is a copy of the crucifix in Holy Name Cathedral in Chicago. There were no lights to illuminate the nave. We couldn't read the worship aids to participate fully; we can't imagine what it's like in darker winter months. We could not hear the priest, reader, or cantor clearly...maybe one word in ten. There are no "song boards" indicating the hymns, either; the cantor's announcement of the hymns was unintelligible. Showrooms--and even bingo parlors--throughout Las Vegas have mastered the art and science of lighting and acoustics. Why, in the thirty-year history of this diocese, has the Cathedral failed to do so? The assembly was rather sparse. While Communion under the form of bread alone may be theologically justifiable, it surely falls short of the fullness of the sign (and Lord's request) of "Take, eat; take drink." Communion under both kinds could be easily administered here--eg, by intinction, or with the invited assistance of communion ministers from parishes of the diocese. Liturgical instructions since Vatican II have indicated that the Cathedral liturgies should be a model for the diocese. The unique nature of Las Vegas as an international destination city suggests that its influence could be even greater. Sadly, the liturgy in many of the parishes of this diocese are far more faithful to the Council, and shame the Cathedral--and the bishop(s) in this diocese's history, whose seat is the Cathedral. read more

We're mid-mod and kitsch fans, and the owner of Retro Vegas, a very nice vintage store which we recommend, said this church was a must-see for a unique variation on the faux-woodcut art that was so popular with Catholic publishers in the late 60s and 70s. It didn't disappoint. The murals on the outside and the inside and the stained glass scenes had a very retro-futuristic look. We happened to arrive just as mass was starting, so we stayed and prayed for peace. As Unitarians we were able to find the progressive message we resonated with. The sermon was brief and pithy and relevant. When the service was over, we explored each of the chapels, visited the gift shop, and gave 10 dollars to the poor. There's a little box with a slit on top for this purpose. So, go for the art. Stay for a short ethics lesson. It's a fine way to pass 45 minutes (including the blissfully short, 30 minute weekday mass). And don't forget to give to the poor! read more

Beautiful cathedral in Sin City located right off the strip, right by Encore/Wynn. I frequent Vegas a few times a month, and amongst the hustle and bustle of the city, I come here to center myself and feel at peace at the 5pm mass. Not too many locals frequent this church, though. The crucifix/altar area in the center of the church is very elaborate art and super gorgeous. High ceilings. The stained glass and murals are beautiful and different. Within walking distance to the Peppermill, so went to Mass and then had a wonderful breakfast afterward. Two entries for Guardian Angel Cathedral on Yelp. Here is my review for the other entry: Cool Church. This used to be our "go to" church when we would visit Vegas on the weekends. It is conveniently located just off the Strip close to the Encore hotel and Wynn hotel. The cathedral is in the shape of a giant shaped "A". It is very colorful both inside and outside with the beautiful mosaics. The church holds over 1000 people (I believe). Even with all that room, the church always seems to be packed to capacity. Nowadays, we do not come here quite often. I try to avoid the Strip as much as possible because of all the traffic. If you do want to go to church on the Strip, then the Guardian Angel Cathedral fits the bill. read more

I've actually never been to mass here but my Mom has and she found out that they have a gift shop and every time she comes into town, she likes to go in to the shop. Last week we stopped in bc she was looking for something in particular and since I had no idea where and if Vegas had any shops detached from a church we came in on a Tuesday. I think they mentioned that their hours were from the AM hours until 2:00pm. The woman that cares for the gift shop was very sweet and helpful. read more
