LOL My first exposure to a pistol was roughly 10 years ago when I decided I needed one for self-defense. A friend of mine showed me the very basics at a local range, and I was actually fairly good (at the range) hitting a large male silhouette target paper. I went to practice sporadically but never felt quite confident with my gun. I'd heard of DSA/Marshal Luton through friends for years, but it wasn't until May of this year that I took my first class. What better than Intro for Ladies? Ya gotta start somewhere! That class was awesome, and I was shooting well enough at the larger targets that ACP1 was encouraged! I completed ACP1 this past weekend. Holy moly, talk about some intense (but completely do-able) training! We had a great deal of fun while learning very important lessons about proper draw techniques, pistol grip, sight alignment,, TRIGGER CONTROL, reloads... not to mention biomechanical efficiency, focus, and keeping calm on the worst day of your life (when you have to use your gun in self-defense). The instructors at DSA obviously care a great deal about what they do. They are serious as a heart attack about safety on range and I NEVER felt like I was in danger around them OR my fellow students in class. At the same time, during lessons, they also keep things fun and cut-up with all of us. I felt like instant family from my first Intro to Ladies class and it was no different in ACP1. I plan to keep training with Marshall and his crew for the foreseeable future, and I highly recommend them to everyone willing to invest in themselves like I have. I enjoy little personal touches. In the lobby they have snacks and a nice selection of cold drinks. They also have merch like T-shirts, hats, gun accessories. They also have local honey, cashews... homemade dog collars and leashes - good stuff! I bought myself a hat, love it! They have a nice high quality colorful detailed map of the property, which I thought was nice. I do better with visual rather than verbal directions. As for the lanes - they are very clean, they have fans for airflow, tables and chairs. Perfect place to hang out and bring a lunch. Best part they are completely covered with full shade! The RSO mentioned that they also spray for bee's and wasps so I didn't see any flying around, even with food out, That in itself was fantastic! In the men's bathroom they have a AK-47 toilet plunger. Thought that was pretty funny! Love the humor and personal touches! I also wanted to add that my personal gun for some reason wasn't ejecting the bullets each time I was firing. I went ahead and broke it down - put more oil on the spring .... Still didn't work. The RSO that drives around took a look at my gun and tried figuring it out. Unfortunately I need to take my new gun back to Scheels, it's not working properly and it has us all stumped... But that was cool that he took time out and he tried helping me.
