The staff in the triage trailer at the Guelph General Hospital emergency department are pathetic substitutes for true healthcare professionals. I went to the emergency department for severe chest pain and was treated terribly. I waited for several hours while convulsing and eventually vomiting. It became apparent at a certain point that they were actively ignoring the symptoms I was displaying in an attempt to get me to leave before receiving treatment. This is evidenced by the conversation I overheard between two staff members in which they stated that I was faking the uncontrollable shaking I was experiencing when they walked past. Additionally, they significantly lowered the temperature in the room (which was noticed by several other people in the waiting room) to make it more uncomfortable. I speculate that they assumed I was either under the influence of drugs, withdrawing from drugs, or drug seeking, because they requested a urine sample and blood sample from me. After hours of waiting and being ignored, I asked if it would be possible for me to be contacted if there were any abnormalities in my blood test results relating to my chest pain. I asked this because I was aware that they were choosing to ignore me and that my odds of actually being seen that night were very slim. At this point it was the middle of the night, I had not slept in well over 24 hours, and I had only 1% battery on my phone. If I did not leave soon I would be stranded at the hospital with no means of contacting anyone to take me home (and thus no way of getting back home aside from a multiple hour walk.) It was at this point that confidentiality laws were broken when a staff member shouted out my blood test results loudly enough that the rest of the patients in the triage trailer could hear them. The staff member then made several demeaning comments about me in a manner which can only be described as berating. These comments were once again made loudly enough for the entire triage trailer to hear. I speculate that when the staff member read my blood test results and saw that I was not under the influence of any illegal drugs, they decided to embarrass me publicly rather than accept that they had judged me unfairly. If you would like to be treated like a human being rather than an inconvenience, I suggest avoiding the emergency department at Guelph General Hospital altogether. read more

this is easily the worst hospital I've ever been to. the people are beyond awful as well. so many negative things I could say about how rude the workers were or how they lacked diligence and used their phones the whole time or I could speak of the unprofessionalism of the staff further and how the wait time is extremely long or how and terrible hygiene of the facility read more

Guelph general hospital I dont like and alot of other people I know say the same. Triage nurses should smile and the other nurse that takes your information has to move a bit faster!!! My son cut himself at work! We sat in the waiting area for 3 hours then had to wait for a bed for him because he lost alot of blood. Doctor never came in for 2 hours.not a nice doctor but he was chinese. Couldnt understand a word he was saying I told him to speak up and he did. I just visited Sunnybrook hospital for the 24th time today after my visit to the Guelph General hospital. After being exposed to a soft coral from my home aquarium. I began to have some discomfort in my eyes. I checked in with triage. I then made them aware I was not wearing safety glasses and was afraid I had gotten it into my eyes. This was a Monday morning. Dr. Hillary Jeanine Barrett Austin examined me briefly and diagnosed it as an allergic reaction. Unfortunately I trusted her professional opinion.......big mistake She gave me a script for an oral steroid and advised me to use Visine if it persisted. I followed those directions as instructed. On the Wednesday I decided to use a few drops of Visine, as my eyes were still blurry. Another huge mistake. Immediately when the drops mixed with the toxins. My eyes began to seriously burn and my vision was blinded. I immediately returned to the GGH in a panic and starting to go into shock. They wheeled me out somewhere in the hospital and told me to wait for the ophthalmologist. I was terrified and in insurmountable amount of pain. After a short period of time I lost consciousness and went into convulsions. At this point I woke up in a hospital room not sure how I got there. They then contacted the opthalmologist and she asked me if they had flushed my eyes. I told her that had not. The million dollar question at this point is? With all the doctors and nurses on duty.. Not one single person could have Google "soft coral eyes" In the meantime these neurotoxins burnt my eyes, eye lids and ultimately melted both my corneas. I thought this was an emergency room, was this not an emergency? I still can't wrap my head around this, it baffles me to this day. I now have scarring on both eyes and recently a cornea transplant. My vision is poor, but that isn't the crux of the problem. The burns are extremely painful and unbearable at times. It's a real treat If you consider this professional, you may want to set your standards a little higher GGH. It's a complete embarrassment to our health care system. The only people impacted in all this is me and my family. There were no repercussions to Dr. Austin or the GGH. Once again the little guy gets bent over and takes it like a champ. GGH step up your game please. Guelph deserves better and so did I. read more

There's a red haired, older woman that operates the ultrasound machine and I highly suggest you ask for someone else if you have an encounter with her. She's very rude. When I went there with my girlfriend, she got an ultrasound and she was judging her the whole time because of her age (she was pregnant) and she wouldn't let me come in the room which makes me think she didn't let me in so she could take cheap shots at my girlfriend. Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure ultrasound techs aren't allowed to judge people for what's going on in their lives. read more

I want to share an experience I had at Georgetown Hospital emergency department, I took a bad fall on May 20th went to the Emergency department after a few hours the Dr came in to see me and decided that I did not need x rays or bloodwork sent me home with no treatment. A few days later the pain was getting worst decided to go to Guelph Emergency for a second opinion and after having the staff at Guelph do X rays, ultrasound, bloodwork and a CT scan was told I had a broken 9th rib and possible bowel damage. If the bowel injury goes untreated it could be fatal This is not the first time I have gone to Georgetown and had a bad experience the level of treatment received at Guelph would rate a 5 Stars. They could see I was in a lot of discomfort and took the time for a proper diagnostic. I cannot say the same for Georgetown Emergency or ER Doctors Steve Prentice read more

15 hour wait on a Tuesday night to get a note written for a mis diagnosed prescription....hmm.....should I try a toronto hospital or go to Buffalo / Michigan and get excellent service and pay the price...clearly half of my income doesn't cut it for good service here at home! read more

First doctor Ian Phillips did a stomach surgery on me, claims it went well. However since its been 9 months and I still cannot swallow a meal normally. Pizza, bread, beer, wings, bagels are all things I have ZERO chance in swallowing. But even scrambled eggs, fruit and liquids cause extreme pain. I have returned to see him multiple times and he refuses to look for a solution, even though my quality of life has dropped drastically since he did this surgery. Today I booked a morning off work to get an upper GI done, and they forget to call to say machine is broken ...... I don't think theirs a way I could be any more un happy with the awful treatment and the lack of caring about myself from the hospital and its surgeon. read more

I entered hospital on November 27 2016 for a total knee replacement. From surgery to recovery then up to my room on the 6th floor, my care was the best of the best. My mother was admitted to emergency for broken ribs .The doctors on that night were amazing and so caring.She eas admitted to 4 east under the care of dr yi.my mom has chronic pain and is 76 .She was bed bound and house bound .Dr yi started her on a pain mamagement course and she is now walking and pain free .its almost like a miracle .we as a family cannot beleive it .Im so glad she took a vacation here from cape breton and ran into Dr Yi .He has improved her quality of life 100 percent .Thank you from the taylor family .You have gave my mom her life back.the people of guelph are so lucky to have you . read more

I've had two people close to me have long stays at this hospital. The first was a very scary week starting in the ER and then moving to the ICU. The second was a knee replacement. Both were filled with wonderful, caring nurses and knowledgeable doctors. We live much closer to Groves in Fergus but if given a choice we would choose this hospital every time. Hospital food leaves a bit to be desired but there is a nice cafeteria and Tim Hortons in the building. read more
