I needed help coming up with several outfits to wear for an important event. Before talking with Beth I was very worried that I would have to spend so much money buying new things that were classy and timeless. Beth surprised me by doing a survey of my closet with a very trained eye and coming up with several outfits I could wear. I only had to buy a single pair of fashion jewelry that cost me ~$20. I was referred to Beth through a friend of mine went from looking "okay" to "awesome" in the span of a month. He mentioned that he had sought help from an expert, and that she worked with him to distill his preferences and styles into a distinct "look." She took him shopping and helped him purge some of his old clothes and since it worked so well for him, I figured I'd take the plunge. I didn't consider myself in need of a "makeover" per se, and during the meet-and-greet phone call with Beth I joked that I was neither "hopeless or helpless." My challenge was that I was having a hard time finding clothes that matched the look I was going for, so it was time to call in a professional. One of the things I was struggling with was transitioning into a more grown up look, that dove-tailed nicely with how far my career had come, without selling out and looking like a freakin' Banana Republic mannequin (like many guys my age (40) who are also execs.) I had a closet full of super casual clothes (jeans, t-shirts, sneakers) that were fine for weekends spent mountain biking and skiing in Tahoe, but that I would never wear at the office. At work I wore nice clothes like everyone wears (from the Men's section at Nordstrom) and added a little flair so I didn't feel like a clone, but still I never felt like they were a true reflection of my passions outside of work and who I really am. On the weekends I'd go back to jeans and t-shirts, and after 10 years of this I almost felt like I was living a double life. Beth helped me understand that I could actually merge the two, and look badass, grown up, luxe, and unique in both scenarios. I was skeptical at first but she helped me go through my close and purge all of the basic stuff. (What's with every guy owning a gingham check shirt in every color?) Afterward, we spent a whole day shopping on Union Square and she introduced me to all sorts of new stores that carried EXACTLY the look I was going for, but which were off the beaten path enough that I didn't have to worry about other people coming to work in the exact same shirt I just bought. She also helped me get outisde of my comfort zone and wear things that were more fitted, and a bit more daring. At first I pushed back, but she said "Just watch, you'll wear it out, and some friends will tease you b/c it's a new look, but others (esp. girls) will compliment you and from then on you'll love that new shirt." She nailed it; this is exactly what happened. Beth is so perceptive about fit, fabric and style trends that she's a fashion savant. This attention to detail helped me find shirts, sweaters, jeans, boots, jackets etc... that I absolutely LOVE and none of them are from big label stores. After finally finding a singular style that works 7 days a week, I truly feel at home (not to mention proud) in my clothes and can't believe I was still buying lemming shirts from Brooks Brothers only a year ago. The real proof came the other day when I was getting dressed for an important meeting with the execs at a large fortune 500 company and put on a cashmere, Polo, v-neck sweater over a dress shirt. The guy staring back at me from the mirror looked so generic and mainstream that I didn't even recognize him, and I immediately took off the sweater (laughing at myself for how much I had pushed back on Beth when she had nudged me to put it in the "donate pile" only a few months prior.) I changed into one of my brand new, rugged-yet-classy, favorite outfits and instantly felt ten times more badass. The folks in the meeting looked me up and down when I walked in the room and noticed as well - mission accomplished. They say "the clothes make the man" and boy are they right. If you're busy, don't have time to read every catalog and track 20 different brands selling high quality, fashionable-yet-not-trendy clothing, Beth can de-mystify the landscape and have you looking like a million bucks in no-time. We wanted to find a really awesome present to our son and daughter (twins) for their birthday. I was a little concerned that we might spend a lot on a gift that was only "OK" or ""fine". When we gave them the gift I got the feeling that they would "make the best of it" but it didn't seem to be the hit we were hoping for. They started going over what the day's activities would be and Beth got information from them about what their styles, likes and dislikes are. Beth Alyse was a pleasure to work with from the first time I called her all the way to the day of the makeover. She helped me decide on which package to get for my wife's birthday present. I ended up picking the 5-hour makeover. To start, we met at Macy's and had a one hour consultation. The makeover was for my wife but luckily I was allowed to tag-along. She was very personable and enjoyable to talk with. I was very impressed with how good she remembered my wife's interests and fashion preferences. After the first hour consultation (which provided my wife with some key revelations, one involving why my wife holds onto so many pieces of clothing, how scarves are not right for her, hair tips, and how it's okay to infuse cute into her wardrobe), Beth dove right into picking the clothes! Some were not right for my wife and Beth was not pushy but provided reasons why they could be a nice look, allowing my wife to try out different looks. A lot of time was spent in the dressing room and trying on different things. We were able to narrow about sixty pieces to about five. And they all looked fantastic! Beth was also acquainted with the Macy's employee working there so she helped us a lot and even got us an extra 20% discount. I was really impressed with how great of service Beth was able to demand. Typically I dread Macy's service.... For the last 45 minutes we looked at shoes, talked about makeup (more revelations involving eczema, mascara, and rosacea). She was so knowledgeable about what makeup to use; I was blown away that she knew which brands and lines would be good for my wife's face. Beth was easy to talk with, knowledgeable, cool, and so so hip. I highly recommend her! That night we went to an Italian restaurant for date night and my wife looked so hot and more than anything she looked so happy. Happy wife, happy husband. read more

This was one of the best birthday presents I've ever had. The experience with Beth Alyse was transformative. We spent an in-depth hour discussing my goals, perspective, history, sense of self, and beyond. It was a really GREAT discussion and then we went and looked at clothes. We didn't spend very long looking at stuff at all; I reacted and commented and opined, and we ended up with a huge pile of stuff. We spent hours trying it on and discussing it. I walked away with some very clear ideas (I'm wearing my pants way too big, for one thing), some new tactics and a ridiculous pile of new clothes. I went to Beth to help update my choice of clothes, get a more flattering hairstyle, and select glasses. She was delightful to work with, and definitely helped me break out of old (bad) habits and a tendency toward no style at all. She nudged in very valuable ways, not letting me just say "That's not me" without probing on what that implied about my own self-image -- but it wasn't too touchy-feely. After six hours I was tired but have a new and really fun hairstyle, new glasses that I definitely would not have chosen for myself, and a bunch of new clothes that work together and with my figure. I moved to San Francisco about 4 months ago, and completely changed my life. After spending 15 years in finance, wearing suits except for casual Fridays where we got to wear khakis and a logo shirt, I was at a loss for how to dress in my new position, in my new city, and most of the time felt like I was a round peg in a square hole. The overall summary: Beth Alyse is wonderful, and the makeover experience exceeded my expectations! I'm a stay-at-home mom and hadn't really shopped for myself in a while so I was not just looking for a one-time makeover, but I really wanted to learn HOW to shop, do make-up, maintain my hair, etc. In other words, being educated through the process was really important to me. I was also a little nervous since I'd never done something like this before, and like most women, have my share or emotional baggage when it comes to clothes shopping and body image. I had two 6-hour Personal Intensive Makeover sessions with Beth. In the first session, Beth spent the first hour talking with me and my husband (who accompanied me) to really get to know me, what I was looking for from this process, and asked me some very thought-provoking questions about my opinions about fashion. She was very warm, respectful, and professional at the same time. What I appreciated most was when she talked about setting "ground rules" for communication for the rest of the day, i.e. how direct do I want her to be, what areas/topic do I want her to treat with some more sensitivity, etc. That was very helpful and made me feel very safe with her. My husband and I had one area of disagreement with her concerning length of dresses (for modesty) and Beth really took time to understand where we were coming from and she was able to find a way for me to wear things that looked good on me but in a way that didn't compromise our values. Because Beth knew that I wanted to learn, she struck a great balance of helping me find clothes and being mindful of how much time we had left with checking in and making sure I understood what she was doing. She also did a great job of helping me to stay true to my personality with the new clothes, hair, and make-up. So if I put on a piece of clothing that looked good but I didn't feel like it was me, she was totally supportive of me not getting it. In the first session, after our initial talk, we covered clothes, skin care, and signature scent. In the second session, we talked briefly, then covered more clothes, intimate wear, hair, make-up, and glasses. By the way, I also have to say that Alex (who does the hair) was also wonderful!!! Another plus - Beth had us do our shopping at Macys and we ended up getting a great deal on most of the clothes we bought! Between that and the amount of time I saved by having her bring me things that would have taken me hours to find, the makeover was totally worth it! What a great experience! Beth is incredibly insightful and knowledgeable about all the right stuff. I was a bit doubtful going in, not because of her, but because I wondered if I would just revert back to all my old fashionless ways afterward. No such luck! The stylist gave me exactly the cut I have always wanted (just didn't know it before), and the makeup suits me perfectly. I get compliments on my hair everywhere I go. Three sessions with Beth Alyse was the best birthday present my husband ever gave me!!! Beth is so knowledgeable about all things stylish AND she is very down to earth. She really took the time to get to know me and understand my lifestyle, and put that understanding to work in everything she did for me. Deciding to get a makeover with Beth was one of the best decisions ever. And more fun than you can imagine!!! I took my mom with me for the adventure, and what an adventure it was. We met at Macy's Union Square and had a cup of coffee and a chat, complete with a visualization exercise that gave us some insights we might have missed with just a conversation. Then off to the salon for a new do. Hunter Lane Treadwell, thank you for my gorgeous hair. I love it. While I was busy getting a fantastic new hairstyle, Beth was busy filling up the dressing room at Macy's. Beth did an amazing job of fitting me (I'm smaller than I thought) and picking out some great pieces I would never have selected. I tried everything on and had a room full of choices we needed to finalize. Beth made if fun to narrow down my choices with a great exercise of "close your eyes, turn around, the room is on fire, you need to pick what you absolutely must have!" I came away with just what I wanted, never any pressure. Then off for some skin care tips really addressed my skin issues, along with a great list of recommended products. This was one of the best experiences of my life. I have been procrastinating this for a while; one day I just picked up the phone and called. Needless to say that being a male I wasn't very comfortable seeking this kind of advice but all that changed as soon as Beth started explaining the whole process. I am a male in my early forties who has been using the same style for over two decades and wanted to get a more in-style look. I had a lot of questions as to what exactly she could help me with, what are the steps involved, how much can i accomplish in a session etc. She answered all my questions patiently and I was already feeling very comfortable by the end of the call. I went ahead and booked a 6 hour session with her. On the appointment day I met her in Union Square. One of my biggest worries was that I didn't just want to adopt someone else's style and be forced to wear something that didn't match my personality but that was not an issue with Beth; we started with a long chat where she first took time to know me as a person; she took detailed notes and had a very good idea about me by the time we finished chatting. I was very comfortable by now. We started with the hair stylist. She had asked me not to take a hair cut for some time so we had enough hair to change the hair style if needed. We decided that I just needed slight changes to the style and went to the salon. Her stylist was an amazing guy as well. It took us about an hour and I could see that I was already looking much more polished. The next stop was clothing. I have been a typical brown, grey, black kinda guy and was not very comfortable wearing bright colors. She helped me add some colors which were in my comfort zone by getting slightly bolder in one of the shades of blue for a shirt, then some combination of grey and white in a designer shirt, some plaid shirts with a hint of bold colors. I liked this approach; I was already getting comfortable with the colors and was now picking colored shirts myself. Then we moved on to pick some pants; she asked me to try somewhat tight straight fit pants; for a while I have been a khakis and jeans kinda guy so this was a huge change in look for me. It took me a while to get comfortable here. We only picked two pants that day and decided to try to get comfortable with this before we bought more. At this point she clicked a few pics of me in new pants and designer shirt and I could se a huge difference in my look. In the next session; we started with sunglasses and picked some really nice ones. Then went on to shopping for shoes; she helped me pick a few pairs of really nice in-style shoes. Of course I was supposed to only pick something beyond my usual black or brown colored shoes :-) so we ended up picking a grey wing tip shoe, a nice leather shoe and a very hip suede and leather oxford. Next we went to the barber shop to get the beard done. The guy there was highly skilled and both of them helped me pick a really nice style for beard. Then we went on to getting me better styled glasses which made a huge change as well. We wrapped up by getting me a few blazers and a few more pants and some shirts to go with the blazer. She helped me get bolder with my choice of blazers by adding a bit more style and slightly bolder colors. I was amazed how much my appearance had changed already without doing any drastic changes in style that would make me uncomfortable at work or with friends. When I went to work, my coworkers noticed change in my appearance and I got great compliments both at work and from my friends & family. Beth is a natural with this; she just looks at the person and instinctively knows what would or would not work for someone. She is also very intelligent and detail oriented who takes into account not just the style but more importantly the personality and history of the person. I really should have posted my review months ago. My husband gave me a day with Beth as a gift. I was a little nervous but she put me put me at ease quickly. Beth introduced me to Alex which is another review ( check his yelp site). Took my husband away for a mini makeover and got him in skinny jeans;) He looked Hot! Then it was my turn. I will admit having someone else bring you what will look good on you is overwhelming at first but as I tried things on and believe me some were NOT what I would have picked for myself. I had FUN! I wanted things I could wear casually and for business. I was specifically looking for a mother of the bride dress. Beth found outfits for all three and made me believe that a 56 year old women could look BEAUTIFUL! October 6 th was my daughters wedding. I worked with Beth Alyse this past spring when I moved to CA and to a new job that required a whole new professional look for me. I thought I was doing well, but last month I was asked to moderate a discussion for a very important group and it was to be taped for later broadcast as well. I knew what to do to prep professionally but not what to wear! In comes Beth to the rescue. I texted her a week before and asked if she might provide some text support as I dressed for the event. True to form she said sure and suggested I send pix of the pieces I was thinking of wearing to get started. She then started sorting the pictures and suggesting combos! Before I knew it I had tried on several different combos I never would have thought of and then she gave me the big thumbs up! "This is It" comes the text BUT it needs a long gold necklace with a pendant. I totally understood what she meant but did not have this item. She texted.. show me what you have. I pulled out a jade pendant that would work and she said, now go get two short gold necklaces and hook them together! WOW -- worked fantastic! I felt like a million bucks for the event - polished and jazzy. And the crazy patchwork of necklace was the icing on the cake! I would like to let you know about my experience with my makeover. I was very excited about my appointment with Guerrilla Makeover in San Francisco going by what was noted on their website. I was very happy with this hairstylist Gib he did an excellent job, but with the remaining portion of my makeover I was very disappointed, there was no noticeable change with my makeup (she just added to what i already had on **Beth the owner of the company**) or advise on what to wear to enhance my appearance. My coworkers and family didn't notice any change. The price of the makeover was $349 and that didn't include the haircut which was another $170,which i thought would be included. My experience with the event was very disappointing and I would not refer anyone to this company. I feel that the charge of $349 should be refund or to do over the makeover, but that was not offered. The service was awful and I feel that it was false advertisement and that I was scammed for my so call makeover. read more

We just did a makeover for my sister's hen night. I thought I would give a review of their service. Beth and Val were late to meet us for our three hour appointment, but did start off right away with a coffee and an interview. I did tell Beth we should concentrate on my sister as it was her big night out. I gave my sister a budget to spend on clothes (makeup was to be included in the makeover fee). The first store was Betsy Johnson. We were only supposed to spend 10-15 minutes in there, but dresses were stacked up in the dressing room without too much thought. We got slightly overwhelmed and spent too much time in there. It was the only clothing store we went to. There was also some pressure to buy clothes that were totally out of our price range. We did place some items on hold and left. After a quick stop to BriteSmile (useful for my sister), we went to the Macy's Benefit counter. There was some more time wasted before our brow waxing. Beth was great about directing my sister's makeup at the counter (much to the shock of some of the Benefit employees) but Val was also getting a makeover and buying makeup - aren't we paying for the time here? Soon, the three hours were up (I don't think the late time was tacked on the end) and Beth suggested more paid time to finish off my sister. I agreed (it was my sister's big night) so Val and I went upstairs to look for an outfit. She didn't really suggest anything and I ended up just picking out a dress from the sale rack and buying it. My sister was taken aback when one of them suggested that she hand over her credit card to buy one of the dresses at Betsy Johnson "to save time." Overall, the time management was sort of poor and there was no focus on budget but Beth's suggestions were pretty good. Beth was great! I was (and still am) a fashion idiot and I often feel overwhelmed when I step into a shopping mall. Enter Beth, and she took care of everything for me. She talked to me first to get a clear idea of who I was and my goals, and I felt very confident going forward that she knew what I really wanted. It wasn't her just picking out stuff for me, but she made sure to keep checking in with me about how I felt about it.
