Good clean motel at a reasonable price. Only coffee in AM, but for the price a good deal

We stayed here when my cousin got married across the street (Price Creek Event Center) on Saturday. It's truly right across the street - might be a shorter walk from the hotel to the entrance of the event center than from the parking lot of the event center itself. Room was clean, mini fridge was very helpful, air conditioning worked well. Normal check in is 3pm - I asked if we could get in a little earlier to get ready for the wedding there. Not only was the answer yes, but I got a phone call when the rooms were ready. In all my years booking hotel rooms, can't say I've ever had that happen before, and it was much appreciated so we were confident we'd have plenty of time to get ready. Great service! read more

This is the place to stay in Amana. It is not a Fancy "High End" Motel, but it is Clean, Quiet and very convenient to the town. It has plenty of parking within a few feet of your room. Now the pièce de résistance is a gentleman named Mani. A manager is supposed to attend to the customer, but Mani goes that EXTRA MILE to accommodate you in every way. I stopped in the office for coffee in the morning, and having to carry 3 cups of Coffee it would have been very difficult. Without hesitation, Mani picked up two of the Coffees and carried them to our room. THAT is Service. Whenever we return to Amana, you can bet your bottom dollar we will stay at the Guest House Motel. I have stayed at the lovely Guest House Motel many times and would never consider another when visiting the Amana Colonies. The owners are so gracious and accommodating. The room are spotless, comfortable and very quiet with mini fridge, hairdryer and an extremely comfortable bed. The grounds are beautiful with a large outdoor patio/seating area. Located at the end of town, it is quiet and within walking distance of all the shops and eateries. Manni is beyond kind and helpful and his family is also! I often go out of my way to support small family-owned businesses, but the husband and wife that own this place made me pay for that this time. I was supposed to stay here for a wedding but had to cancel early the day of the wedding because my girlfriend (my date for the wedding) fell ill. When I called to cancel, the husband notified me that they have a 24-hour cancellation policy and that they would have to charge me. The 24-hour cancellation policy is normal, but my experience is that many hotels will cut you some slack if you have a good reason to cancel--rather than a full charge, many places will charge a discounted rate--and I wasn't notified of the policy when I reserved the room. I then spoke with the wife, told her I understood the reason for the policy but explained I really wanted to be there but could not given the circumstances and politely asked if there were any way I could get a discount on the cancellation penalty. She responded rather snidely, "That's the nature of the beast," and then told me she'd give me a refund only if I found someone else to take the room. So, basically, there was nothing she would do for me. What really irritated me, though, is that she called me back a few hours later in the early afternoon and asked, "You didn't by chance decide to come after all, did you?" Irked by her inquiry (I quickly realized what her call meant--she was renting the room to someone else and wanted to double-check I wasn't going to show up), I curtly responded, "No, I told you my girlfriend is seriously ill and can't travel." Despite the fact that she filled the room (the hotel was fully booked so this would have been their only opening), she still fully charged me for the room. Again, I understand it's their policy and the onus was on me, but especially considering the fact that someone else ended up renting the room, it seems egregious that they still refused to budge on the room charge. Add to that the fact that they acted a bit rude when I was very polite and I can only suggest not bothering with these people. If you had a complaint about a room, I wouldn't anticipate they'd be responsive. read more

If you're looking for a no frills place to stay in Amana that's not a bed and breakfast, the Guest House Motel should fit the bill just fine. Their rates are reasonable, and their rooms are clean and comfortable. Every room is equipped with A/C and TV with cable and HBO. The bathroom was functional, and the beds were comfortable. My only complaints were that the room didn't have a clock and our A/C unit wouldn't turn on, nor could we open the windows for some fresh air when it got warm in the room. I don't know if they haven't turned the A/C on for the season or what, but fortunately, we could survive without it. Even though the motel is located on the main road, it was very quiet, and it's within stumbling distance to the Festhalle, in case you're attending an event there. read more

January 2014. This hotel is clean, quiet and simple. I'm happy. The front desk reception was very helpful and nice, when opening up the door to my room I was pleasantly surprised. The hotel is situated in a little community of the Amanas and there is lots to do and see like antique stores, shops with local crafts, cheese/wine shop and local owned resturants in this little community.. Down the road there's a park called Kent park, they've got covered picnic tables, trails to walk and a park ranger station. I'm grateful that I found a nice quaint little place to stay for the night. read more

My boyfriend and I booked a fun weekend in the amanas for our anniversary. This was our first time staying here. We will definitely be Back! Manni is so nice as is all the staff. The rooms are very clean and it's so quiet! Even had a fridg in the room. They have a privacy policy and only clean the room if you request during your stay.. which I love. They are right in main amana .. walking distance to everything. We are already talking about going back. read more

We were up a narrow dark staircase in the sandstone building. The room was clean but that is all I can say about it. The room was so dark we couldn't read and the bathroom was so dark I couldn't see to apply makeup. I really don't know how it could pass the fire codes with the narrow staircase the only way up or down. read more

tried to cancel reservation 34 hours in advance. was told that wasn't possible because the hotel was booked and "we could have rented your room several times over so we will have to charge you." I went to their web site 30 minutes later and could have had my choice of any kind of room they had. obviously they were not booked! obviously, we wont be staying there again. ever! read more

We were there in December 2016 on a blizzardy, cold weekend before Christmas. We were surprised to learn of the new ownership in this past year as we have stayed there several times over the years. Due to the bad weather several folks had cancelled their reservation that weekend but we had a 50th Wedding Anniversary to attend so we toughed it out. We checked in early but our brother and wife had to wait until after our event to check in. It was so cold, that I asked the owner to please turn on the heat in our brother's room so it would be warm when we got back. He did so! We were so pleased. The rooms were updated, fresh, clean and we had all we could want for such a cold, wintery weekend. Thanks to the new owners...we will be back! read more

We have been staying in this little motel for over 30 years. The location is ideal for visiting the Amana Colonies. This has been the best stay we've ever had! The new owners are very welcoming and accommodating. The motel has never been cleaner! They have added mini fridges and hairdryers to the rooms. I made our reservations for Friday night for convenience for Oktoberfest. When making the reservation, made sure to double and triple-check that it was for the 3rd of October on Friday because I know how packed this festival can get. I made this reservation MONTHS in advance and Cindy assured me that we had the correct date and that Saturday was completely packed but I could get on a waiting list to possibly stay Saturday as well but was unlikely that we would be able to get that date. Cindy called me just now on Thursday the 2nd, and said that we were booked for tonight - seriously, a Thursday night when Oktoberfest starts on Friday afternoon and ONLY Thursday night??? Of course they don't use electronic reservations so I had to take this Cindy for her word even though I remember the exact conversation months ago, because I was so excited we were able to get in at least on Friday. To top it off she said she was CHARGING me for tonight even though I insisted it was her fault for not making it for the correct date - after yelling back and forth and admittedly my cursing at her and with her insisting I was wrong, she hung up. "New Management" it says on their web site - proving "new" is not always improved and very much so in this place. My advice - make sure you get them to mail you the reservation so you have proof to back up what you remember instead of being at these people's mercy who still use pen and paper for their reservations. I will update to let everyone know if Cindy charges me for a night I didn't make reservations for and didn't stay at this place of insanity! Update - yep - charged us for it - will be going through dispute process I guess - buyer beware of this "SCAM-HOUSE", changing your reservation so they can try to charge you for a reservation you didn't make. Again, if you feel you have to stay here, make sure you demand proof of your reservation sent to you through the mail well before your stay. I know the economy is bad, but for them to stoop this low to someone who lives locally! Good luck to anyone brave enough to try to stay here! read more

My mother and I visited the Amana colonies from June 6 - 9th. We stayed here and it was wonderful. The motel is in a very convenient location in the middle of Amana. The staff was extremely nice and attentive. They keep the motel in good repair and the rooms are comfortable and clean. They are very knowledgeable about the area including giving recommendations about places to eat and visit. We highly recommend it! read more

We were hoping for a quaint, charming place and were disappointed. The rooms (we rented 2) were dingy, tired looking, with very old stiff mattresses and tattered quilts, and a toilet that had to be "hand flushed" by putting your hand into the tank on top EVERY time! We have been regular guests of this establishment, for more than 25 years. Oktoberfest is a yearly tradition for our family, and we have come for other events as well. The motel had been showing its age in recent years. HOWEVER, the NEW MANAGEMENT is trying really hard to reverse that, and they've begun the refreshment and updating process. We are SO PLEASED with the improvements we've seen, and the hospitality we experienced. Our short stay over Father's Day weekend was one of the most pleasant we've had. Our faith is renewed!
