Disclaimer: I hope my experience was exceptional, but if it's any general indication, the following needs to be heard. Before I get started, I've ridden bikes all my life, know quite well how they work, and have a sturdy, well-maintained, and high quality bike.
This shop repaired my rear break line, which broke again after 3 months. Whether this was due to some exceptional event or the quality of their work I cannot say for sure, but what I can say is that they subsequently refused to believe they repaired it (since I had brought it in another time since, assuming I was ignorant of the different parts of a bike), and furthermore proceeded to argue that it is totally normal for such a cable to break after such a short period (it is not, they should last for years, decades if the bike is treated and stowed well). What's worse is that I have my doubts on the quality of their work from a separate instance where among other thing they realigned by back wheel (chain-length etc.). Very shortly after, a supposed to be non-load-bearing chain-tensioning bolt broke, followed by my rear wheel having freedom to move about in the direction perpendicular to rotation. Firstly, these bolts should typically not break (and again, when asked, they claimed this is totally normal and can happen at *any* time), and secondly, even if they do, the rear wheel should be securely in place through the main bolts, only possibly losing alignment slowly over time. This makes me believe they simply did not tighten the rear bolts appropriately, thereby putting a load on the bolt, making it break, and resulting in a fiddly wheel. read more
