I enjoy supporting the smaller theater venues mainly for the more intimate environment you get to experience. The Guild is pretty small (not 99 seat small) and well maintained. Seating is comfortable but tight in the legroom category. The staff was nice and helpful. Parking is ample with a small lot next to the theater and also street parking. And, there is a coffee shop right next door in case you want to grab something before or after a show. We came to see the Jury Experience which was interesting, engaging and thought provoking. My only criticism would be the sound system was not great for this performance. Not sure how musical events would fair. Still it was an enjoyable evening in a nicely maintained venue. read more

I went here on July 15 to see Beauty of Japan which I recommend seeing if you can, they were all very passionate about their performance. Also, the theater was nice (only complaint was that there was no AC on a hot evening but I'm not sure if they don't have AC or chose not to use it...). Comfortable seating and easy to see the stage. read more

As my first experience to see a motocross movie In northern Cali I was invited to see the exclusive premier of Moto8 at the Guild Theatre. This theatre is a classic! The Guild was refurbished back to its original condition several years ago and it is a hidden gem. The Guild had a cozy community feel to it as its big but not too big....and there's not a "bad" seat in the house. I was invited to sit in the production booth with the movie producer and director. This booth is located on the second level at the top row and happens to have a vast "birds eye view" of the entire house and center stage. The producer introduced himself to the audience and thanked all his drivers and team members who supported the filming and production of Moto8. I felt like a member of sacto's diverse moto counter culture while I watched this show. The music was excellent, the cinematography was sublime, and the skillful yet rogue riders were fascinating to watch. read more

The fabulous Guild Theater deserves all the admiration that is usually directed towards the Tower and the Crest. While overshadowed, this tiny gem regularly shows its potential as a grand movie house through collaborations with festivals, independent filmmakers and Movies on a Big Screen. I watched the latest installment of the Found Footage Festival here and enjoyed it immensely, not to mention laughed my ass off. Everything here is tiny, like a miniaturized version of its big screen brothers. I found it to be cleaner in general than the Crest or the Tower, but I'm comparing two theaters that are operational seven days a week with a "boutique" theater that is open on select occasions. I'd be curious to know whether the Guild is equipped for film projection, as that would truly complete the movie-going experience. I think the Guild could do more to capitalize on its potential, but for now I'm just happy that it's open and offering yet another great Sacramento movie experience. You have to admire independent theaters: they operate on small budgets and a lot of love from folks whose passion for cinema extends far beyond the blockbuster dreck Hollywood pushes out. read more

Even though I have not been here recently, I still feel compelled to write a review! I came here when I was 17 to see a local art production/performance art. It was a complete disaster and most people were leaving during the performance. It had something to do with people reenacting a BBQ and having random conversations. Anyway, I ended up talking to Art, a retired police officer who owned the place. I asked if he did exhibitions, which he did, and I asked if I could show my photos there. I had a b/w photo exhibition here during the summer and spent time matting, framing and hanging my photos. They were mainly street scenes with a few pseudo-surrealist pieces thrown in. I didn't sell a single photo, but it was so much fun for me and a good experience. Thanks Art for giving this crazy teenager a chance. read more

This is a cute little theatre where I don't think there will be a bad seat in the house. I'm not going to review the production that I saw (which was great) because I think this is a venue where various people can come rent it out and perform. I liked the theatre. The seats were pretty comfortable. The bathrooms were clean. The air conditioning was really comfortable. The sound was good for the play and I could see everything from my seat. It was easy to find AND find parking too. I hope to come back for more shows! This theatre is a gem! read more

Come on, Guild Theater! You could be so awesome. You're in a great area - surrounded by a wonderful bookstore, coffee shop, art gallery and the occasional farmers' market. It's like the cultural mecca of Oak Park. But, you see, I have no idea what you do. I've been to your website. It sucks. I just learned that Movies On A Big Screen (which is fantastic) isn't your product. Start showing more movies or shows or SOMETHING! It's a beautiful building. It even has a parking lot next door for added convenience. Reach out to the community. Don't be so insular and you will be a cultural institution in this city. You have MOBS. A+! Now, get more things and be open every night of the week. I want to love you, but I am simply confused by you. Yes, I understand that I can rent you for my event, but you're a theater. What shows do you offer? Why aren't you open every night of the week? I have enjoyed every experience at The Guild. I hosted some film screenings there and it was pretty much perfect. The cost of rental was, although high, comparable to other options. At that time, The Guild was totally isolated, surrounded by closed or shuttered businesses. Today, however, the block is anchored by the very awesome Old Soul coffeehouse. I also enjoy the weekly 'Movies on a Big Screen' events. They feature wonderful films at a great price and very often, the filmmakers are present for q and a. Of the theaters in Sacramento, the Guild is really up there as one of the most comfortable, beautiful, easily accessible places to screen a film. I've seen a couple of movies here (through Movies on a Big Screen and special events) and it's really an underutilized local treasure. Check it out! read more

Guild theatre is such a winner for Sacramento, and especially Oak Park. I went here for Movies on a Big Screen's presentation of Metropolis and was totally happy with everything. The theatre is in great shape, it's really beautiful, and everything just feels right. We sat in the balcony and found it to be cozy and comfortable. I don't think Movies on a Big Screen is directly affiliated with the theatre, but their service was phenomenal too. They only took cash and we were three dollars short and the local ATMs were broken. They let us in on the honor system. I would have no problem returning to the guild to catch a show. Anytime. read more

I had never heard about this place until I walked past it one day while heading to Old Soul Co. I think the brick building is beautiful. I got a chance to watch a movie here during the Sacramento Food Film Festival. In the lobby there is a small ticket booth and concession stand. The movie theater seats 200, including balcony seating. I wish they would show more movies here, so I could get a chance to come back. read more

Nice venue with assortment of film festivals, live shows, and corporate events. Venue is for hire, they don't produce their own shows, which is why there aren't shows every day. Also it is managed by a church so is somewhat conservative. Guild Theatre is a professional venue with professional equipment and assorted facilities and procedures, but they don't automatically supply event staff and techs with rental fees. So it's not recommended for beginner promoters or event planners, unless they hire Guild staff and techs who know how the venue and equipment works and all the various venue security, public safety, management, child safety, and clean up procedures. read more

A pleasant, relatively inexpensive and nice staff. The video and audio quality is fine, but the screens are small.

Worth a trip, depending on what's showing. If it's too hot in the balcony, the operator will gladly turn the heat down.
