    The island

Aka Guilligan's Island, aka Gilligan's Island. I can't figure out if there's supposed to be a relation to the TV show or not. Head to the southern side of Puerto Rico--where plenty of islands and beaches await you! To get to the island's cay, you have to jump on a boat from the mainland. This process is a little peculiar. We got there earlier than our anticipated time; and even though it was late morning and sunny, it wasn't that busy. But soon people started filing in, paying their $8 for passage. They have outdoor tables and a restaurant if you're feeling a little munchy. The weird part is that though we were supposed to go on x boat at x time, they skipped us (?) and my gut told me it was because they wanted us to spend money on food there. We declined and got on the next boat. It's a short ride over. There's a long dock that greets you as the boat's docked. The cay is covered in Mangrove trees and their roots cover the entire cay. There are a limited number of spots to set up your towels and blankets and are covered by the trees--no beach to play VB. When you sit in the warm water, with gentle currents that can move you a little if you're not sitting, all that is forgotten. Drinks in-hand, we took in the intense sun. Later, I walked around the tiny cay, ducking my head under tree branches and looking to see if there was a sandy beach (there isn't) since the cay's sand is medium-grain white coral. The outhouse was horrifying but that's to be expected. One person excused themselves to the far part of the cay to take care of business and if only my bladder would allow me to make wee where other people were present, I would have done the same thing. When we got back to the mainland and our car, we saw that cars had blocked a bunch of us in! It's like the sun got to their heads. Luckily, one person pulled out ahead of us, but another person tried to take their place! I literally had to stand in their way to prevent them from parking, as the universal word/motion for "No" i.e. saying no and shaking head frantically was not working haha Although not my ideal kind of beach, we had a great time :)

    Waiting for the ferry.

Very secluded island that only locals would know. Not a bad drive and parking available. Follow the directions and don't be alarmed by the narrow road that leads to the ferry. Take the next right after the resort and spa entrance. Ferry: $8 or smth leaves in the mornings early like 8am to 10am. Every 20min. Plan your trip during the week; weekends get crowded. Bring your grill! Yesssss grill ))) you can actually grill on the island. Bring all the other things for grilling of course: food and charcoal, etc. Ready to do some snorkeling? Bring your fins and goggles and you will have real fun! Great for kids too; water is very shallow and our 4y old loved it. This island does have some sandy parts but for the most part be prepared to settle in the shade o the trees. Lovely too you do t have to worry about umbrellas. Kayaking available for additional charge which is about $15-20. Not sure. They also have a little cafe which serves cute pinas and try their fish of the day. Authentic taste and oh so yummy! Oh and by the way not sure why this island is not on yelp yet, so lets keep it on a DL and you can thank me later ))))

The customer service was awful. Lady was super rude. The island itself is very small but very beautiful. Bring your snorkel gear. Cute little fish swimming around the mangroves. Note: Last boat leaves Guilligan's Island at 5:00pm. Boat from Guanica to Guilligan's leaves every hour on the dot. If you are not standing there with your ticket in hand when boat is ready to go, you will be left and will have to wait an hour until the boat leaves again. You can bring one small cooler with you. There aren't any restaurants or shops on the island but when you buy your boat tickets, you can also pay for a food delivery to be made to you.

    Paradise!

Guilligan's Island was such a unique and beautiful spot. Taking the 5 minute boat ride was very easy and knowing that you can come back on the hour, any hour was very convenient. Bring your snorkel gear, food & drinks and spend the day on the island. We were there on a Wednesday and it was very busy with locals swimming and having a great time. Swim or pull yourself up the mangroves and at the end you will float down the natural lazy river. Lots of fish and marine life to see. A truly one of a kind area!

A view of Puerto Rico from the island! You can see the waters of Guilligan Island, shallow and light blue!

Very fun and affordable trip! Good place to relax and spend a few hours in. Explore the clear, shallow waters, jump off some trees, and relax in the warm water. Tickets were $10 round trip. Very fun but make sure you bring a cooler for snacks and drinks, chairs, and whatever you'll need while being on the island. There are no stores on the island. Be prepared and have a blast! A very nice experience

Love the cay...love that is a hidden secret. The service through the Ferry can improve a little, but still it's Guanica's lovely gem. Now that we are also hosting I have come to appreciate it even more. Rosanna Alamo/ Dry Forest B&B

Tickets for the ferry can be purchased at the San Jacinto Restaurant. Tickets are $7.32 if you take a cooler or BBQ they charge an extra $5.32. Ferry runs on the hour and last one is at 5pm. It's open 7 days a week. Lady in the restaurant is not very friendly but the beauty of the island outweighs the experience in the restaurant. Didn't tried the food it looked greasy so I suggest you pack up water and snacks. The road that leads to the restaurant/ferry dock has good signs. Awesome day trip in PR!!

Always a MUST GO SPOT when vacationing in PR. Get there early to get a good spot as the place gets crowded fast. Calm waters... Clear waters and mangroves surrounding this beautiful secluded island. Food can be bought before you enter the ferry and delivered to you while in your moment in paradise. Yes you can take coolers and a small grill but they charge extra for this, about $4. Great family trip highly recommended !!!

Our first full day in the area, we drove over here to see the hidden beauty. There's a lake located in the middle and there are plenty of paths to take, where you can see the iguanas or find a secluded spot on the pristine beach with crystal blue water. On some days you have to pay $2 per person. The day we visited, we didn't have to pay. You drive very slowly through the park and find a nice spot to leave your car and then just walk through any of the paths, to the beautiful beach. I would suggest finding a shaded spot for the car so that you're not entering an oven after a long day in the sun. One morning I went for a run down here. Families start arriving pretty early, in order to grab choice spots. There are no vendors on this side, so you should bring your own coolers and snacks. It's a nice place to be away from the water toys and loud beach goers, that you would find on the other side. We brought babes down here with her floaty and she had a blast in the blue water. They start closing up around 430p so make sure you have your stuff together and you're ready to leave. They make a last drive through to ensure everyone has left and then they lock the gates. Definitely a must visit.

Launching from La Guancha, the dock was easy to get to and there was plenty of parking. For $28 roundtrip (as of 12/16), it was a value excursion! On this uninhabited island, there are no stores or vendors. Bring your own food, drinks, and beach comfort items. The ferry does sell drinks, some alcoholic beverages, snacks, and food (hot dogs and kebabs). You have to preorder the food in the morning and they'll cook it up fresh while you go play on the island, serving lunch at noon. For $60, you get roundtrip transportation and twelve meal and drink tickets (two tickets for food items, one ticket for snacks and drinks, including beer). The prices onboard are actually quite reasonable, so the meal tickets really aren't that much of a deal, in my opinion. You can also rent beach chairs and snorkeling gear from Island Ventures at very affordable prices. On this gorgeous island, we wanted to do it all! We wanted to hike to the lighthouse, explore the caves, play at the beach...everything! But we somehow couldn't get away from the water. We played at the beach, snorkeled, and then beached again. Snorkeling gear was only ten bucks to rent (as of 12/16), but because I can't swim and needed a life vest, I paid another two bucks for the whole shebang. While we were close to coral along the shore, it wasn't the best snorkeling environment. Not a lot of wildlife around all those human types that lined the shores. There were many fish under the dock, so we carefully explored that area. The water is a brilliant turquoise, but not very clear (it wasn't dirty, it just wasn't crystal clear), so it was often times difficult to see, even from a short distance away. Ferry leaves La Guancha at 8:30 AM on the dot, so get there early to check in and grab a seat. The forty-five minute ride each way is pretty smooth. Ferry leaves the island at 3:30 PM. That's almost six hours on the island! For us, it was just right. A perfect day on a gorgeous island with an attentive ferry staff.

The Island itself is 5 + stars, but one of the only ways to get there (Island Ventures) knocks it down a star. Island Venture Ferry Basics -- $25 per person which includes two drink tickets (can be claimed for Medalla Light, Coors Light, or soda). You can also upgrade your ticket for $10 and get 15 drink tickets (!) --Boat leaves from La Guancha at 8:30am (but you must arrive by 7:40am) and from the island at 3:30 (boards at 3). Ride takes about 45 minutes and has a lower level with shade. --They also sell hot dogs and kebabs and rent umbrellas on the ship and the ship stays docked there so you can continue to purchase drinks/food while you're on the island. Caveats: --The company holds weird hours and are hard to get a hold of, especially if you don't speak Spanish. --Their online booking system can be glitchy, my friend's reservation got mixed up for the wrong day. --Spots book up fast, book early! --They charge a fee for coolers (although we had soft/bag style coolers and were not charged). --We shared the boat with a school trip...so yea, there's that. ISLAND --AWESOME. --Walk up (down? into?) the cave. --Walk up to the lighthouse for some AMAZING views (30 minutes, bring water, we did it in flip flops but prob shouldn't have). --Love life on the beach. Watch out for jellyfish though! --Snorkel! (Not the best I've seen, but still cool). --Admire cacti and wildlife (hermit crabs and lizards everywhere!) During some seasons there are apparently sea turtles nesting! --Pack a picnic and enjoy it on the picnic tables! They also have compost "bathrooms." They smell and don't have soap, but there's TP! --Avoid the small beach to the left of the dock (if you're facing the island)-loaded with bugs! --Perfect day trip and one of my favorite activities from our Puerto Rico trip! ABSOLUTELY RECOMMEND. Must go!
