Our son has been coming to Guitar Center for a little over a year for lessons. Our son has been taking drum lessons with Sierra, and she is phenomenal, knowledgeable, professional, and we've seen incredible improvement in his playing. Jack has also been a huge help, stepping in with a great attitude to fix issues that weren't even his fault. Unfortunately, the current lessons lead, Adrian, has been a nightmare to deal with. He has consistently given us the runaround, hanging up on me, lying not only about his schedule but the schedule he set out for our son, and showing a total lack of integrity. Most recently, despite multiple confirmations for an hour-long lesson, he overbooked the slot and only gave our son 30 minutes, then tried to blame his coworkers for the "miscommunication." It is exhausting having to double-check everything because we can't trust the person in charge of scheduling. If it weren't for the amazing teaching staff and the help we've received from people like Jack, Mark and John we would have pulled our son out months ago. Overall the staff and customer service at this store has been excellent. We've only had issues with this one lessons lead with his constant lying and lack of customer service. I could turn this review into a small manifesto, but I'll keep it short. This was the second Guitar Center I visited today. The first one wouldn't even get a guitar down for me, so, frustrated, I drove here. I had a budget and was ready to buy a Telecaster. Jack talked me through my options and gave me an extensive breakdown of the Fender line. I explained what I was looking for, and it came down to a $1,400 used Ultra Tele or a $700 Player II. Jack gave me the pros and cons of both, and I decided on the Player II. I freaking love this guitar. It's exactly what I wanted, and it's the second guitar I've bought from this location this year. if I could give Negative 5 Stars I would. I brought in a Re-string and was given a price it would cost with no tax only to show up and be charged $10.00 more without reason. After calling corporate and explaining my grief, I was promised a call from the District manager within 2 days which never happened. I had to leave my Instume there and finally picked it up only to have to pay the inflated price instead of the promised price. These assholes also purposely moved the floating bridge and loosened what they tightened. Fuck this Guitar Center and their shit service. Never Again. Save yourself some time and shop off Reverb or Musicians friend. This place is awful. Hubby has been wanting a new guitar and finally decided on one. He has some new pedals that he wanted to trade in and use towards the purchase. He doesn't need the money but is not using the pedals for he has so many. We were here a few months ago and brought the pedals in. We were greeted by Kyler and told yes they take in trade ins and he would be right with us. We walked around and wasted almost two hours just to be told several times that he has to help customers first then he will get to us.. So what are we? Not customers? We left. Fast forward to today and thought we would go back give it another try since hubby decided on a new guitar. Maybe it was an off day last time we were here? Well, Same song and dance and again Kyler at the front desk. He be right with us with a quote. It gave my husband time to try out the guitar. Kyler walked up and said he would have an answer in 15 min. Again waited and gave him 45 minutes and still nothing." He's helping other customers." These people need to learn about customer service. Just because were trading in an item doesn't qualify us as customers? Even though we are using it towards a purchase of a guitar? I understand they have to test out the item but to tell us that they have to take care of other customers first? They act like your second rate and ignore you like your bothering them after wasting time in their store. We finally took our items and left. We will not return. However it did work out in our favor went home and purchased a New Les Paul special for less off Reverb and free shipping! Score! read more

Just really bad customer service. Waited in line for like 10 minutes before being sent to another line and nobody showing up. I wasn't the only one frustrated. If you don't have anybody to help customers at least just tell people so they don't sit there wasting their time. The worst is when you see employees just hanging out and walking around. When I got there two employees saw me come in, no greeting no can I help you nothing just eye contact, they just kept chatting away with their personal conversation. I came in seriously considering buying a Fender Vintage II Telecaster. I had tried this guitar on a previous visit and wanted to test it out one more time before making my decision. While unlocking it, a staff member told me that next time I'd have to pay to have it unlocked simply because I had played it before. This is completely against Guitar Center's own policy, which encourages customers to try instruments before buying. Everything was fine until this girl named Lyn? was giving attitude about an issue I had with my purchase. I had this bass amp that I got and returned (faulty wiring or something), and then I got it exchanged. When I went home and opened it one of the knobs was off centered so I took it off to check it and this metal part was just misaligned. I have OCD so I personally just couldn't stand it. So I went to get it exchanged again because all I did was open the box; everything else was untouched and had no problems. She came up to us and asked if it wasn't working again, and we explained the situation (left out the OCD part btw). The entire time it just felt like she was extremely bothered and impatient and had this attitude of "this is so stupid" vibe. She then said she herself will go get a new one and then open it and check the knobs herself, then immediately walked away to do so. I personally think that was wrong on her part because 1. I paid for the amp therefore I wanted to check it myself (again the OCD was the big reason why) and 2. She should've asked first if that was okay with us since it's technically our property. But she didn't even give us a chance to say anything. On top of that, after everything was settled, she asked one of her coworkers to put away the amp for her in the back because she "didn't want to do it." I felt that was an unnecessary comment to make in front of us. When I got home and opened it not only one of the knobs was off centered once again, but she left scratch marks trying to pull the knob off. Now I have to exchange it again because I personally cannot stand this entire thing. I know this is a pretty personal issue but I'm just complaining about HOW she handled the situation in regards to her attitude and treatment of something I paid for. read more

Matt is absolutely fantastic. Came in with an old banjo for my boyfriends birthday with some tuning machine issues. I was worried it wouldn't be fixable (especially considering I am a procrastinator and my BFs birthday was the next day). He spent so much time and effort looking through hundreds of little screws and pieces until it was all good to go. I like this place... a lot! When I wanted to give my husband a unique birthday gift? I got a Yamaha ukulele here! I got a salesperson, a man, in this instance, to help me with his suggestions on what would be a good one, in my price range. Together we decided on the one I selected. So, on my husbands birthday, I asked him to close his eyes, and placed it in his arms. He loved it! Being lovers of musical instruments we have frequented this and other Guitar Centers, many times. We have always enjoyed browsing and purchasing. We have never been disappointed with any of our purchases. Employees have always been knowledgable and polite. And... dare I say, hip and cool! My only complaint is that often, the big guys, and this is one, tend to squeeze out the little guy. We need the little guy as that's what makes towns and cities unique and charming. Small business is what makes our country thrive. So, I do have that one complaint. It's a bummer to see the little guy, no matter what business it is, bulldozed over....so to speak. read more

Bought a set of strings that were defective. High E string completely bent and unusable. Tried to return it to the store, even within 30 days (45 day return policy according to their site). Guess what? "We don't accept any returns for opened items." My bad. Kind of needed to open the packaging to see that you sold me a defective product. Never buying strings from here again. $10 down the drain. Thanks for nothing. Trust me, if I had extra money lying around I'd let it go. But as someone who's been struggling financially, every dollar really counts. Don't need it wasted over a busted set of strings that you refuse to replace, refund, or even look at. The technician Matt did unauthorized work on my guitar. There was never any agreement to the work he suggested. When I went to pick up the guitar, I was told that the work was already done, work that I did not authorize. They told me I could not pick up the guitar as the technician would have to come back and return the guitar to it's previous state. The manager Robert came over and basically dismissed the issue and failed to solve it at the time. I was never even asked to pay for the repairs. I was just told I couldn't pick it up. Meaning they knowingly did repair work on my guitar without my consent. If they had consent for the repairs, they would've just handed me the repair bill, instead they told me to just leave and wait to have the repair reverted. Dishonest business practice and a huge waste of time. read more

They did not have the item I wanted in stock. The salesperson did not even know what it was (a frame drum). With this why 5 stars? The salesperson was absolutely wonderful. He made me feel heard and taken care if. He looked it up on the computer so he cursed what it was, he showed genuine interest and we looked at the guitar center website to find what I wanted. I've been in the biz and with GC for at least 25 years and have probably spent 100k over the year at GC. Extremely rude customer service. Was treated as if they didn't want to help me at all. Was asking for help with a product advertised and the sales guy obviously didn't want to help at all. Laughed and shrugged his shoulders as if to say leave me alone and walked away and started helping another customer that looked more like him if you know what I mean. It was horrible. The whole store is impressive, guitars and other musical instruments all over the building. But the staff are friendly and helpful . I have a vintage guitar that needs some attention, and Matt, the repair specialist, impressed me with his knowledge and helpfulness. I bought some gifts of music for a young lady who is learning guitar and piano. Even the gentleman at the checkout made me smile as he helped us. I'll be back and hope to do some more shopping. There is no need for guitar center anymore. The staff is unable or unwilling to bring anything new into the local store even if it is available on guitar centers website. They said I could pay for the guitar and they would get it shipped to the store. I said I could have it shipped to my house directly so why would I send it to the store. If they don't have the guitar or part or strings you can order from a competitor or amazon. Some companies just don't understand they are there for customers not the other way around. When he informed me that a return of a guitar and exchanging it for a less expensive guitar would result in a store credit only, because it was a PayPal transaction, I said I just wanted my money back. He that proceeded to lecture me and showed no respect to me as a customer. Too bad because the other employees that work there were very helpful with great customer service. Brandon needs to learn from his fellow employees how to treat customers. Hopefully he will be replaced by a better Store Manager soon! read more

I never write reviews but honestly this one deserves one. I signed up two of my daughters for guitar lessons in January, by the end of February i canceled one of there subscriptions the day the billing cycle renews. When i called to cancel i spoke with Donald (according to everyone I've spoken to that works there, no one has access to make any changes only him. If he's in a meeting or off the clock, good luck getting any changes made) So, he canceled my daughters subscription & told me that since i had been charged already he would roll over my daughters subscription that had already been charged from my 1st to my 2nd daughter & he would send me a e-mail with all the paper work. I never received that e-mail or anything from him & was charged again the following month. I called again to speak with Donald to cancel my 2nd daughters subscription then mentioned what he told me about the roll over month & he said he never said that he would roll over those dates (pretty much calling me a liar) & charged me again for the following month that i had just called to cancel for. $250 down the drain. Aside from those charges, classes are not a full 30 min & the teacher runs out of things to teach. I recommended a friend who took his daughter & only lasted 2 months for that same reason. At 53, I've been buying gear since I started making money at 20 years old. Guitar Center has always been my go-to place for all things musical...be it synths, guitars, pedals, cables, and yes even software back in the old days when we bought a box with CDs or diskettes. Now you can just subscribe or buy your favorite software or DAW. What I've found is that a lot of times the employees at the bigger GCs are often busy, or can be a little aloof....or too cool for school. There's something in the water in Murrieta though because almost every employee to the man or woman is just so nice here. Helpful, knowledgeable, good-humored. It's all highly appreciated. Maybe it's easier with less foot traffic than Sherman Oaks or the GC in L.A. Those places were madhouses! That said, it's a good-sized GC and they have plenty of stock, especially for common items such as guitar stands, cables, guitars, basses, drums, keys, you name it. I was able to plug in a Stingray by Music Man short scale bass and play a bit. I fell in love and bought one. At the very busy GCs I'm far less inclined to actually play a guitar or bass through an amp. Too many pros walking around, and it's hard to hear over the din. However, if you want some personal attention just play Stairway and sure enough an employee's hand is on your strings. JK! "We don't do that here." LOL. I ended up having to return the bass because I needed the white one after seeing it online. However, I ended up spending almost as much on other gear anyway as I bought a Beat Buddy, mic stand, and guitar stand from GC a couple days later. If this GC had the white bass I wanted I would have kept the sale with them. I'm happy to give GC my business because I want them to stick around despite the online giants in this space. That personal touch makes all the difference, and I think GC realizes that. Plus, who doesn't love getting your gear the SAME DAY? Also, GC keeps this shop tidy. Everything is well-presented with minimal clutter. I definitely appreciate that too. Lots of good things to say about Murrieta's Guitar Center. Keep up the great work, everyone! read more

I have made several purchases at this Guitar Center location (drum/guitar/studio gear). Henry (one of the managers) was helping me find something a little different. I spend a lot of time working in my garage. So I was looking for high end sound and noticed they carried used monitors, pa's, etc. I purchased a pair of 8" studio monitors. The first one sounded great but unfortunately the second one would power on but no audio. I took it back and replaced with a similar JBL which also had issues. Henry genuinely seemed to care about me being happy throughout the entire process! He made it possible to issue a credit, find a matching speaker at another California location and have it shipped to me directly. I couldn't be happier! One last comment. I overheard a conversation in the store about employees hours being cut due to slow sales. Each time I was in there customers were playing guitars, drums, etc. As I am about to sign my grandson up for guitar lessons there I would hate to see us lose stores like this. All the gear I have bought there has been perfect. I was buying used for the first time. So I will say ask for them to test before you buy (which they are happy to do). Such a mixed bag for reviews here and at first I was hesitant in coming at all. We signed up for lessons and Mayumi (hope that's not too far off) was great and was very quick and through in the process of answering questions and getting signed up. The sales department is decent with a couple of shining stars, Nik G was a huge help and stuck with me for a long time making sure that the two sets of a guitar and bass with amps and all the gear were sorted and purchased. I walked in to sell 4 guitars: Kurt Cobain NOS Jaguar 73 reissue OTM Comp Mustang (mint) 69 LPB Comp Mustang reissue (mint) Epiphone ET-270 (great condition) Ibanez SR-250 bass, soda burst (mint) Various EHX pedals some which were never opened or used and a few other things. However, none of that mattered because the store owner, brandon, approached me and told me, "I'm going to low ball the shit out of you," without even looking at my stuff. This dude has a bad attitude and I was even surprised to heat him say he doesn't play any instrument or dj stuff so I'm like, how are you supposed to know what I even have here???
