Orangeriet, Boule & Bistro - Quirky and cool interior decor with the open kitchen in the background

Surprisingly interesting and quirky cool. The OB&B is located in the old Kungspassagen, a…read morepreviously old corridor from the central bus stop to the city pedestrian zone that housed Systembolaget and a variety of small shops. Now it's this huge place with lots of tables, open bar, open kitchen, and several lanes for boule playing. The interior is primarily industrial with concrete floors and dark walls, but makes it really quirky with lots of plants that messes with my mind and makes me think of something more tropical. Also lots of different lights hanging from the ceiling. We were a large group of people and all the food had been pre-ordered so I was in no position to choose any of my meals. Me and a colleague went to the bar and ordered a glass of sparkling wine, after all, who says you can't enjoy bubbles on a Monday? For starter we were served a cep mushroom soup with 63 degrees tempered egg and brioche mushrooms. It was warm, rich, creamy, and utterly delicious. And the glass of cava brut was a great companion to this tasty dish. The main course was however something spectacular. Monkfish cheek served with red wine jus, smoked pork, mushrooms, bitter fried onion, and pommes purée. Does it sound rich? It was! Does it sound amazing? It was! Monkfish is, as you might know, a really meaty fish, yet it was still moist and cooked to perfection. To pair a gorgeous fish with such rich and powering ingredients like red wine jus, smoked pork, bitter onion etc sounds almost a bit mad - which is why I was absolutely floored by this dish. It worked absolutely perfect! Everything was in complete harmony, so well-balanced, and I was constantly surprised by every single bite. To this amazing food we were served an ecological Côtes de Rhône from Louis Bernard that with flavors of dark chocolate, dried fruit and medium oak. A really good pairing with the food. The dessert came in the form of a passion fruit crème brûlée that, if you so put it, was the nail in the coffin of an excellent meal! I must say that OB&B, food-wise, truly exceeded every form of expectation I had. The service and attentiveness of staff is what I'd call standard, but I'm without a shadow of a doubt a fan of this place and I'll be more than happy to come back and spend some money here for another excellent meal like the one I recently experienced!
