It's snowbird season. I got an answer on the phone promptly, and they estimated a 1-hour wait. I've had a nasty cold/cough for a week, so that's nothing! If I could possibly give ZERO stars, I would. Never even got to see the doctor. Made an appt 3 weeks in advance as a new patient. Given a day and time. Took time off work. Showed up only to be told my appt was CANCELLED!!! I was told that the doctor was not taking new patients. (Something that would have been helpful to know when I made the appt!). Apparently the doctor decided he wasn't seeing new patients and asked that I be scheduled with another physician in the group. NO PHONE CALL! Then I am told verbatim, "maybe in your mind, you thought you had an appointment, but it wasn't actually scheduled." Ummm....excuse me??? In my head???? I've worked in the medical field over 20 years and if I ever told a patient it was all in their mind, I'd lose my job. Sad, because the doctor I scheduled with has good reviews himself. I never thought that I would have to visit an urgent care center while in Florida. I found these folks and set up the appointment online. They had me in and out of the office in two hours which is actually incredible! The receptionist, nurse, and physicians assistant were all very friendly and understanding during my visit. I couldn't have asked for better help, and it is far far better than having to go to the ER! They resolved my concern perfectly. read more

I do not believe anyone at a doctors office should knock the covid vaccine but they knocked the vaccine and would not get it. If you don't like it don't disparage it to others. Dr. Keith Johnson has been my primary since he and I both arrived in Venice, over 22 years ago. He is by far the BEST diagnostician in Sarasota County and perhaps even Florida. Had to get Aetna health care to call GCMG in order to get my medical records. Within an hour I was finally emailed my medical records.I had questions about my records and was told to call their office manager and I did. After 3 days of waiting and hearing that she was in meetings, I asked for Aetna to help me again. This time it was a 3 way call where I once again asked for a call. Finally she called. I asked her a simple question and she went silent. I asked about something that was not in the medical record. I asked why and she went silent.Then I started reading to her the information that I had that were not in my record and should be. She then said she would have to end the call because the conversation has going no where. Then she hung up on me. I still have no answer to my question. Now I've been referred to a another office manger and am waiting for a call back Any suggestions about what to do when a medical office is not comfortable about discussing my medical records? read more

Gulf Coast Medical Group in Venice is just the worst. After having to change Primary Doctor because the one I was seeing left, it took me 6 months to get an appointment to establish myself. For my annual, I was seen by a Nurse Practitioner. That was alright. However, when I came down with a terrible sinus infection and cough, I called for an appointment and was told go to urgent care no appointments were available. Went to urgent care and paid much more than if I was seeing the doctor at GCMG. I didn't get better. After 4 days called for another appointment to please see a doctor and was told no appointments available and to again go to urgent care. I said that someone could die before getting an appointment at which time I recieved a phone call from a nurse that berated me as if I was 5 years old. They gave me an appointment for 5 days later at which point I told them I don't need to see a doctor in 5 days but today when I called in dire need. They are incompetent and don't much care for their patients except for routine check ups where they don't have much to do. Never again. read more

The front desk is rude. The MD I saw on 2 occassions, I did not feel listened or addressed my concerns. When a MD says I am not the right doctor for you, beware. A patient does have a choice, and a doctor should respect that, not chastise you for your choice. It is called working together, not my way or no way. read more

I have used them on numerous occasions after regular hours. They are the best, always felt listened too and promptly treated. If you don't have a medical plan they take, it will be pay in advance, but the price they charge is nowhere near what a hospital emergency visit would be. read more

Welcome to corporate doctoring at it's "unfinest". We have been wintering in Venice for ten years and have gone to the E. Venice Ave. location for annual physicals and occasional sick visits during those ten years. Physicians come and go in this Medical Group, so you need to change your primary physician routinely. They have started a service that allows you to make appointments online. We had flu symptoms and made an online appointment for the following day. The morning of the appointment, we received a call from them saying that the doctor we chose was not available, that the online calendar was wrong. We then made and appointment with another physician that we had seen just one month prior. Subsequently, we received a phone call saying that we could not see that physician until we became "established" with him. They told us to make an appointment one week later to get "established", then the physician would see us for a sick visit. They did not care that we needed a visit immediately for the flu symptoms. We then made an appointment with a third physician at the group. We arrived at the medical office for the morning appointment. A woman called us back for what we thought was the appointment. Instead she identified herself as the office manager and told us that we would have to do the "establishment appointment" before we could be seen, and that we needed to leave. She essentially threw us out of the office even though we were ill and had been going to that practice for ten years. We had to leave and go to urgent care where we waited for two hours to be seen.
