Interesting place. Only half a bookstore, so not what I expected when I walked in. The other half…read moreseems to be tourist trap, trinket store. Understandable though, a pure bookstore would probably be tough. In any case, if you expected Barnes and Noble, don't get your hopes too high. They can probably order whatever you need though. I was looking for a pop fiction book (The Martian), so it was no problem finding it there. Some would probably go if you're looking for something not obscure and you'd do fine if you're looking for a random read.

It is beautifully laid out, mixing yarn and gifts, crammed in wall to wall in the old converted house. Upstairs is the serious yarn stash. Floor to (low attic eaves) ceiling and wall to wall yarn! They have an excellent selection, good prices for the quality of yarn they carry and a helpful, caring staff. We drove through Buena Vista this last weekend and the only reason I didn't fling myself from the vehicle (while Shawn was trying to fly by going twice the speed limit so that maybe if he drove by fast enough I may somehow forget it was there and drag him inside with me for 3 hours of yarn shopping) was because it was closed. If there were 10 stars, this place would get them all and more. If you are ever anywhere near Buena Vista, even if you don't do yarny crafts and you just like beautiful, hand-made gifts, do yourself a favor and stop by. And another update for the yarn I bought there - the brand the lady recommended, Alpaca With a Twist, is now my all-time favorite brand of alpaca yarn (and I even attended the Great Western Alpaca Show last year). She had excellent taste and great advice.

The main reason to head in is to view (and possibly purchase) all the fun artwork they showcase. Most of it seemed to be from local artists, and there was a huge variety... modern, country, landscapes, etc. If you're not in the market for a painting, you can also check out all the cards, handmade jewelry, and other little treasures they've got around the store. Finally, what makes a store? The service. The owner took a few minutes to talk to me about some of the local artists he showcases. Though I wasn't able to make a big purchase this time, I may well do so next time I'm around town.

He said, haha, you're funny...but then proceeded to give me a free card. Very nice. Aside from the cards, they have a nice selection of tourist swag, and gag gifts, deluxe body care products, Colorado themed presents, christmas ornaments, and more. Being antiquarian print collectors and art lovers, we spent much time browsing and chatting with Lucille. What a history there with her parents and Salvadore Dali, another artist that we collect! We could have spent hours chatting with Lucille. We purchased an Audubon edition print and of course, who could resist a gorgeous Salvadore Dali print to add to our collection. If you are ever in Gunnison, go out of your way to visit the gallery! With over 200,000 pieces to choose from, if you don't find something, I would be shocked!! Gunnison is very lucky to have this vault of world history in their little town! :)
