Norma (remote job manager) was very patient with us coaching me on my first permit application at my home, and Will (arborist) was great fulfilling appointments, recommendations, and overall good feedback during the project. The team sent on removal day were very courteous, asked if I had any questions before starting, and were even proactive in ensuring my neighbor's property was clean of sawdust. The only post-mortem complaint was repeatedly driving a Bobcat over the grass in my back yard, ripping up what little grass I had left back there, but I was planning on replanting back there anyway, as there wasn't much back there. I was given the number for a field manager and left a message for that person. I then drove down the road and ask the crew to move the chipper. I asked one of the crew members if it was normal practice to leave a chipper on private property. He laughed and said, "it is cheaper this way". Even after explaining that we needed the parking spaces that we have for our business, there was absolutely no hurry on the part of the company to move the chipper. Seeing the other reviews makes all of this makes sense, as a common practice of theirs. Nice lady to set up the appointment. No issues there. However, nothing reviewed on minimums for visits, fees if did not reach minimum work dollar amounts, etc. Should have been reviewed up front. Was specific on meeting at a time and was home at that time, not an hour or more prior to the appointment. Was in a meeting and was texting with arborist who ended up looking around on his own, without any guidance of property lines. No answer after repeated texts and phone calls. Based on their lack of communication and flippant customer service I would not recommend this company. An arborist visited a few weeks ago to give a quote for tree removal. I never heard a quote or any communication and decided to follow up today. The person answering the phone, Chanelle, was clearly annoyed that I would contact the company. The pros: 1. Scheduled a full month sooner then the other places I contacted. 2. They have an opt in list so they can come do the work ahead of schedule. This was able to put my project nearly a week ahead of originally scheduled. 3. They had all the logs cleaned up within a few days. The cons: 1. They were 25% more expensive. (I thought the sooner schedule was worth it. I was wrong) 2. They knocked my mail box over. Trying to replant it they killed many of my bulbs by not using the correct tool (post-hole digger). Finally a week later they planted a new post, shorter then the original. I'm quite tall, I don't like bending down to see inside my box. 3. They wrecked my neighbors retaining wall. When I called to inquire when it would be fixed they were quite rude saying no one told them of the damages. After several weeks they finally came out to fix the wall. (img1) Lets look at the repair. The worst brick work I've ever seen. Not even half assed, less than. Yes, those are bits of the stump wedged in with the blocks. (img2 and img3) Additionally they didn't even try to keep it level, the 'repair' is mounded much higher then the wall. I call them several times about the 'repair'. I get politely ignored for many months. Eventually someone came out and replaced the old blocks with new one, took out the stump bits that were wedged in, and leveled it. All laid dry, without mortar. (img4 and img5) I kept trying to get a hold of someone, but was constantly told 'they will call me back'. Never happened. Finally 6 months later, after many calls, I got a call back. Was told someone would come by to assess the situation tomorrow. Tomorrow happened and I was never contacted. Several more weeks trying to contact them before they told me, politely, I'm SOL and they wont fix it. Yay! My neighbors retaining wall is still wrecked. I get that its old, but that's the best they could do? 4. They wrecked my stone perimeter along the walk. (img6) When I called to inquire when it would be fixed they were quite rude saying no one told them of the damages. Before they removed the tree, the blocks along my walk were pretty even, from my neighbors drive to mine. Their repair looks like a roller coaster going up and down. My neighbor used Gunnison and she sent me a certified letter containing Gunnison's letter and a photograph of MY tree. In my opinion this photograph has been heavily digitally modified but I will let you come to your own conclusion. Notice the pitch of my roof (low and squat) and other background flaws in their picture. For the record the pitch of my roof is high and sharp and I am including an unaltered pic of my tree just snapped with my phone. My neighbor let me know she sent Gunnison's photo to her insurance company. I can't dispute that my tree might need evaluation. It is hard to budget on 100% disability. Let me start by saying that I have never written a bad review before. However, I am disappointed with how Gunnison has handled our situation. We had used Gunnison for a job a couple of years ago and based on that positive experience, we decided to use Gunnison again to remove 3 extremely large trees from the back of the house. 4 workers showed up on time and did a great job of carefully taking down the trees in an unbelievably quick time. They left the bigger trunk pieces in a neat pile in the road which were then collected the next day. The issue we have is related to the oil spill left on the road by the mulching machine. This dark black patch is about 8'x5' right outside our house. I called Gunnison who sent someone out to clean it but they only removed about one fifth of the oil patch. I called the office again to ask that someone be sent to clean the area but no-one has come out and it's been over 2 months. I've sent various emails and included pictures of how terrible the mess is but have not received a response. This is very disappointing and I regret paying the invoice so promptly because now there is no incentive for them to act....apart from having a conscience to do what's right. read more

My husband and I had a tree in the front yard that was about 1/3 dead. We probably could have waited to get it taken down - but I'm a "better safe than sorry" kind of person. I wanted to go with a company who was fully licensed and insured. Not only did Gunnison quote out a VERY FAIR price, but they were able to get us on the schedule the very next week! We set up a day and time (I was told I didn't need to be there, but I work from home anyways), and unfortunately we got rained out and we had to understandably reschedule. But they showed up the very next next business day! A crew of 4 men set to work right away, with ropes and pulleys and hard hats. They worked like a well-oiled machine: cutting, carefully lowering with pulleys and belays, and then chopping and tossing limbs into the wood chipper. My neighbor/friend and I watched and ate lunch from her driveway across the street. The entire tree was down in a little over an hour. The whole time I was impressed beyond words at how efficient the team was, and how safe they were with all these chainsaws and "falling" limbs. When they were done, they raked up the debris, blew off the yard and street, and left my yard in pretty good shape. The thicker limbs and the trunk could obviously not fit through the wood chipper, so they were left in tidy piles in my yard near the street where (only 2 business days later) a big truck with a crane (I've been told it's called a "grapple") was able to come pick them up and haul them away. Let me tell you about the Grapple Operator: that man has the delicate touch of a brain surgeon! He moved that giant machine with such finesse - it was like watching a ballet. It was amazing: the way he picked up the tiniest (but not really tiny) of branches with just a corner of the claw to delicately arrange them so he could get more limbs per scoop, and the power of the machine that was able to lift the giant tree trunk as if it weighed nothing at all! And when he was done, he raked up the remaining debris, stomped down a few divots in the grass, and went on his merry way quick as a bunny! Everyone I've encountered at this company was just as nice as could be, and I would absolutely recommend Gunnison to anyone looking to get a tree taken out. The speed and efficiency of this company, as well as the way they tidy up after themselves, really made a mark on me! read more

After reading so many reviews, I am surprised by the experience by others. A family member referred me and I thought it was worth a shot. Matt came out within days (Thanks to Brittany arranging). Matt walked our HOA community and saw the locations that needed the work done. I received the estimate within 1 business day which was reasonable. The scope of work included cutting back trees, with many of a very large size. The on site supervisor that came out who recently started with them was also awesome. The only concern I had was the large tree limbs falling on our property, which they promptly changed their approach to remove them along the side of the homes instead. I had no date changes, was invoiced quickly and they were very flexible in questions on estimates, confirmation of dates, and us are reducing the scope of work while on site. Matt returned back to see the section we did not need done due to a new development area near our community already removing the trees. They offered a reduced price that made it reasonable as well. I would highly recommend them for your future needs, the stump grinder took an extra day or two but was resolved within the same week. read more

We understand that safety is a priority, but they gut limbs that are nowhere near nor growing towards the lines. Basically cutting some trees in half when a few feet of pruning would last for years. Absolute worst company to try and do business with. Their estimator Jonathan Potts is a terrible employee. Signed a quote on 6.28.20 and they didn't even bother submitting for the permit for two and a half more months on 9.11.20. That was after me having to call every couple weeks at least to try and figure out what was even going on. They may have been better before the pandemic but their customer service and responsiveness is now absolutely abysmal. I would not recommend doing business with this company for anything. read more

Gunnison removed a tree in a neighbors yard and used our alley to haul the tree away and then dumped the tree trunk, limbs, and debris at the front of our house. They never asked permission to do this. Gunnison then damaged our turf near the street and left dirt and debris in the street. The neighbor who hired them is constructing a new house and I don't know their number so I called Gunnison and left a message asking them to return and clean up their mess and repair what they damaged. They have not returned my call nor can I get anyone to even answer the phone. Their workers on site were rude and uncooperative. I understand higher bids - especially if there is expensive equipment involve. But 3x for a relatively simple straight-forward removal? I contacted Gunnison to remove a tree and do significant limb removal on 4 others. I was rescheduled 2x without notice. When the crew did arrive they had the wrong truck and I was rescheduled again, though the arborist who quoted me saw everything that needed to be done. They started working on 2 very large oaks in the back but, proceeded to only do about half of the work, that I was quoted for. They gave me a different appraisal of the trees (which have a lot of dead limbs and disease on them) and told me that I didn't need to do that much because the trees would likely die and they thought the limbs were "healthy enough". I asked them if they could cut some additional branches close to the house for safety and they wanted me to pick out specific branches. At this point I felt like I was haggling over limbs. They "finished" without ever getting near the top of the trees which appeared the most damaged. This would have been fine but, a few weeks into storm season, I am now seeing significant limb loss of diseased branches falling around my house and on my new deck. When they started working at a tree in the front yard they needed a bucket truck to access limbs around power lines. One of the guys asked if I didn't want to change the height of the work I was quoted for, for around 5ft (on a 30ft tree) to under the power lines. He said it would be better for the tree. I said ok as long as it was around 15ft as it grows very fast and I did not want it to interfere with the lines. They started working and I quickly noticed that they were cutting it to right up under the power lines and that was too tall for me to maintain and would soon overgrow them. I went out to ask them to cut it down further, to what we agreed, and they said ok and continued working. They were more than halfway done at this point and the guy in the bucket was cutting limbs with a chainsaw while he was also maneuvering the bucket and navigating the multiple power lines and limbs. But, then he hit my neighbors power line, ripping it from the pole and sending out sparks and loud pops. All work had to stop while they called the power company to come fix the mess. They decided to leave and go to another job (mind you about half the trees limbs and leaves were left on my lawn tangled in a power line) and said they'd come back later to clean up. After the power company came and fixed the lines I received a call from another guy at Gunnison who said they may not be able to make it back to clean up and will let me know. They did end up returning at the end of they day though I was never informed as they said. Finally came the bill... when I called to discuss a lower bill, I was told to call the arborist that did the quote. I did and he said he'd "see what he could do" and send an adjustment to billing. I did not receive a new bill for well over month and was never contacted again to discuss any adjustments. But, it was labelled as past due regardless. I also only received a $150 discount... off of the 3 trees with half work, totalling $1600. I paid the majority of the invoice immediately and put a comment that I was never contacted to discuss the adjustment nor the "quality"/scope of work and was immensely displeased. I still have not heard back from a person but have been informed via email that they are going to contact their attorneys over the additional "$190" that is past due. Though as I said, they did not adjust the pay term after issuing a new bill I had been WAITING for. All in all, don't use these people. Their lack of communication with clients as well as their different team members, unsafe practices, and inconsistent work and billing practices make them more of a hassle then a help. UPDATE: I was contacted by the original arborist and waived the remaining amount. He also seemed genuinely sorry for all the issues. read more

We have used Gunnison twice for tree issues. The first time they came out to give us a quote on a Sweet Gum we wanted removed. He noticed that a Maple near the house had some severe issues. Which after some of the storms that have rolled thru -we are super glad he noticed and showed us. They came and cut both down along with a few other smaller trees falling into the creek on our property. Super courteous, competitively priced and got it all done in an afternoon. Cleaned everything up - chipped the limbs and stacked the trucks on the street for the grappler. Didn't have to stress about anything. Second job was a our beloved healthy Silver Maple that a micro burst took down. They actually showed up earlier than scheduled - which was awesome. Took a few hours, they also took a bunch of limbs and other storm debris. Grappler picked it all up a day later and cleaned the street afterwards. I will always call Gunnison for any tree issue - quick reply, great rates and friendly folks. read more

Cannot recommend this company. Makes promises then doesn't follow through. Came out first time and trimmed tree when they were supposed to remove all dead and dying limbs over 3.5 inches in diameter. Claimed they were to cut limbs only under 3.5 inches in diameter. We had to refer to the authorization we signed and prove them wrong. They then came out a few months later to finish the job and didn't have the equipment that was necessary. The two guys who came out the first time were awesome. Unfortunately we had to wait three weeks for them to first come out after the initial estimate. We got the estimate for 3 pines and agreed for a 3-5 man crew. We'll pay 3500. So far so good, right? Two guys arrived and worked unitl noon. They only stripped the limbs and apologized for not being able to finish the work due to a missing guy. They said Norma would get back to us. Two more weeks go by and no contact. We call them back and they tell us that they wont be able to schedule anything in the near future "Norma will call you back". After waiting another week and she finally called to schedule them to come finish the job by today 9/18! Guess what?! They call us on 9/18 and say they can't make it but "Norma will call you back" in 2-3 business days. This is the fourth time I've heard this excuse. Absolutely absurd for three trees. And we have to push our landscaping project back a month now. Get someone else if you need timely service or are on a schedule because they clearly do not respect their client's time. They told me they would come at 10am remove the 11 trees that another company had cut down and had left in my yard from 7/20/18. They came on time and took care of the trees and debris. It was an absolute pleasure dealing with these professionals. We had three dead trees on our property including one in the back that was dangerously close to falling, and a large oak tree in the front yard that was very near power lines. I took competitive bids from three leading tree companies in Atlanta. I expected the bid from Gunnison to be a bit higher because based on my research they were the more professional of the three. Mack, their representative came out and met with me and toured the property. He was knowledgeable, and promptly prepared and emailed me a quote. I was pleasantly surprised to see that their quote was very competitive, and was even slightly below the other bids. The guys who did the work were unbelievably quick. They removed all three trees with no damage to my fence or any part of the property. The level of cleanup exceeded my expectations. Within 24 hours a large truck returned to pick up the trunks of the heaviest trees which could not be ground up in the chipper. Mack followed up with me the following business day to make sure I was satisfied, and later that day I received an invoice via email. They made something I'd been dreading for a year and easy project. Would not hesitate to recommend this firm to anyone. Contacted Gunnison Tree Specialist for a routine pruning asked for an estimate through their website a received almost immediate response. They were able to come out the same day and Andrew who provided the estimate was knowledgeable and provided a very detailed estimate and also gave several helpful hints. We agreed with the estimate and scheduled Gunnison to come out. Unfortunately the rest of my experience with Gunnison was not as smooth. Gunnison had to reschedule service once, which was understandable since it was the day after a big storm and emergency calls took priority. We then rescheduled for the following week. The morning before our appointment we called to confirm...everything was set and we cleared our work schedule for the following day. Late that afternoon (after 3), we received a call from Gunnison telling us that our appointment was canceled and we had to reschedule yet again (losing one work day) We asked for a morning appointment for the following Saturday, the individual who scheduled was very pleasant and assured us we would have a morning appointment. The morning of the appointment came and went...no contact from Gunnison till early afternoon, apologizing that they would not be able to make it. Canceling the appointment yet again. Everyone who I contacted was pleasant and friendly, but at this point I would not recommend Gunnison. I can understand emergency service takes priority, but canceling after confirming an appointment is bad. Canceling well after the appointment time window is unacceptable. At this point we have lost one full work day and one full Saturday due to Gunnison's inability to properly schedule/contact their customers. read more

Gunnison was hired by my HOA to come around and pick up limbs and debris that homeowners would put by the curb. We all paid our HOA the pick up fee. After several days of delays, they finally came by and picked up the debris. I was glad to see they finally picked it up, but to my horror, they destroyed my nice zoysia grass, and dug several deep holes with the grappling truck. Attached is the picture after I filled the holes with topsoil. The HOA spoke with the Gunnison coordinator who assured us they would fix it. Never saw them. Now my front lawn looks horrible, cant get enough water on it. I'm out several hundred dollars because of it too. I would not hire these guys again. read more
