Authentic Basque flavors in a warm, welcoming setting
While looking for good places to eat in Bilbao, we came across Gure Kabi after reading several positive reviews online. We decided to give it a try, and it turned out to be a very enjoyable dinner.
One of the nice surprises was meeting the owner, Adolfo, who shared that the restaurant has been around for over 12 years. He was friendly, cheerful, and made us feel genuinely welcome.
Our waiter recommended the fish specialties, so we ordered the Arroz con Bogavante (rice with clawed lobster) and the line-caught sea bass, served with garlic, potatoes, and vegetables. Both dishes were very well prepared. The sea bass was fresh and simply cooked to let the quality of the fish shine. My favorite, though, was the lobster rice. The rice had a rich seafood flavor and a creamy, almost risotto-like texture that made it incredibly comforting.
One unexpected highlight was the bread. It was fresh, soft inside, and one of the better breads we've had during our travels around Spain.
For dessert, we tried the Homemade Goxua, a traditional Basque dessert. It reminded me a bit of a lighter, sweeter tiramisu with layers of sponge cake, custard, and cream. If you've never had it before, it's definitely worth trying.
The atmosphere was relaxed, the service was attentive without being intrusive, and it was a nice place to enjoy a leisurely Basque meal. If you're in Bilbao and looking for traditional Basque cuisine beyond the usual pintxos bars, Gure Kabi is a solid choice, especially if you're a seafood lover. The Arroz con Bogavante is the dish I'd recommend ordering. read more
