Dr.Gurk genuinely cares and wants to help. As someone who has had countless therapists over the last 20 years its very hard to find one who does really care and wants to create a plan to help you have the tools to help yourself achieve what you need to be happy and healthy. I'm allergic to dogs and he made sure they weren't in the office while I was there. He offered to let me call him after hours if I was in crisis. If I had had more time with him I think I would be doing much better but health issues have made that impossible for the time being. I wish I found dr. Gurk sooner. read more

I Called Mr Gurk inquiring about services, we discussed the services he offers and the types of insurance he excepts ect... During our conversation he said 2 things to me that were unproffesional and rude! At this time I have mass health insurance through BMC. Mr Gurk was telling me the cost of the services I was inquiring about, he went on to say " if you qualify for mass health chances are you won't be able to afford to pay out of pocket! That comment was unprofessional and uncalled for! I have been a hard working citizen all my life! I will never bring my son to him for services, either will I ever recommend him! read more

Consulted and psychological testing for DSS and Sutton Schools. Developed inpatient psychologist position for Harrington Hospital. Full time private practice in Spencer since 1986. Personal: married and divorced in my 20's. Raise, train, show dogs and offer Pet Assisted Therapy (participant in definitive scientific study for this modality). Should Dr. Mitchell Gurk be allowed to continue his PhD Dissertation Research into Mishandling Secret Recordings of Therapy Sessions, and Convince his licensing board my medical records belong to Gurk? Police indicate they need more than Gurk's Confession and my complaint for me to file a police report. Any ideas??? I'm having trouble adding images to Google Reviews, but you can find some images or his standard intake forms, termination contract, & my commentary on Yelp. Amazon, Google, and Yelp have been incredibly helpful in my efforts to expose this man. Thank You!!! Where were the microphones and cameras? Was he just looking to amplify my trauma before terminating me? Are the secret recordings his trophies? What was with the bones all over the floor, temper tantrums, and attempts to hypnotize me, at what I can only describe as, dog point? I can only hope to recover from Gurk's therapy. No he cannot pet me, and no I did not mishear him. I thought he had a relatively mild version of Ichthyosis. I didn't realize it gave him such a diminished self image. I assumed someone with his credentials would be a Well Respected member of The Community. I could not have been more wrong!!! Gurk is the most terrifying person I have met in my life!!! I can barely formulate comprehendible thoughts or even leave my own house after my experiences in his office. Why would police need me to prove anything in this document before I am allowed to file a police report on him? Why am I not allowed to give zero stars? I deeply regret not taking the time to read the reviews before reaching out to him as a potential client. During our phone conversation, he was not only condescending but also thoroughly questioned me about my health insurance, which made me feel uneasy and vulnerable. When I mentioned the issues I wanted to work on, he responded with insults, calling me a "robot" and implying that I sounded like a "textbook" rather than a real person. He also insinuated that I had no idea about what I wanted to work on, despite my clear and specific explanation. Having seen many therapists in the past, I have never encountered such hostility and a complete lack of empathy from someone who is supposed to help me. I could immediately sense that he was out of touch with my needs and concerns, and it was apparent that he lacked the necessary skills to provide me with the support and guidance I was seeking. At the end of the phone call, I made it clear to him that I was no longer interested in requiring his services. His behavior left me feeling disrespected and devalued as a potential client. It was a disappointing experience, but I am grateful for having realized his unprofessionalism before committing to his services. read more
