We were on our way south to Galway and felt hungry. Driving through town we spotted this place, which looked fun. It was just past lunchtime and it was pretty empty, except some few guests at the bar. We were travelling with our dog, so we took a seat outside in the back in the beergarden. The menu features some good items, including typical pub classic (a good thing). We ordered two beer, a Ceasar's Salad and Bangers & Mash. Beer was nice and cold and the Salad was good too, nice pieces of bacon and chicken. The highlight surely was the superb Bangers & Mash. Good, rich mash. And very flavourful Bangers....not your simple, store-bought sausages. Lot of gravy with lots of onions (which I like). A great meal! Service was very friendly and quick. Really really bad on my last two visits and will not be doing it again. Used to stop there reasonably regular and the food was what it was which I was prepared to accept. Don't know what they have done recently but went there last Tuesday and ordered chicken wings as a starter and beef stroganoff for da main course. Oh my god if I tried I could not put out the actual muck they served. Not only that but it was quite obvious to the server that I tried every chicken wing but all were left on my plate and he did not have the cop on to ask why. Beef stroganoff was like some strips of meat with oxtail soup poured over it and some yellow yes yellow not saffron type rice underneath, bit like clorinda that we give to our broilers.... Gurns is a lovely old style pub with a comfortable lounge which does a great trade in bar food. There is usually a friendly crowd about and great staff pouring good pints. If you are looking to see soccer, football or golf Gurns is the place to catch your favourite sport on the big screen. Highly recommended. read more
