It was 30 minutes from check-in to check-out for my pre-op interview and when I went in for the procedure they were running 1 hr early and the staff was all very professional, friendly and efficient at St Joseph's Outpatient Surgery Center too. Currently my primary care physician has faxed an URGENT referral TWICE to Dr Mahli's office on Harding Way in Stockton California for possible colon cancer. I've been calling for 11 days trying to get them to process this referral so I can make an appointment. They state that an urgent referral is taken care of within 72 hours. Not true at all. Today I left a message to contact me tomorrow or I'll be looking for another doctor. Or maybe I'll just give up and die. If this is the first step in my bottle against cancer, it's already a fail. I can't take the stress of calling every day and getting nowhere when my life is on the line. I have no confidence in this doctor at all, or Dignity Health. I would never use Dignity Health unless forced to. It is most definitely NOT HUMAN KINDNESS!

Dealing with Dignity Health is a frustrating and chaotic experience at best, and at worst, your issues are faster and more easily addressed by driving to the office of the doctor you want to see. There are several sites and multiple specialties within the group, all served by a single call center that can only pass a message on tagged to your digital medical file. Although you may know precisely where your doctor works, the staff at that site do not have their own phone numbers to take a direct call. Today, I wasted roughly 25 minutes on hold trying to reach my doctor with a quetion about my post-operative care, eventually driving to his office just seven minutes away and finding that he had left the building 15 minutes earlier to handle an emergency at the hospital across the street. My question from yesterday remains unanswered, but fortunately, it seems that the issue may be resolving, slowly, but spontaneously. Dr. Bradley Digney is the surgeon who did my operation, and I can recommend him heartily and without reservations and would not hesitate to have him operate on me or my loved ones in the future should the need arise. Frankly, he deserves better services from the Dignity Health management even more than do I. The management seems to think that distancing the doctors from their patients with a call center is good, and they appear to know nothing about the Human Kindness that this bureaucracy claims to value.
