Had an appointment with the owner for an estimate. He didn't show up. Didn't even call to say he couldn't make it. I wouldn't trust them.

I was having problems with my insurance company after Ida. They're an A rated company so they have the funds to pay me, they just gave me about 10% of my real claim. I had Mr. Gurtler come and inspect my home. The Gurtler bros. are considered the " Gold Standard " by which any and all other Structural Engineers are compared to in and around the Greater New Orleans area. Anybody in the Loui knows about the Gurtler bros reputation!! It's the best $ I've spent in quite some time. I'm poised to get $20,000.00 back for a slab repair that the ins. co. called settling / sinking. They are very responsive and prompt with keeping appointments. I would STRONGLY recommend them to anybody needing a REAL damage repost on your home. read more

If I could give these ungrateful people less than one star I would. Dawn on their office who dies the scheduling is the most unpleasant horrible in customer friendly person. Do not bother using these horrible people. They have done many inspections for me as I've bought 20plus properties, I've always let them slide on things they didn't find. This time I asked to get scheduled in actively manner and she was combative and hateful. A shrew at best. Go elsewhere. I used 360 inspections very happy. read more

I contacted Gurtler brothers about having my home evaluated prior to remodeling. I spoke with Dawn and while she wasn't able to provide an estimate for services, she did say I could contact Fritz Gurtler, the engineer. I called and left a message for him on his cell phone as instructed. But I never received a call back which says a lot about their communication style. That's not someone I want to work with. read more

After home inspection it was recommended I have a structural engineer examine the property. I informed the Gurtler Brothers the time frame in which I would need the report completed. After not meeting the deadline, I asked for an extension from the seller. I contacted Gurtler Brothers again. Dawn, the secretary, informed me I should have already had a report and that she would contact me at the latest the next morning. After not receiving a phone call I called Dawn, who then informed me the report would not be completed by the extended deadline. She became upset, argumentative and very sarcastic. In speaking with one of the owners, he informed me That he knew the seller and that I should just ask for another extension and that he would not work with me any longer because I raised my voice with his secretary. He informed me he would issue me a refund for the engineering report, which I have still not received ~3 weeks later. read more

This company did the inspection for our buyer. The first guy wouldn't go under our standard New Orleans style house raised about 2 ft. He said he couldn't get under the house to inspect. I outweigh him by at least 60 lbs and I'm a few inches taller, I've been under every inch of that house. The owner was called in to finish the inspection a few days later. When he walked up to the house I was talking to the perspective buyer and we were kinda joking that I had no problem as a chubby guy getting under there myself. This must have upset him, his attitude was crap the rest of the time he was here. Don't worry he wasn't here long, neither was the first inspector. All told both of those men spent less than an hour apiece at my house. That was it, for a home inspection! The inspection on our new house with an obviously more detail oriented inspector took about half a day. The attitude was still bad when he left. My advice, if you're buying a house and want a really thorough inspection, skip past this grouchy dude who tends to let his emotions influence his report. In case you think I'm mad because his report cost me money, it didn't. I paid nothing for repairs and didn't lower my price. Because I know my own house. Make sure you do as well if see this guy coming. I'm happy I didn't have to pay for that report. read more

Very disappointed in my service...or lack there of, rather. Fritz Gurtler came out to my house twice in a 3 month period to take measurements for a camel back add on. But we never got a follow up or proposal after that. Total waste of time and effort. I tried to give him the benefit out the doubt, as his assistant, Dawn, told me he is very busy. But after 3 weeks of trying to following up to no avail, both Dawn and Fritz stopped answering my calls and emails completely! I even came by the office and there was no one there! I am still completely baffled at the lack of communication and unprofessionalism. Fortunately, Elizabeth, at Peofessional Design Group came through!!! They came out and took measurements and I had an actually blueprint draft in 2 weeks! If you seriously want house plans, don't waste your time with Gurtler Brothers!!! read more

Their inspection reports look good and make sense. It is very hard to get them to give you appointments and to have them talk to you about any questions you might have. Their home inspections are fine and you get what you are paying / looking for. Engineering reports and issue specific inspections I recommend going elsewhere. You will pay more than you have to and get poor service. read more

Looks like a 1st grader wrote this report. Never use a company that your Realtor recommends. The report told us nothing nor did he test the things he should have. He said he did not test the plumbing because he was told it had a leak. HELLO that is your job! Where was the leak? Could have told us that since we paid you to look for it. We bought the house same day ran the water to find it leaking from the second floor into our first floor kitchen! I am so upset. Found out today that the A/C return air has no filter in it. Found out electrical is all bad!!!!! What did this guy do? The inspectors name is Warren Amedio. I spent over $1100.00 for a Bullshit inspection report. BUYERS BEWARE! Bad Company that works for the Real Estate Company. Lesson learned! Hope you don't get goat roped by them. read more

Gurtler Brothers are excellent. Thorough, friendly, and extremely knowledgeable about the unique intricacies of New Orleans houses, these are the go to guys. My husband and I are buying an antique home in the Bywater and Scott was able not only to tell us the exact shape our house is in, but where it can go and how it can get there. Incidentally, he'd done the inspections on half the block! After our appointment with them, my mind is soothed and I know that, despite our house needing some work, we can rely on Gurtler bro to be able to refer us to building companies that they have thoroughly vetted. read more

By and large, I found this home inspection to be a waste of money. My experience with Gurtler was not positive. Cut and pasted report that, aside from the pictures, looks very much like the shell they must have used for dozens of houses before mine. It is only easy to get them on the phone when it is time for them to collect your check. Otherwise, forget it. If you have questions about your inspection, be prepared to wait for weeks because, it becomes quite difficult to get in contact with them after the report is complete. Then when something goes wrong a few months later, something that they clearly did not identify on their report--and should have-- my experience was that they did not stand behind their inspection at all. Tough luck, buddy. At least that was my experience. read more

Friendly for sure... thorough? Not so much. Bought a garden district condo at the end of last year and although all seemed well according to inspection, there have been some glaring issues that Gurtler missed. Windows and doors are leaking, dishwasher needed to be replaced, etc. A huge hassle to deal with problems that should have been noted and fixed in the first place. read more

I hired Gurtler Brothers to perform inspections on two properties I was considering purchasing. The inspector showed up at the location of the properties and performed the inspection halfheartedly and disinterested to say the least. I wrote him a check upon completion and he assured me I would receive my inspection report by email within a few days. Just over three weeks later I had not received my inspection reports. I phoned Gurtler Brothers to inquire about the reports and the woman who answered the phone asked me to hold while she looked in to it. She returned to the phone and said she had spoken to the inspector and he completely forgot about them. She apologized and offered me a refund. I agreed that would be fine. She explained it would be about a week before she could mail me the check because the accountant was out of the office. I said that would be ok, gave her my address and said goodbye. Just over three more weeks went by and I had not yet received a refund check. I phoned Gurtler Brothers again and talked to the same woman. She was confused as to what had happened and said she would look into it and phone me back. I asked her to please follow up with me. She promised she would and hung up the phone. Another week passed and still no word. I called Gurtler Brothers for the third time and the same woman answered the phone. I again explained to her my situation. She said she didn't remember, asked me for my name and phone number and said she would call me back. I explained to her that she had promised to call me back the last time we talked and didn't. She then coped and attitude and said, "I know your desperate for your money, Ill have Mr. Gurtler call you tomorrow". I still have not received a call or an inspection report......... Update. Terrible. They missed a huge gas leak from the meter to the house. We bought in the summer when gas is hardly used but we discovered the leak quickly when the furnace started running. Gurtler said they had no responsibility since they only perform a visual inspection and follow state guidelines which apparently are worthless. At first I thought they did a good job but now I realize that they just got lucky. Do yourself a favor and find another inspection company. read more

The inspectors are Gurtler Bros are thorough and informative. Since they are also a structural engineering firm, they are able to provide a higher level of information about homes in New Orleans where foundation and structural problems are so prevalent due to our soil and termites. I used them last year to provide a report on a home I was purchasing since and I was also selling a home, I had to have them assess my foundation that the buyer's inspector was unable to assess. The foundation was fine, but if the buyers would have used a knowledgable inspector from the get-go it would have saved time and money. There's a reason all the Realtors recommend them... they're the most familiar with historic structures. As for what another reviewer said, old homes with original windows and doors are not air tight - did he really an inspector to point that out? read more

I hired Gurtler Bros to perform a home and stucco inspection for me. This work was performed on August 6, 2015. They did an excellent job. The inspector, Ashley, was prompt, professional, knowledgable, informative and friendly. The office staff were also very helpful. The report was done very well and the turnaround was quick. Ashley answered all of my questions during and even after the inspection. I found Gurtler Bros to provide a more through and professional service than the typical home inspection service. Hired Gurtler to inspect for possible moisture coming into our house from leaks or windows. The whole inspection took an hour or so and I was told a report would be ready within a few days. 3 weeks later I started getting calls about payment as our report was ready. When I initially asked about payment I was told it would be in the $300-$400 range. Suddenly the price had gone up and they were demanding a payment for $1200. When I spoke to the lady who had been contacting me for payment and informed her that no one ever said the price would be anywhere near that much, she simply said don't pay for it and you won't get the report! Fine, I don't need to pay for a $1200 partial inspection for leaks. However, apparently the message didn't get relayed and over a year later we are still being contacted for payment though we never got the report. I let them know what happened every time, they tell me a note was made in the file and then a month or two later I get calls again. These people are ridiculous! read more

Gurtler inspected my foundation work for my house. They said it was done correctly. Turns out it was not done right. They ignored my calls, and would not fix the problem. I bought the house bc they said the repairs were done right. I had to pay out of pocket to have the work done right. read more

I have often used this company for home inspections and found then professional and efficient. However, my last 2 inspections with this company make me question what's going on. Fully 6 days after inspection I'm still waiting for an inspection report. Disappointing to say the least. Phone calls yield no result. read more

I am a Realtor with an out of town buyer who hired Gurtler to perform testing on a condo. I am still waiting on the inspector to show up one and one half hours after the scheduled appointment time. I have had 2 phone conversations with the office worker who seems uninformed and uninterested. I had to call their office both times. They were not professional enough to call me to let me know they were going to be late for a scheduled appointment. I have had trouble getting reports in a timely manner from them in the past. If you have a time table to meet, I would not recommend using them. read more

I hired Gurtler Bros. for a home inspection of a historic home that we were purchasing over a year ago. The inspection APPEARED thorough and did not find any issues that were alarming enough to stop us from purchasing, or really even anything we could use to go in with a lower offer. Since then, we have had to replace multiple appliances, multiple rotten rafters that were camouflaged with hardie board (which they could have caught if they had gotten up on a ladder), a huge historic leaking window, and the ENTIRE roof of a portion of the house due to structural issues. When we began to uncover a lot of this, I called the office and asked to speak with Mr. Gurtler to at least try and see if I could get my inspection cost back. The secretary told me multiple times I would receive a call back, but never did. I emailed multiple times as well and finally gave up. We have spent well over $15,000 since we bought the house on these issues, which has far surpassed our budget and financially strained us. read more
