Pilot is a brand that is consistently lower priced, clean, and dependable compared to many other gas stations in the area. Also, if you have the Pilot loyalty card, you will save three cents per gallon. Hey every little bit helps! It was conveniently located just off the Interstate Highway. Even though the price had gone up by nine cents since when I had checked it the day before, it was still among the lowest in the area.

While pumping gas, there were 3 pet goats lying as they watched people gassing up their vehicles. Once I completed the transaction, I went over to pet the goats, very tame and mellow. Staff inside were friendly and the convenience store was well-stocked with a variety of travel and refreshment products. This was a great stop just to stretch the legs, see the goats, and appreciate how life was in the 1880's in South Dakota.

There are two registers to the left of when you enter, and plastic bags are free (no 5 cent fee!). I bought a bag of pretzels, a jar of peanut butter, and some candy, but the store has a tons of merchandise and even produce (fresh fruits and veggies). The store is volunteer-run by students from the local high school, and they are super friendly.

My house-brewed coffee, meanwhile, was more than palatable: it was downright good, which is a bit novel for a gas-station (though very much appreciated). But Lil'feller isn't just in Winner, it's a winner; and Winner itself isn't your ordinary town of twenty-five-hundred: it's the county-seat of both its own and the neighboring county. Lil'feller - at least in my limited experience - does justice to such a twin-seated town (even if one drops in, as I did, outside of its famous pheasant season).
