It's a pleasantly laid-out store, with a slightly more up-market feel than Mercadona or Caprabo, though it's not as large as its competitors and the range is a bit more limited. There's not much parking in the surrounding area, so it's not much use if you shop by car, although the local Vilanova town bus stops nearby. Usefully, it's open during the siesta, every week-day.

It's hard to recommend just one or two vendors: the best bet is to go and decide for yourself which produce most takes your fancy. The building itself is an impressive example of Brutalist architecture - which they've tried to tone down with a pinkish hue of paint! On Saturdays there's a large temporary market in the adjacent square, selling all sorts of leathergoods, shoes, clothes, fabrics, bedding, plants, kitchen utensils - you name it. As you'd expect, there are bargains to be had, alongside plenty of tat, so check the quality (and beware the odd pickpocket, as it does get very crowded).

The interior is a slightly odd shape, so navigating takes a little while to get used to. The choice of fruit and veg is a bit more limited than we're used to at home quite a lot of stuff is pre-packed, and there are certain things they don't have but then the market is only a few minutes away with several greengrocers to choose from. Other than that, it stocks most things: of course, the choice and brands reflect Spanish tastes, so there are a few things they don't have that we're used to the in UK, and vice-versa. It's a popular branch, and has customer parking and (useful, this) lockers to stash your bags or other shopping while you are going around.

I felt that the pricing of the tour and wine were reasonable - I remember paying $18-20 for a bottle of delicious Cava. Nothing like the Sonoma/Napa prices! Heck, even lunch was fairly priced, plus you get beautiful views of the mountains and the winery. First, you'll need to call a taxi upon arrival at the train station in town. We were not prepared for this and it was a headache, so just make sure you have that number in your phone ahead of time. The train and taxi are well worth the trip once you get there. Codorniu is a cava lover's oasis. Not only is the property picturesque and historic, but the staff is incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. After touring the stunning grounds, you'll get to take an underground tram through the property. Eventually, you'll arrive at a tasting room where you can try several of their cavas. It's basically an adult playground and I can guarantee you won't regret your visit!
