I will start by saying I've always went to Guthrie and thought they cared about their patients but My wife went here to the walk-in clinic for a foot issue and a possible ear infection. She told the front desk lady this she was called back in and the nurse told her they can only address one issue per visit so which one does she want addressed this is totally Absurd, I've never heard of a doctor that care anything about a patient saying something like that totally uncalled for and I hope they addressed this issue and stop being so money hungry!!!! all they were wanting was to charger for two visits crazy if you can help it try a different clinic. This is about the Guthrie group in general - firstly, they are all about the money, the patient is a secondary consideration (if at all) a typical profits before patients organisation - $330 to see a PA for a routine annual check up!! I have been going to the Guthrie Clinic for some years and while I am happy with my provider, it is unfortunate that she works for guthrie and not a more trustworthy organisation - if there are any in this country any more. Guthrie Hospital Corning is a get em in and push em out establishment and their surgical unit mantains a "we'll give it a go and if we can't do it we'll send you some where else" attitude - the exact treatment my wife got from a gynocologist there (Peter Harwood). All they wanted was the first shot at her surgery for the money they charged her health insurance. They then kicked her out the "back door" (literally) before she had even come out of the anesthetic and then refused to address after surgery complications by telling her it wasn't his/their problem! There are other issues as well but too many to list. The bottom line is this, if you have a choice between Guthrie and some where else (anywhere else) take the some where else. Due to their profits before patients policy - you can't even be sure if what they tell you is correct or just a story line to get you going back again and again and again. This isn't regarding the Sayre clinic, but the Big Flats office endocrinology department. The specific provider is Rhonda Trusty, MD. All I can say is, don't trust anything this provider says to you. Get a second opinion. She has no care or concern about her patients at all, just the paycheck. Please don't put your health in her hands. And if you perhaps have already, do some research and verify her information. read more

ETREMEMLY POOR: I went to a heart specialist at Guthrie. He told me I had had a heart attack in the past and he would follow-up with an appt within a month. I waited a full month and heard nothing from him, so I called their office. The secretary gave me the run-around about why he hadn't contacted me. Then I noticed that he had removed all my heart issues that he said I had from the Guthrie portal records. He refused to follow-up. Fortunately, I had printed out some of the info he said was wrong with me, which I still have--but no other specialist will ever see that info bec he surreptitiously removed it from my record. I considered asked another dr in that dept to follow up on my care in his stead, until I found out HE WAS THE DEPT HEAD-- so there was no point in asking. I CANNOT RECOMMEND the heart dept at Guthrie (or any of its subsidiaries, as they have to report to him.) read more

Works in customer service as a phone representative and is very rude, she works at the Southport Guthrie, I requested information about my son she already seemed as though she didnt want to check on the information I needed she then became loud and hung up the phone while I was asking to speak to another representative about scheduling an appointment. I have not had what I would call a good experience with this health care system. Have been involved with 4 specialty clinics and 3 of them left alot to the imagination. At Guthrie, you don't have an MD, you have who they say you will have. If the physician you were seeing left the practice... no notification and they just put you in with someone else or cancel your appt. 2 of the specialty clinics for certain put profits, alternate income streams and such well above patient care. When I balked at $5K hearing aides that my insurance would not cover, the audiologist then got very rude. I was there for treatment of Benign Proximal Vertigo... yes I have a hearing loss but I simply could not find any way to cover $5K of uncovered expenses. I was then informed they would be "all over us" until we did this because if I didn't get my hearing corrected, I would become depressed. No..I wasn't going to let my husband be demeaned or harassed, he felt bad enough that our limited income couldn't handle this. I left the office, never to return. Multiple visits a week at over $200 per visit ($40-50 co-pay) When they could have shown me the eppley maneuvers the first visit. Profits over patients. Endocrinology... complete and total joke. Many act in an unprofessional manner. Several Monday Morning appts cancelled last minute... one while we were on our way to Sayre. I didn't get a feeling they cared even a little bit except to collect a co-payment for a 5 min visit every 3 months, if I missed one I was threatened with not getting scripts for my diabetic supplies, metformin, insulin and delivery devices. The Diabetes Nurse Educator in my experience has always been in a tizzy. Getting an appt took months, even then she had no clue why I was there. Pushed the latest and greatest insulin pump then announced we would have a $2K co-pay which we could not afford. She then proceeded to demean my spouse who already worked 7 days a week... if we cared enough about my health we would come up with it. Well, if she had bothered to check with our insurance, we had a rider that covered diabetes 100% Medtronics discovered that. We went forward through medtronics, got the pump and 1 hr after the delivery of the device, I got a call cancelling my appt to start setting up and using the device, another appt was not to be had for 4-6 mos. See a trend here? Guthrie quite possibly gets sizable payments from the medical industry for prescribing devices, meds, surgeries...etc I could be wrong, but based on my family's experience it's very plausible. Don't pay your bill in such a way that this month a payment arrives on the 2nd of the month, and then send a payment that arrives on the 30th of the month... because if you fail to make a payment next calendar month... they will send you to their collection agency. Unbeknownst to us, I had them send a balance of less than 0.50 to their own collection agency ( another income stream)... yes less than 50 cents, because we didn't know or get any communication... it sat there and yes they reported it to the credit agencies.... the check amount was read differently than what it was written for. My credit was dinged, upon contacting all the major credit reporting agencies... they investigated and within 48 hrs all 3 removed the report and eventually restored my credit. Profits over patients. Misdiagnosis galore... misdiagnosis means more visits and more $$ for them. I know that every system, most all providers someone will have an issue with, however that said... it's been with every specialty. Guthrie overall fails to realize I choose my physicians/NP's/PA's if they happen to be part of a larger group... fine. That group isn't the entity who decides who treats me. I no longer have any association with Guthrie Medical. In the event of a medical emergency I may not have a choice but to be taken to Robert Packard/Guthrie. But I will be questioning diagnosis etc. My family has simply had too many misdiagnosis come out of the ER, one of them being shingles... 3 times misdiagnosed and by the time it was correctly diagnosed it had gotten into the eye. read more

Think twice if you can go elsewhere. I feel they are a large greedy corp. We have 4 kids, we do not reserve any welfare foodstamps anything. MY husband is self employed and we had a delay in his commission check. I was unable to make my monthly $170 payment to orthodontics so on day 21 they turned me over to collections and the collection agency immediatley put it on my credit report. Day 22 I paid the $170 but a few months later when we needed a business loan we were declined for having a recent collection account, even though we had been paying Guthrie every month. Guthrie refuses to get the account back from collections and off our credit reports. We are now struggling financially since we could not get the loan we needed. Then to make it worse I always call and authorize the monthly payment on my debit card, last month they went ahead and took $170 at random and over drew my bank account I now owe my bank over $300 in fees. I can't get any help and no one there cares about the situation they placed my family in, the total bill owed when they sent me to collection was just over $800, having already paid out over $8k for 2 children to get braces and retainers over the last 2 years. read more
