From the Business
Specialties
Götaplatsens Foto has been Gothenburg's go-to camera and photo specialist since 1965 — over 60 years on Kungsportsavenyn, right in the heart of the city. Unlike chain stores, we're an independent specialist with real expertise. Our staff are passionate photographers who know their gear and take the time to help you find exactly what you need — whether you're buying your first camera or your tenth lens. We carry one of Sweden's widest selections of cameras, lenses, binoculars and accessories from Canon, Nikon, Sony, Fujifilm, Leica, Hasselblad and more. We also have a curated range of used equipment in excellent condition. What truly sets us apart is our in-house lab. We develop analog film — colour (C-41), black & white, and slide film (E-6) — and produce digital prints, canvas, photo books, calendars and custom photo gifts, most within one hour. We also take professional ID photos for passports, driving licences and visas, no appointment needed. Six decades of personal service, expert advice and genuine passion for photography — all in one store on Avenyn.
History
Established in 1965.
Götaplatsens Foto opened its doors on December 22, 1965, on Kungsportsavenyn — Gothenburg's grand boulevard inspired by the Champs-Élysées. The store took its name from the nearby Götaplatsen square, one of the city's most iconic landmarks. Over six decades the store has weathered every shift in photography — the transition from film to digital, the smartphone era, and the recent analog revival — remaining independent throughout while most competitors either closed or were absorbed by chains. Today it is one of the last dedicated photography specialists in Gothenburg, still on the same street where it started.
