Günter's is a fantastic little sausage stand in a mostly-residential section of Vasastan. There always seems to be a bit of a line, but it moves quickly. Günter's has a wide variety of sausages, which are served on baguettes with chimichurri, sauerkraut, hojhoj sauce (a slightly spicy sauce), and mustard. Rather than cut the baguette in half, they drill a hole in the middle, and then fill it with the sausage and toppings, which makes for a neat eating experience without condiments dripping out of the side of the bun. All of the ingredients seem to be high quality, and the chimichurri is an amazing compliment to the sausage. (I always get the sausage with everything, but the chimichurri stands out.) I've been to Günter's at least four times over multiple trips to Stockholm. I've liked everything I've eaten there, but I don't have a standard sausage I order. Best hotdog ever! Worth any wait and line. We didn't know what to order so asked for the most popular order and got the Enkel Korv with Kabanoss + Tillbehor (50 SEK + 5 SEK). It's an enormous sausage in a baguette with some magical pesto-like herbal sauce in between. PS. I wish we got the double Kabanoss with everything, would've been worth the 70 SEK. read more

Excellent. Worth the wait. People start to get tense as they approach the sausage hut--because sometimes they've been waiting a long time. But the mood lightens as soon as they order. I waited 30 minutes on my beautiful fall Saturday. It's not the absolute best I've ever had (Andersen Bakery in Tivoli, Copenhagen, Old Town Salzburg sausage cart, and the just opened Hairy Pig in Old Town Stockholm hold top spots). Be prepared to pick out which sausage you'd like and maybe have a backup sausage, just in case they are sold out of the one you think you want. A lot of reviewers mentioned Torsien or Thorsien (bottom, second from left of their menu poster). That was great, thick, and juicy. I wanted the chorizo, but it was sold out. Fortunately, I had a backup ready: the cabaneros which is a longer skinnier sausage folded double to fit into the baguette. It was not as legendarily good like the Tursien (i'm going to spell it this way now to be safe). The fellow working there spoke a wee bit of English--and certainly everyone in line did. If you say yes to everything he says, it seems the sausage will automatically come: -grilled on a press -stuffed in baguette roll (slightly chewy for french standards) -stuffed with saurkraut (pretty darn good) -with mustard (called senap), but no ketchup unless you ask -with chimichurri, and -with a hot sauce Dare I say one korv was a bit too big even for me to comfortably finish? But I did so anyway, under the justification of food tourism. Hey, a huge gym steroidal viking guy was eating one, and he was not going so fast on it either. The line is pretty much all male. Like going to a NFL game. Eventually I saw two women in line who were pregnant (with their husbands), and no one let them cut. So, it's a very male friendly line, shall we say. Even in Stockholm, in the neighborhood, bemused passebys would smile at the people in line and sometimes point and wonder. Simple and delicious. The mrs and I stopped by the unassuming stand in the middle of the burbs north of downtown Stockholm and were both happy with this hot dog. We got the Kabanos with comes wrapped in a baguette with some sauerkraut and other condiments on the inside. The taste is a nice mix of sour, meaty deliciousness with a crunch from the toasted baguette. The menu is pretty easy to read, and you can choose many different meats and I assume different condiments. The gentleman manning the stand seems to not speak much english but was friendly enough. There is a reason why this stand always seems to have a queue, cause a quick, cheap and delicious hot dog is all you really need really. Worth a trip up north! read more

Exactly what I was looking for! A hearty, delicious, cheap meal in Sweden. I ordered the Kabanos with everything and it was definitely worth the 70kr. The double sausage (I think they take one and cut it into two to fit into the baguette) had a great snap. The sauerkraut and sauces added great flavor (a little sour, a little spicy, a lot of flavor). I love the idea of hollowing out a baguette to fill it with meat and condiments. It held up really well and didn't get messy. There were a couple people ahead of us, but the line moved quickly. If I have a chance to come back I would also order the CooCoo (spelling?) - I think it's like chocolate milk. read more

This is a tiny, one-time man operated hot dog stand near Vasastan. It was about a 7-min walk from the nearest train station, but the stand itself was randomly located in a neighborhood street. Solely the sausage was probably the best I've ever had. We ordered the kabanoss (which seemed to be the go-to for everyone) and the paprika. When I bit into the casing, the sausage was so juicy and the flavors were amazing. Top that with kraut, ketchup,mustard and some special house sauce - it was absolutely perfect. I'm not a huge fan of kraut usually but I'd say it's very different from any other one I've tried. Get everything! read more

Probably the best sausages in the world. Only problem is that they are closed evenings and Sundays. Always a 15 minute wait for lunches, but trust me, it's worth it. Make sure you get all the sauces and sauerkraut in your bun. Also goes well with a Pucko chocolate drink. read more

I lived next to this insituition. If you live in Stockholm, you have definitely visited dozens of run of the mill hotdog stands. Poor you. I cry a little every time I eat any hotdog that isn't from gunter's. At 50 sek to start off, this classic sausage in a baguette its definitely a bang for your kronor. But my tip would be to go straight for a double kabanoss sausage for 70 sek and enter dreamland. I have tried more than 10 different types of sausages and finally decided on Kabanoss. Every. Single. First, let me start off by saying the line was well down the street when we arrived at around noon and stayed that way even when leaving at around 14:00. The sausages themselves lived up to the hype. Super delicious and juicy. We took one Österrikisk bratwurst and one sucuk, both doubles, and added mustard, chimichuri, bostongurka (relish), pickles and syrkål (sauerkraut). I waited in line for 20 minutes for this sausage. So worth it. I hate to objectify food, but this was one fine piece of meat. Gunter runs a dope booth a quick walk from maintown Stockholm, slinging 25 different types of ground, blended, meat tube perfection. The Stockholm youth were lined down the street to grab this cheap delicacy. I got Gunter's hometown favorite, the Kabanoss, and I made it double to ensure I got the full experience. It's a dense, flavorful, spicy, herbal blend of fine Eastern European meats. The consistency and mouthfeel is ideal: no bite obstructions by fats or byproducts in this sausage. On the contrary, the skin beautifully snaps under just the right amount of jaw pressure, releasing a joyous cacophony reminiscent of Budapest's outdoor spice bazaars. The sausages are embraced by the perfect depth of crispy baguette, garlicky and herbal aromatic spice blend, along with some sauerkraut to add to the digestive quality of this exotic and heartwarming street food. Oh yeah, this is the place. Double kavanoss with all the fixins. Two hot, spicy sausages stuffed into a roll with what seemed like sundried tomato relish, dijon mustard, sauerkraut, and maybe more. Nice hot dogs with a big selection of spicy Central European ones. Easily the best I've had in Sweden, maybe anywhere. Only problem is the VERY long lines which while indicating its popularity, also means it's probably the longest you have to wait for lunch anywhere in this part of Stockholm. He should open a bigger sit down place and become rich. read more

They were in Swedish and I wasn't looking for much more anyways.) Order: Thüringer and Merquez. Ketchup for sauce (!) Experience: worth it! Sausage was sooooo good and the baguette made them even better! Found this place after watching two YouTube videos of locals touring their city. Location is away from tourist areas. It's a couple of blocks from the T Banna station (Saint Eriksplan??). We enjoyed walking through the residential area. Nice to see a little of what it's like. We arrived around 1:30pm to find only two people in line. It was a rainy day so maybe that helped as well as being after the lunch hour? The sausages are pictured on a poster on the right side. Everything is in Swedish. I recognized names based on previous reviews. I went with the two based on these reviews. (I took a picture and later looked up what we ate - veal and lamb.) I believe the reason it takes so long is that the sausages are not pre cooked. He pulled them from the refrigerator and placed them on the grill press. Ketchup was squirted into the hollowed out center of the baguette. The sausages were placed in after being cooked and then a little more of the ketchup. Our server/cook/cashier seemed a little shocked when I said no Swedish and then when I said no hot sauce. We communicated well enough to get it done. The gentleman who came behind us spoke perfect English and asked how and why we came. For the experience and good food. I would definitely try this street food if you don't mind the wait and the minimal communication (use simple words, point, count with fingers...if all else fails, somebody around you might help). Someone posted the sausage poster on here and hopefully that will help. If you want to go to this place and want to know what you're getting, I suggest doing some research first.
