This place stressed me out. I am not a huge shopping fan to begin with and I wouldn't say I'm the most fashionable person, but I know H&M stocks great basic wear at a decent price. It is so hard sometimes to just find great basics! When I visited Melbourne I made it a point to stop by H&M. The first time I was so overwhelmed, I didn't know what I had gotten myself into! Multiple floors and rooms - it was nuts! So I walked out the first time empty handed and feeling completely overwhelmed. Here's a pro-tip: plan a day here or half a day, especially if you're not local (like me). I ended up going back a few days later before I left Melbourne and went through every single floor and room. I found the best fitting jeans of my life here, and a couple of great basic tops! I do wish they had online shopping though - like I said before I'm not a huge fan of shopping in general. Crowds overwhelm me and I would much rather shop from home in my pajamas :) Also a side note: you're not allowed to take photos in the shop?! I had my DSLR camera strapped around my neck and I had a security guard approach me and tell me I was not allowed to have it in the shop and that if I was caught taking photos they'd ask me to leave. I asked why and they said those are just the rules. Fair enough, it's private property and I understand photography laws - but then I looked over and saw a girl taking photos on her phone and I asked why she was allowed to take photos. He said phone photos were allowed but not "professional photos" :| Like, what am I going to do with my DSLR images of the inside of H&M? Blow them up and make prints of them and make mad profit from selling the images? Lol. read more

Finally, an international retailer that hasn't slapped on a prohibitive Australia Tax, rendering things more expensive than they should be *cough Apple cough* and making us cry into our breakfast cereal. I made a special trip here last time I was in Melbourne to make hay and blow bills on their cheap, well-fitting schtuff. Seriously, why does their stuff fit so good? It's like the size model was my identical twin. I can grab any Medium and it fits like a glove. I can even grab any glove and they too fit like a glove. Well laid out store, super friendly staff and a great range to suit all. I was here on opening morning. Nuts I know but worth it. The staff were really helpful with bags, finding sizes and generally being awesome. Despite the literally hundreds of people bustling around the store was kept neat and tidy. Love the way they have utilised the space in the GPO. Each of the three levels has a check out points. Make sure you get to level three and find the secret stash of home wares. I'm a huge fan of H&M. I often am able to purchase decent clothing at great prices. They have wide variety, some of the items may not be of the best quality, so you do get what you pay for. If you do however spend just that little bit extra you are able to find some great staples for your wardrobe. I love love love their home ware section and have bought some lovely knick knacks and manchester from that section. We often pop in their just before the start of a new season and spend up so our wardrobe is stocked. I love how they have items that are not so usually seen on the streets. H&M is my Happy Place. Oh and I just love their staff, they work tirelessly but are always so helpful and friendly. read more

H&M, a new shopping place which opened at Melbourne's GPO building, is a eye-gouging store filled with amazing products for reasonable prices. It doesn't disappoint when the need for new clothes, or a completely new outfit, arises and it surely doesn't disappoint when you finally take your products over to the areas to pay and you see the bill that you are required to pay. When I first heard about H&M I never fully understood the reason as to why people are queuing up for the store. I figured to myself that it would be one of those shops that are incredibly overpriced and is unaffordable for the average consumer. Contrary to my knowledge it turns out to be the ONE AND ONLY store that I can consider myself in love with. Now I realise falling in love with a physical building is quite weird or in some cases taboo.... *ehem* Objectophilia. But I have found this store quite pleasing when it comes to my clothing needs. Over the last few weeks I have visited this store numerous amounts of times hoping to 'browse' their products, only to find out that I am walking out of the store with a bag, or two, of fine products which has now made its way to my daily fashion. The prices of H&M is, quite frankly, staggering. Men's clothing ranges from singlets which are prices around about $7 all the way to the most expensive blazer which will set you back $150. Women, on the other hand, have many more options which ranges from a staggering $6 (which let's face it is the norm for most women's clothing anyways) to a whopping $450 (which quite frankly is absurd and should never have been stocked at the place. But hey if someone's happy to pay that much for a dress then so be it haha) The quality is also something to talk about. From the products that I have bought over the few trips I have had to H&M I have found them to be of up most quality. The clothes feel great, and you won't find loose threads on the clothing which ends up unravelling just like the clothes I bought from DFO stores (or maybe I was just incredibly unlucky). The accessories, such as the shoes I bought, feels great on the feet and although it is still going through its breaking-in process I can say that these will be the shoes I will most likely wear whenever I go out, socially or formally. Overall H&M is the new go-to place to shop for new clothes. This new store has got amazing fashion, amazing quality and most of all amazing prices. HUGE store inside the gorgeous GPO building. Love that prices are along the lines of H&M's worldwide (unlike the Zara's & Top Shops of Australia), good range but the staff could brush up on their stock knowledge. I'd found a dress online and the first couple of employees I spoke to had no idea and sent me to the change rooms and then upstairs to no avail. I then spoke to a guy who said sometimes stock comes online before stores. If you've never been to H&M, they have an awesome cheap range of basics & jeans, a wide range of dresses, casual and office wear amongst others! Women's, men's and kids too! Hmm some good finds i think. It's a great fit-out and building inside, but due to the overwhelming amount of people choking the store, it's a little hard to do anything when you're constantly dodging people every which way, and fighting your way through impossible crowds. Ridiculously huge queue for the cash resisters, and so when there's so much waiting involved for anything as well as a draining experience to shop or walk without being interrupted through the store, that it's ulttimately not worth it. read more

I've shopped in a few H&M stores around the world before and they've always been great for a few cheap bits of clothing when you're running low on clean clothes in your suitcase and spending a morning at a laundromat is just unthinkable, so when I heard that Melbourne was getting one, I knew that I'd stop in there sooner or later. I really don't understand why people lined up for so long to get in here, but once the lines died down and we happened to be passing by we headed inside. It was still busy, but the deals were good and the clothing looks to be good quality too. The layout of the store is a little confusing, especially for the menswear section. Once you head to the third floor you can't even see where it is, hidden behind the children's section, and then there are nooks and crannies and little rooms everywhere, with clothes all over the place and no easy way to find what you're looking for. I was after a new jacket and they aren't all in one place, they're in every place. The prices were good enough to bring me back once they hype has died down even more. H&M isn't worth lining up for, but it is worth checking out still. Just don't go in needing to go to the toilet...there isn't one to be found for customers anywhere on their three floors! read more

Ethical fast-fashion is an oxymoron, but H&M does do it better than all other giant retail chain stores. Though they don't own factories (and so can't guarantee worker rights and conditions) they do participate in initiatives to ensure ethical treatment of employees, and they support unions. Some of the clothing is made with (I won't say sustainable because fast-fashion by its very definition can't be sustainable) less harmful environmental practices such as recycles materials and water saving methods. Again, they don't have the best practices, but they do have practices which are better than other large chain stores. Though I have been a long-time shopper at H&M (it's been in North America for a good decade now), I have recently become very impressed with the children and baby clothes. Lots of items are made with organic cotton, which is difficult to find in baby clothes. As you would expect from H&M there are lots of fun prints and patterns in their necessities (socks, onesies, etc) and well as decadent for-fun items (because my baby will definitely need a hot pink tutu and a faux fur vest a la North West). The building as well is absolutely beautiful. Even if you aren't shopping for a man or a baby, be sure to check out the top floor, just for the gorgeous view of the entire store. From there, you can also see the details in the ceiling carvings, and they are gorgeous. It kind of feels like going to church, while shopping! Bonus! read more

I was here just after they opened when you still had to line up to get in. Lining up to get into a store seems like such a stupid idea but it didn't disappoint. Just like the stores in the States, this H&M is HUGE, spanned over a couple of levels with lots of different areas. You'll find clothing and accessories for men, women & children and something to wear in the office, the bedroom, to lunch or a night out. And everything is really well priced. You could easily spend an hour or more browsing and I'd be surprised if you manage to leave empty handed! read more

I love visiting this H&M it's so big and the vibes are great! Only down side is that I cannot find anything plus size. Visiting other H&M stores I'm able to find up to sometimes a 3X whereas the Burke street one I can't find a thing past XL. Usually I can squeeze into them but just so disappointed I can't find anything larger. I'm not sure if they're being purposely hidden from the public as many brands do- don't want larger people wearing their clothes which sucks. I have always been a big fan of H&M. When i found out it was opening in Melbourne i was so excited. This store is great for everyone men, women and children and the store is HUGE but oh my it does get really busy. That can be a little bit frustrating when your trying to push through through a crowd of people having a conversation around the jeans section. The decor is fantastic and the store is spread across a couple of levels. Everything is decently priced and there are always sales on some items. I could easily spend the day in H&M. read more

I have been to H&M a few times now & every time it just stresses me out! I am a big fan of H&M & love all their overseas stores but the one in Melbourne is just packed full of clothes, customers & staff. I actually find myself struggling to breath at times, yes dramatic but seriously not the retail therapy I look for when shopping. The place is simply stunning & I could look up at the ceilings for hours, the staff seem friendly enough & the clothes are very reasonably priced aside from of course anything I actually like, always the way though. Maybe I will wait another few months for the hype to die down & give it another shot. read more

Not impressed at all, I think 1 star is very generous for such a horrible experience. You will probably have to line up to get in, I'm fine with that and the wait wasn't too long. The actual store has an extensive range of clothing but don't expect any sale assistance, especially asking for additional sizes. They have 100's of people in the store at a time, yet only a few sizes on the racks, maybe 1 item per a size and missing a few sizes. We asked twice if we could get a different size and were treated like idiots by some hipster, exactly what's this guys job? I understand that theres a lot of people in your store H&M but can't you at least make sure you have a range of sizes (that I know you stock) on your racks. People are waiting 20-30mins to get into your store, 30mins + for the fitting room and you can't make sure your customers have your full range of sizes at their disposal? So after the shocking services my hubby and I went to pay, yay! We got hubby a couple of lovely cashmere sweaters, NICE! However, after waiting in line to be served (cool with it) we get served by a 'lovely' hipster (sarcasm) with very little customer service skills, we asked again about why they don't have a range of sizes on their racks with no reply, he then literally SMASHED the sweaters in front of us trying to get the alarm thing off for 5 mins, then without folding the items he STUFFS them into the bag. Hello, we just spent $400 at your stupid store can you please fold the clothes, I don't expect it to be folded properly but just the norm you would find at any other clothing store. HE ACTUALLY JUST THREW IT IN THE BAG. Whatever, what a crap experience. I'm not even a fussy person lol. We went to uniqlo after H&M and I wished we went there first, for male clothes uniqlo has a great range, H&M have better mens jackets but I'm not sure I want to support this company until they hire people who are nicer and start treating customers like customers and not cash cows. I don't know how you run your business overseas but in Australia people are nice, if you ask for a size you're not treated like an idiot. H&M has a beautiful location, great range but you still need to treat customers with a bit of respect! Maybe you should stop hiring hipsters and start hiring nice people. The saving grace of this packed to the gills, badly designed, and stressful as all get out H and M is the maternity section. It's very well priced ( a tiny fraction of the cost of smaller chains like Ripe) and I was happy to find basic maternity tights for only 8 dollars, among other bargains. Good range of kids wear and athletic wear as well, though I'm not so keen on their straight "fashion", perhaps because I'm slowly ageing out of their key demographic (though I still love Topshop so maybe it's something else). I've been in many an H and M overseas and this is certainly one of the most unpleasant....The design of the store is claustrophobic and narrow. Despite being housed in the lovely old GPO building they haven't utilised the space well and everything is totally packed together like sardines and hard to navigate. The lines for the dressing room run 15 minutes on a weekday afternoon and dressing rooms themselves are not attended to: Expect hairballs the size of a Huntsman spider and the detritus of someone's Subway lunch to litter the floor as as you try on clothes. Huge lines follow at the cash registers and there are no salespeople on the floor at all. I think I saw a total of 7 staff on a packed Friday evening. Still, it is cheap. For me, H and M Bourke Street remains a necessary evil. read more

This is the biggest H&M I've ever been in - it truly is massive even compared to some of the New York City stores - with 3 floors and a large selection from women to children to home. It's also set in an old post office with some original features intact. Definitely stop in. It gets busy but if you're in the mood to shop you can find something here. read more

Having lived in Edinburgh for the past few years, H&M was my go-to store for workwear and jeans - being cheaper than Mango (hands-down favourite clothes shop) and better quality than Primark it was an easy choice. Now I'm back home again in Melbourne, having a H&M within minutes of my work is very, very dangerous! So far, they're doing better with standardised sizing over their UK counterparts, and $30 for a pair of trousers or a collared shirt for workwear is very reasonable. I do feel the stock layout is a bit haphazard, though I guess they have to work with the design of the GPO. All in all, it's great to have one so near again, they just need to get a wriggle on and have their online store setup for purchases! read more

Very massive store in the heart of the CBD, it's also quite snazzy on the exterior. You're greeted by mannequins hanging from the ceiling in the latest fashions. I came in with the intentions of getting two tank tops and a maxi skirt. I had no idea how massive and vast the selections would be, pleasantly surprised! I left with three rompers, two dresses, three tops and two pair of shorts. Mercy. Don't ask me how I'm going to find space in my suitcase for them! Since it is summer here, there were a few sales going on, much to my pleasure. I went midday on Monday, and it was still crowded. Be prepared for extremely long lines for the fitting rooms, I have never seen anything like it. The fitting rooms are coed, I found the one on the men's floor to move quicker. Staff were friendly and efficient. Definitely drop in and visit them. read more

Busy store, busy staff and a massive queue for the change rooms...only one visit here and you will see why. The clothes fit, the clothes are comfortable and the clothes look good. They have everything here from tops and bottoms, shoes and socks, underwear and accessories, as well as fitness wear. It's all here and it's all cheap. A wonderful place to find clothes as long as you're happy to spend a few extra minutes lining up to try it on and to buy it...but I promise, it's worth the wait. read more

I have just been to HM store today 17/12 here in Melbourne and had a very unpleasant experience with their manager's service recovery. I was gonna buy this black blazer shirt that I thought was $30 (with tag on full price of $39.94) size 10. But ended up not.What was interesting here, They have a size 6 of the same jacket tagged for $30 SALE! I asked the lady manager if i can have the same amount coz obviously they are same product however different sizes--Out of my surprise she said NO and she cant coz that size is taged as it is. If i was her I couldve given it the same sale price to the customer bec its Christmas anyway plus I do not see the point of having the other one on sale and not the other size SO STUPID PEOPLE!!, why do u have to fool your customers with pricing "Cmon!HM!! Yes They have great clothes but BE CAREFUL and BE wise when you shop here,they mislead customers by their tags and sale prices PLUS-- few people here can be very unpleasant.
