I have used H&R Block in the past with no complications so I felt confident in having them prepare this year's returns. When I called to set up my appointment on Friday I informed the receptionist that my best days were mid-week and mornings if possible. I was pleased to find that even with such short notice, there were plenty of times to choose from that following week. I made my appointment for a Wednesday morning and showed up about 10 minutes early. From the street the building looks a little shady, but was clean and bright inside. The office is small, but adequate. Large banners separate about four "cubical" areas on the main floor space for each of the tax preparers. There were a couple actual offices along the wall, but I did not get one of those. At almost exactly 9:00am (my appointment slot) a lady came out of the office and took me over to a section with the banners. It was fairly straight forward from there. I was shown everything that she was doing via a second screen that mirrored the one she was working with. It was a simple matter of numbers entry and making sure all my information was correct. We mixed a bit of small talk in with the boring parts and were done about 20 minutes later. I was disappointed in the amount of my return, but you can't blame the tax guys for that. Since they are required to tell you the maximum amount of time it could take to get your return, I was told 21 days. I was then told that they have already had clients call back and say they received their deposit within 8 days. As I dug out my wallet to pay, I thought to myself that $167 seems a little spendy, especially when there are free services and computer programs. I guess I just feel better knowing that if someone screws up with H&R, they own up to it and make it right. read more
