I engaged Mark Scott (Tax Preparer and Manager, H&R Block - Hayden, ID) to prepare my 2025 taxes. He was well aware of the importance of this particular return due to a large transaction that I intentionally hired him the year before to establish a working relationship ahead of time. I had all my documentation uploaded by March 11, 2026, well ahead of the filing deadline, with the goal of filing early. He confirmed receipt and promised to start within the week. That promise was broken, along with several follow-up promises of a completed return. Finally, on April 11th, a full month after submission -- with only four days left before the deadline -- I was forced to find a new preparer with the skill and availability to finish my return on time. When I raised these concerns with franchise owner Ruth Udager, she declined to take any responsibility on behalf of her employee. Her "apology" was limited to being sorry that I was upset. Worse still was the response from H&R Block Corporate. I attempted to escalate the matter to the District Manager and was told the only way to reach them was to file a formal complaint. I gave a detailed account to a corporate representative. Seven to ten days later, that case number could not be located, and a new case was opened. One case was closed without any follow-up, and the second was never located or resolved. I was never given the opportunity to speak with a District Manager, despite multiple attempts. The end result was rushing to file on the morning of April 15th while trying to figure out how to properly pay a large tax bill -- an extremely stressful process. Even a few days' delay could have meant significant penalties and interest. The most disturbing part wasn't the failure at the preparer or franchise level -- it was the complete lack of response from Corporate. I spent considerable time submitting a complaint through their exact required process and never heard back from anyone. I filed a complaint with the BBB and will be submitting a formal complaint to the tax agencies involved. Note to HR Block corporate who will invariably respond asking me to contact them. I already spent considerable time trying to do that. You have my contact info. If I could give zero stars review, I would. Beware - do not use H&R Block in Hayden!! Save yourself the pain and frustration. First of all, they do not return phone calls after leaving multiple messages during operating hours. I finally had to go into the office to speak to someone about an error they made in my 2025 tax return. I had received letters from the IRS saying I owed, when I actually already authorized H&R Block to have the funds taken from my bank account. Turns out H&R Block made a typo on my bank account number to the Feds, which in turn denied my payment, causing late fees/penalties/interest. When I pointed this out to the manager, Jennifer Williams, she said "we are human and humans make errors", but never apologized for the error, instead she turned it on me and said "I'm sorry for YOUR frustration". Really?! The full situation is way too long to type, but after meeting with her the first time (with no resolve), she asked me to come back in a week, which I did. And when I arrived for that 2nd appointment, she says "what are we doing for you today", as if she had no recollection of our previous meeting. I said "you don't remember me from last week?" and she responded with "I see lots of customers, and I had a busy weekend" Well, that set the tone for the meeting which did not end well. Her final solution was to go to, or call, the Spokane IRS office and try to get an appointment with them to rectify a situation that H&R Block created. I just packed up my paperwork and walked out. As I walked out she had the nerve to say "Have a nice day". To which I responded with choice words and then she told me to not come back. Footnote: I tried to be reasonable, as I do understand mistakes happen, in fact my line of work is in customer service, so I get it. I just wanted my 2025 tax returns fixed and H&R Block clearly does not stand behind what is printed on their flyer... "We sign and stand behind every return we prepare." A total joke. read more

If I could, I would give 0 Stars. I scheduled myself online to see a Pro Tax Agent. I was scheduled with Jacqueline Ball. She seemed very agitated to even help me. She asked questions and when I answered everything, she was aggressive in nature as though I was trying to lie. I don't know the tax laws that is why I go the specialists. Example: She asked did you by a new car. I smiled and said yes, I did. I then told her it was a 2024 Blah Blah Blah, she cut me off and told me, "Well is that a 2025 and did you drive it off the lot brand new with a zero on the odometer!" then "you don't qualify for a tax break." I simply answered her question. (?) I don't watch the news; I am not a tax agent. Yet anything I said was twisted and rudely thrown back in my face with such hate and aggression to the point I finally stopped and refrained from any extra conversation. Everything I stated was wrong. She was quick to rush me out the door in 20 min to go home and get my last paystub as my OT wasn't showing on the W2. Also letting me know her next client had an extensive account, but she would fit me in briefly. So what happened to my scheduled hour? When I came back from printing my proof of OT with multiple paystubs, as my recruiting company has a weird way of reporting, I simply tried to explain I thought it odd that my W2 was short 8 days of pay for 2025. She kept informing me previously she only wanted to hear about 2025 things. When I tried to show her, she looked at me with stern shaking lips stating, "I don't care what you have there, I am only going to look at the 2025 reported wages." I am so confused. She had me go home and print out paystubs as the W2 was lacking OT payroll on them and yet if I say 8 days of payroll is missing, I am met with aggression and attitude. I grabbed my W2s and walked out the door letting her know I will see someone who wants to be kind and do my taxes. I told her she was nasty. I also informed the receptionist she (Jacqueline) needed to quit her job, and they need to hire someone who isn't nasty and rude to people. This was only 2 examples of a person who in a short amount of time did nothing but engage with aggression for no reason. I felt like I was supposed to be a Tax Pro and be able to read her mind. Because I didn't, she was short, rude, and aggressive as though I was beneath her. She needs to retire if she hates her job so much and stop taking it out on clients who are coming and paying good money for services they need. read more

I will just tell you exactly what happened and you can decide for yourself whether to do business here. 1.) Their online appointment system is a complete joke. I made two different appointments, only to receive a call from the manager to tell me those times were not available, which pushed things closer and closer to the tax deadline. 2.) I eventually got a real appointment several days before the tax deadline. I tried to complete the online pre-registration to make sure I'd be ready, but the system gave me nothing but error messages. 3.) I finally met with a tax representative and gave all relevant information except for two documents that I did not have. I submitted them electronically later that same day and was told I'd be contacted to "wrap things up" (before the tax deadline) in a couple days. 4.) They have signs all over their office stating that they will give you a quote for services before moving forward. I never received any sort of quote or estimate of charges of any kind. 5.) After a few days, I emailed the representative to check on the status of my returns and received no reply. 6.) I let about a week pass, and I was never contacted by anyone. I rightly guessed that they were going to completely fail me and decided to have someone else look at my taxes. I had to file an extension (late) and pay penalties for being late, thanks to H&R Block. 7.) Now it has been nearly 3 weeks and I still have not been contacted by anyone at H&R Block for any sort of follow-up. If not for the fact that I took my taxes to someone else to file an extension, I'd be racking up additional late penalties, thanks to H&R Block. 8.) I know they are busy around tax time, but they should have been realistic and simply filed extensions for me before the deadline to buy them more time to deliver on their promises. By overpromising and under-delivering, they have made a lifetime critic out of me. I will never consider going back to H&R Block. read more

If I could give a negative star, I would. Customer service is atrocious. I have a serious issue going on right now with the IRS and an annuity company. I need help immediately. When I called their CDA office last week, it took several days to receive a return call and to be told I needed to call the Hayden office. I called there yesterday, and was told Amy would call me back. No return call came. I had to call back today, and eventually she came on the line. As I tried to explain my circumstances, she continually kept curtly interrupting me, snapped at me and sounded extremely impatient, irritated and dismissive. It was clear, she did not want to hear about my case. Finally, during one of her abrasive interruptions, I got so frustrated, I said "Damn it!", wanting to be able to finish even one sentence. She screamed at me, "Don't you talk to me like that!". I said "Fine, I will get somebody else." This was extremely juvenile, shameful conduct on her part. Apparently, in her unprofessional, trite little mind, it is perfectly "acceptable" for her to treat me rudely, and expect me not to finally get fed up and react. One of their associates had done my taxes last year, and I had even paid for the "protection plan", in the event I had issues. I got a letter recently from the IRS and I paid taxes that evidently, according to my banker, I didn't even owe. This needs to be resolved. HOWEVER, I WILL NEVER DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY AGAIN. I read the reviews, and I am hardly alone in my sentiments regarding them. I am an elderly senior citizen woman, and I need assistance in such matters. To be ABUSED by a petty, belligerent associate is completely intolerable. I RECOMMEND ANY OTHER TAX PREPARATION SERVICE IN CDA/HAYDEN. The Hayden office needs some lessons in courtesy, professionalism, and to GROW UP! read more
