I am writing this review to warn others about the serious issues I've encountered with H&R Block Lake Orion, MI office and their so-called 'Peace of Mind' guarantee. I used H&R Block for my 2021 federal tax preparation and paid extra for this guarantee, believing it would protect me from mistakes. The shocking truth is that H&R Block failed to file my 2021 federal return entirely. Even worse, neither H&R Block nor the IRS notified me of this. I only discovered their failure two years later, in 2023, while using AI software to prepare for filing on my own. This was not an IRS discovery; I found H&R Block's negligence. Because of their failure to file, I was eventually assessed significant penalties and interest by the IRS. The total amount due, directly because of H&R Block's error, is $6,183.22. After I brought this to H&R Block's attention (Case #22405539), and after significant effort on my part, they finally acknowledged their error. However, their response has been insulting. They offered a mere $456 as compensation, despite the 'Peace of Mind' guarantee promising to cover up to $6,000 in additional taxes due to their mistakes, and cover penalties and interest. This offer doesn't even cover 10% of the damage they caused. I am pursuing all available avenues to resolve this, including legal action and complaints to consumer protection agencies. I reside in Washington DC yet I insist on filing my taxes with Mrs. Michele Mclean-Rose. I can walk into any office in DC and see someone face to face. However, in person or online, no one can beat Michele. She is hands-down the best tax prepare I have had in my over 20 years of filing taxes! I have rental property in VA, moved into DC, have some investments, and got married this year. I failed to file some paperwork last year that had an negative effect on my taxes this year. Michele, went out of her way to call VA and DC tax offices to make sure she everything she could. I even recommended my little sister (also a DC resident) to use Mrs. Michele. If that's not a solid recommendation to refer family to her, I don't know what is. read more

As a "snowbird" client, I send in my backup paperwork (W4s, etc) to the H & R Block office in Lapeer. I should have access to all of my back up paperwork when I return home to MI in May. Lapeer offices are closed and there's no way I can get MY OWN DOCUMENTS.(according to numerous phone conversations I have had when I call the Lapeer, Saginaw, Flint and Burton offices) I paid over $360 for simple (not business or self-employed) tax prep. They have been preparing my taxes for over 5 years, and this is the first (and last) time that I couldn't get my backup paperwork returned to me. I will be finding another tax prep company that can return my private, personal documents to me. read more
