I am writing this review to warn others about the serious issues I've encountered with H&R Block…read moreLake Orion, MI office and their so-called 'Peace of Mind' guarantee. I used H&R Block for my 2021 federal tax preparation and paid extra for this guarantee, believing it would protect me from mistakes. The shocking truth is that H&R Block failed to file my 2021 federal return entirely. Even worse, neither H&R Block nor the IRS notified me of this. I only discovered their failure two years later, in 2023, while using AI software to prepare for filing on my own. This was not an IRS discovery; I found H&R Block's negligence. Because of their failure to file, I was eventually assessed significant penalties and interest by the IRS. The total amount due, directly because of H&R Block's error, is $6,183.22. After I brought this to H&R Block's attention (Case #22405539), and after significant effort on my part, they finally acknowledged their error. However, their response has been insulting. They offered a mere $456 as compensation, despite the 'Peace of Mind' guarantee promising to cover up to $6,000 in additional taxes due to their mistakes, and cover penalties and interest. This offer doesn't even cover 10% of the damage they caused. I am pursuing all available avenues to resolve this, including legal action and complaints to consumer protection agencies. I am sharing my story to prevent others from experiencing this same nightmare. H&R Block's 'Peace of Mind' guarantee, in my experience, has been anything but. They failed to provide the basic service I paid for - filing my return - and are now refusing to take full responsibility for the consequences

I waited to pick up until after vacation but asked how much was owed before and was not even told an accurate amount. We plan to pay every year so that is not the issue but when you are told one thing and find out something else it is frustrating. My husband also does A significant amount of work in the Detroit area but we have e never had to pay Detroit taxes always break even and actually this year probably worked less in Detroit than in years past and he has us owing so needless to say I will be sending in my return to not get penalized but have a appointment with my old tax man down state that I should have just gone to in the first place.
