Being someone's accountant means assuming a position of trust. As a professional accountant it's incumbent on you to always do the right thing and to treat your clients with respect and in the same manner you wish to be treated. If you don't want someone's business, or if you're too overwhelmed with personal matters to live up to the bear minimum of client expectations, then you owe it to your clients to have a frank and honest conversation that you're no longer able to meet their needs and then you put them in touch with someone who can. You don't pretend that you're handling their affairs only to eventually ghost them. Who does that? I was a client for many, many years. I honestly don't know what happened. I deserved better.
