I had a horrible experience with John Michael Hartnett. I made contact with him on Jan 16th/17th and uploaded my documents ahead of time. I then provided my mileage info on the site and waited with no responses to any of my email through your website system. I called the office in Novato on Feb 1st to get updates and the person had to take my messages twice. I got a returned calll from the office by another person who was rude and did not listen well. Unbeknown to me, Michael is out for 2 weeks. I was told to "well you gotta wait until he gets back". What amazing customer service. Please have the professional courtesy to not accept a file if you know you will be out of the office or at least re-assign it. Theres a reason why I am ready to file on Jan 15th so you can skip the "you have until april 18th" speech. The San Rafael / Terra Linda office was nice and accommodative by the way. read more

Zero stars. These people are flaky and unprofessional. Because of them not doing their job and filing my taxes on time, I had a late penalty of 3500 that I had to pay out of pocket and they said they could reimburse but it's been over 2 months with nothing from them. I would run from this business and never use them again. Absolutely terrible. I was just laughed at on the phone by Jelly at H&R Block when I asked when is a good time for me to bring in my taxes to be done at that office. Sue is my favorite tax person. H&R Block does a wonderful job. My appointment was easy to make. They didn't keep me waiting while I was there. It was very efficient and I was in and out. They had a lot of cubicles set up which was nice because it gave us privacy. Parking was easy. And I'm sure I'll go back again. read more

We were longstanding customer's of this location and a major error occurred by a tax preparer that resulted in the wrong purchase price of our property being inputted; this issue wasn't seamless to resolve at all. The Branch Manager of this office never called us back; there were no voicemail messages left for us. The women who helped with my taxes was amazing her name is Donna and she was so helpful the only thing I will say is DO NOT use the emerald card they offer unless you plan on using the card as a debit only. Genuinely the worst experience I have had dealing with a business. I sent my taxes here in March. I had not received my state tax return and it had been months. When I called the state tax person told me there was a discrepancy and I needed to have an addendum created. Because of the error, Emily created this addendum and told me she was going to mail this out for me free of charge. A few weeks later I called to check in and it still had not been mailed out. I then received a note saying there was another error with my taxes and if I don't complete this in two weeks I am going to be fined $1500. I was just told that they 'hope' I can get in touch with someone before the two weeks are up. They also told me they were going to refund me what I had already paid in tax fees and its been almost two months and I haven't seen a refund. Really would not recommend this business would honestly just pay someone more money to get them done right the first time. read more

**BEWARE** What they say is NOT what they do!! Be very careful and think twice before you do anything with this Novato office of H&R Block!! I always used to file taxes using online sites. This time, I wanted to consult H&R block once. Before taking appointment, I asked do I have to pay anything if I discuss but not file thru them. The confirmed there is no fee if I am not filing. Then I took the appointment. Unfortunately, I had to reschedule my appointment at the last minute and called them to change the date. Once again, I wanted to confirm if I have to pay anything and they confirmed no fees. On the day of appointment, I went there and gave 2 W2 forms (Self and Spouse). It was a 15 minutes data entry and I was told about the tax details. I informed that I will file later after doing my other research. I was asked to pay $75 because I am not filing thru them and "wasted" their 1 hour. I was shocked and explained that I was told of no charges and got it confirmed twice! The manager's response was "the representative might be wrong" but I still have to pay!! After few minutes of discussion, the manager and one more staff started shouting and threatening that they will go to collection agency to get the $75 if I don't pay them!! The staff started behaving very rudely and unprofessional manner. I was in a shock and felt it was not safe to be in that location anymore. I came out politely and immediately called H&R block customer care to lodge a compliant. I am waiting to see what action will be taken but I want you to caution about this situation. I give it 5 Stars for John Lucido, my tax professional at this office.For the last 5 years, i used to do HR online myself and was doing everything wrong! He was able to help me fix and do things properly. Every year that i have seen him, its smooth, hes professional. I deal with alot of CPA's and tax professionals, i still make the drive down even though i don't live there anymore to have him process them for me. My husband and I have been coming to H&R block in Novato for many years to do our annual taxes. This experience always meets our expectations. This year we made an appointment for 9am this morning. We arrived on time and was greeted by a new tax preparer. I immediately thought "shoot I should have made the appointment with the same lady who helped us last year she was excellent." Tina Riley who happened to be there came right in and said she would be happy to help us after the new lady started by getting our basic information. I was pleasantly surprised. Tina not only did a wonderful job on our taxes but, really went out her way to make sure all of our questions were answered. She did an outstanding job and way exceeded my expectations. Next year I will be calling Tina directly. She is very professional and really made me and my family feel comfortable. If you need to get your taxes done I highly recommend her! read more

I normally do my taxes on turbo tax but wondered if H & R block can find deductions that I may have been missing. I scheduled an appt with Tamara. She promised to try to help me get good results and review my 2013 taxes to see if she can make what I owe in taxes less. She was very chatty and gave me the run around with phone calls and follow up emails. After about 2 weeks my 2014 taxes were finally filed. She claimed there was a hold up on attempting my ammendment on 2013 taxes due to a "glitch" in the system which I later find out possibly never exsisted. Than after emails and phone calls she swore that I was missing a W2 which was not correct. I finally called the office after not getting a reply from an email to her. The recpetionist transfers me to the office manager who tells me that Tamara no longer works there as a couple of days ago! I feel the office should have called Tamara's clients before we called looking for her. I was pissed and of course concerned since I had the feeling after talking to the manager that she left on bad terms and had all my personal info! To begin with I dont trust anyone and now she up and left in the peak time of tax season and had knowledge of my SS# , ect. The manager assured me that all my info was safe which was hard to belive but then after calming down I came to my senses and allowed her to look over the ammendment that Tamara started. Obviously the manager didnt have any info because the next day she calls me and says it looks like I did my taxes coorect in turbo tax that year!! I could have told her that- I was looking for deductions that I might have missed. In the managers defense Tamara did put her in a shitty situation! And she did try to help but then the manager tells me that I should come in and review my 2014 taxes because Tamara might have done something wrong! I was so pissed. I could have just filed on line quickly instead of drawing this process out over weeks with disatisfaction! I paid for extra audit defense so told her that this is on H&R block and I am done with them! Where do they hired their so called " tax professionals"! This has been the worst experience ever!
