This was my first time using Ray for my kind of complicated tax prep, but I'm coming back every…read moreyear from now on! This is a family business: Ray does the prep, his wife (of 49 years!) does scheduling, and his adult grandson and wife assist in the practice. The office is filled with family travel photos and mementos, and small things to make customers feel well served and welcome: water bottles and soda are on the customers' side of the desk, with candy, phone charging cords, and pads and pens. I got a rubber jar opener that Ray gave out last year - his 30th anniversary client gift because I didn't get one then (not being a client). It's in a strip mall on the corner of Newport Ave and Beverage Hill and does t look that reassuring from the outside - but inside is a caring, professional, and friendly group of tax experts. As we sat doing my taxes, about 10 people came in one at a time to drop off, pick up, or ask questions about their tax forms (and one who needed to do amended forms for late W-2s). Grandson Austin handled most of them independently, but was very discreet when he needed quick info from the expert. Ray saved mea SERIOUS amount over last year's federal tax bill (by finding deductions TurboTax - and the CPA we used before last year - didn't offer/explain, at about half the fee I would have paid either of them). He also helped me learn how to pre-pay state taxes to lower my sticker shock next year: I'll always owe RI because my husband's MA pension isn't taxed by MA when it's paid but it's considered fully taxable income in RI. Ouch. Helping me avoid another huge bill next August? Thank you, Ray! Call early for 2026 - they cannot accept any more new clients this year. I'm so lucky I made the call to Ray Therrien when I did!

And here is how I know Nikki and Larry are trustworthy. They advised us against a specific business plan and showed us its shortcomings, although they could have made lots of money doing the paperwork for us. This shows integrity. Larry showed me how to do a simple task at city hall that would cost me a mere $10 instead of something that would have cost around $1000 a year. Give them a try and judge for yourself!

She put together vision boards for me for both the coffee and cocktails and I ran with those visions. I've never done professions photos before, but she made it stress free. She helped me pick out outfits to use, helped guide me through shot ideas (I'm usually taking photos of drinks, not being the main piece of a shoot), and coached me through each section of the experience. She captures various looks and went above and beyond with everything. We tried cool ideas like balancing coffees on my sneakers or cocktails on high heels---things I never would have thought of or dared trying had it not been for her! She sent over a Timelapse of our time working together and then sent over dozens of photos for me to pick from. Narrowing down so many amazing photos that she took was hard! She is so talented. I love how she has special pricing options for ordering more. It allowed me the chance to pick many photos that I loved from the gallery she put together. The shoot was such a fun experience, unlike anything else I've ever done before! She made it feel like a fun hangout with a friend rather than something that normally might stress me out. Bob even took his time explaining all fees and what i would be getting back one by one. by far the best experience i have ever had doing my taxes. so good that this is my first Yelp review ever. go see Bob you won't be disappointed.

They were also unclear about the fees. I was verbally told one amount, later when I got home and reviewed the fees I realized I paid quite a bit more (my fault for not reviewing the fees thoroughly in person).They also kept my originals, Zack the manager assured me he mailed them but I never received anything. I gave up on following up as Zack stopped returning my calls (so hopefully I won't need them).

It took them more then five months to complete a…read morebasic non-business personal related tax request, initial inquiry in May and being completed in October- I had to give the same information over and over to different people and would have to follow up multiple times while they left me in the dark for weeks multiple times. I was rushed into signing the approval documentation without even being told the amount I would be paying to the IRS or their business and was left taking a hit of 6k unexpectedly less then 24 hours later without any option for a payment plan, disclosure on the amount etc- they told me there was nothing they could do to stop the charge and apologized profusely. They accepted blame for the situation and admitted that the service I got was unacceptable and when I asked for my money back- as ANYONE WOULD when being given awful service, I was ghosted for two weeks before being told "I got the service I paid for" which was no communication, poor management, them admitting wrong in the situation and stress. I felt like I had to follow up with them to do their job and I paid them $300 to just be put in a stressful situation. Absolutely do not recommend, super poor management and awful taste left from the experience. Cannot warn anyone enough how AWFUL Rick and his employees were with handling the whole experience. I was even told they would "rectify it however they could" but when I said the proper solution would to be to refund me for the amount of time and stress their business caused I was then responded with "you got your service no matter how bad it was, I wont go back and forth on that..." so how were they going to rectify it then? A flower basket? Literally lost my entire savings in one day because of them. Rick said in emails he wanted to better work on the business and cared about client satisfaction, but has left me in such a financial hardship and depression with no way to solve the problem they caused. During this entire process I NEVER received a phone call except the last day to make sure they got paid. Literally go use turbotax.

This was never mentioned until the last possible moment, and it honestly felt like a bait-and-switch. If I had known the real cost from the beginning, I never would've trusted him with my information. I'm filing a complaint with the Rhode Island Board of Accountancy, because this behavior is not just unprofessional--it's unethical. Avoid at all costs.

The building is modern, clean, and has ample parking. The employees that I interacted with were prompt and friendly. They made a license renewal process relatively easy. My only complaint is that my new license photo has me looking a little like Jabba the Hutt but this is probably more of a me issue versus the camera issue. Overall it was a positive affordable experience, which is rare when it comes to automotive related services in Rhode Island.
