He found an issue with the depreciation amount that Turbo Tax defaulted to and fixed the problem. I've been going to him ever since instead of Turbo Tax. Sure an accountant costs more than Turbo Tax but it's worth it for some folks. I own a property so my tax deductions get messy and I prefer that the IRS not audit me, so I'll let a professional ensure I don't make dumb mistakes. He does electronic filing if you want him to and he'll have it all done for you in one visit.

Fast forward 3 weeks and 3 different phone calls from either my husband or I and we still do not have anything back. That was about the time that it seems like he finally started on it. He asked us a few more clarifying questions and told us he would have it back in a day or so. Mind you he had stopped responding to me altogether. He would only correspond with my husband which I found to be VERY sexist and beyond infuriating. Finally a month after we met with him/ started this process, he sent my husband an email with our tax information. It seemed VERY inaccurate so we started doing our own on turbo tax as a gut check. My husband emailed him back asking to clarify how those numbers came about. And then all of a sudden within a few hours he "re-ran the numbers" and they came back significantly different than the first set of numbers.. All in all we felt so uncomfortable with it that we ended up going to HR Block. WHICH came up with a completely different set of numbers. Please do not go to this man if you are looking to be treated fairly, promptly, OR accurately!

It was our first time using an accountant, so we had no idea what to expect cost and service wise. First, our final preparation fee was twice what we were quoted. We paid $815. Second, the amounts of what we owed/were refunded fluctuated by hundreds multiple times. Even before they sent our taxes to the IRS, the amounts changed. Nervous, we went ahead and let them file our taxes. When we received notification from the IRS that our taxes were filed incorrectly, we contacted them and asked them to help us understand what had happened. In the text exchange they said "Ok I'll bust out the crayons for you". Our questions brought defensiveness, "I'm unsure if you believe us or not that we have both been in this professional field for 5 years not including college", when all we wanted was to understand why my ex's return was so much less and mine was so much more than expected. We used an accountant so our taxes would be filed correctly. If we were going to send them incorrectly and have the IRS correct them, we would have done the taxes ourselves.
