As most reviews have alluded to - this place is a joke. My husband typically does his own taxes but when we were married and I moved in with him from out of state - it created some additional complications with our taxes that he did not have the time to handle. That being said - we went to this exact location to get our taxes done and we should have steered clear... 1. We submitted all of our paperwork online. They indicated they couldn't see it even though my husband was looking directly at the drop box folder in which the company had specifically provided for file transfer. So we had to email to our particular tax preparer. 2. They charged us $500 for a federal and 2 states. Some dividends involved but nothing too crazy. Felt wildly expensive....especially when we get to the next point. 3. The preparation was done incorrectly - one of the state taxes was COMPLETELY WRONG and my husband called multiple times over the week where he was promised call backs and reviews of the work, but nothing ever came to fruition. 4. The state was claiming we owed them several thousand dollars and indicated we would start accruing fees/penalties if we did not pay. Anxiety. 5. this forced us both to go physically to the building (because to point 3 no one was actually taking care of us)after a day at work (we both work full time jobs) to make sure ONE person was fully aware of the situation that their work had landed us in trouble with the states. 6. We received a full refund for their "work" about the ONLY positive - after my husband nearly screamed at them in the office. 7. H&R re-prepared the documents and sent to the state again. 5 months later....we find out that AGAIN it was done incorrectly. 8. We are currently handling ourselves, because we cannot trust these people to handle a simple joint federal vs 2 separate state returns. In summary: - these people are totally incompetent and cannot deal with slight complexities of taxes. They can really only handle basic items it seems. - technologically incapable- it seems they all don't know how to use computers - horrendous customer service - never having a dedicated person to talk to, ignoring our calls, not handling the situation efficiently & effectively. - save yourself the time, money, and mental space don't use them. Find anyone else. A monkey throwing darts at a return would probably produce better results. Do not come here for simple taxes these people do not deserve to stay in business. read more

This is an absolute joke of a firm. They can't handle taxes that require anything outside of a 1040EZ form. None of them are actual CPAs, and their software mishap cost me over $100k, please stay away. Particularly Nilima Shah - do not let her touch your taxes. read more

I have been going to this location for several years (they used to be right across the street). This year my service was downright disappointing. I went to the same tax preparer that I used last year. She is very kind and I found her to be a pleasure to work with. However, I received a voicemail from her 4 days after my taxes were prepared and supposedly e-filed. She left a message stating that the state of Maryland was rejecting my return and it would have to be mailed in because of a glitch In the MD e-file system. I called back but she was with someone else so I left her a message requesting a call back. While waiting for the return call I decided to see what I could find out about this MD e-file glitch online(figuring if it was happening to me it must be happening to others as well). I could find absolutely no mention of any "glitch". And the only advice I could find was that if the MD system was rejecting your return to search for the error and resend it. So....by the time she called me back I asked exactly what was going on. She said because I had additional income due to 1099's I had received for sales incentives it was causing a glitch and they had seen this a bit this year. I shared with her that I found nothing of this glitch but if I needed to mail it in then I would be by to pick up my hard copies to mail in but I still felt like there had to be an issue or error on the return. My daughter picked up my return the next day when she was in town (this was on a Friday). Then I received a call back from the preparer on Sunday asking if I had mailed the return in. I advised that I hadn't as my daughter brought it home late but it was in the mailbox. She told me to go get it. There was an error on my return causing it to be rejected by e-file (the exact thing I had said one week earlier and was told "no it is a glitch")!!! So now they could correct and e-file for state,however, my federal return had the same duplicated line causing that to also be incorrect and the Federal government in turn owes me $800 more! So now they will mail me an amended return to send in to the IRS. So finally it seems like everything is correct but after paying $280 I was left feeling like I paid for a huge mess and there was no apology for the inconvenience or run around. I wanted to make the branch manager aware of the issue and have her check last years return as well. I spoke with her and it became very clear that if this woman was the manager why that location was having such issues. She was gruff, non apologetic and lacking in customer service. She asked me after I explained everything that happened if I would like a coupon for $ off of next years return preparation. I advised no thank you as I would not be returning. The entire reason you pay for a place like this to prepare is so that it is done correctly. And if it had ended there I might be leaving a 3 star review....but it gets worse! I then receive an amended 1099 with a letter from the vendor stating they reported to much on their first 1099. So I call to speak with the branch manager but she was with customers. I explain my situation and am told she will call before she leaves (this was on a Tuesday). Over the next 7 days I leave 4 messages for the branch manager with no return call! Finally I call and ask for her again. And again I am told she is with customers. I am asked to leave a message which I again do but with an added not that if I do not receive a return call I will be tracking down the regional manager for this location. Amazingly I get a return call this time. When I speak with the store manager the fist word out of her mouth are "didn't I already talk to you about your return?" I was flabbergasted! Did she ignore my messages because she felt she had already listened to my complaint? I asked her why in the world would I have called back 5 more times if I did t need to speak with her? She said that this was the first message she had received. Now I don't know what is the truth but whichever it is.....it is damn poor customer service. I told her if that was the first message she has received then she really has a problem at her location because I had called 4 times prior and left very detailed messages with her receptionist. She said "yeah we have a lot of problems around here". Huh?!? Do yourselves a favor and find somewhere else to get your taxes done. First of all they are overpriced and secondly they are undertrained and lastly have absolutely no clue on how to treat their customers! read more
