I wouldn't use this company for anything. They sell dirt that's alkaline and when I asked for compensation after I used this soil all over my yard with Justin (who runs mommy's business) told me he was "offended" that I even asked! (He said that twice). I had my soil tested by the university of Kentucky and they said it was the the highest pH of soil they've ever seen. This place is a clown show. I used to start all over my yard, including my vegetable garden, it was a ton of work and nothing will grow, plants, vegetables and grass. only dies. We moved here from Wisconsin three years ago to be near family. In that time I have purchased firewood numerous times. Most times I was disappointed with the purchase because the wood was wet, not cut to dimension and/or short of a cord. Got a lot of dirt and rock, too. I bought my first full cord from Hafner and Sons in August. Great wood. Clean, dry and cut to dimension. Just received my second cord yesterday. Same result. I called and asked if they would talk to their driver about not turning around in residential driveways due to the size of the trucks and the damage when the truck misses the driveway. The person I spoke to used profanity toward me and called me an asshole. I thought that was very unprofessional and unnecessary. I will never consider this company for any services based on this experience and after reading some of their other reviews, which supports similar rude behavior. read more

I bought 10 yards of their premium top soil/garden mix last year (at $42/yard) for raised beds. I planted veggies and annual flowers. Nothing flourished. I had beets the size of a pea, 3 zucchini from 5 plants, all the cucumbers died, for example. When I did a soil test through the State of Ohio, the pH was unacceptably high (7.8). The soil scientists at Hamilton County Conservation District agreed. However, when I called to complain, the GM basically told me that his soil was good and I was just a bad gardener (even though I have 50 years of experience and was a landscape professional for many years.) He said I could research on the Internet and see that 7.8 was a good pH but he was telling me it was so based on his degree in hort from Ohio State. He refused to make it good. A search on the Internet later confirmed what the soil scientists at Ham. Co. had said and that was that I would struggle to grow anything in that very expensive dirt. Don't buy from this company. They sell an inferior product and don't stand behind it. I don't want you to end up like me, spending hundreds more $ and lots more time trying to get the soil where something will grow it it! read more

Really bad experience with this company. Ordered 2 dumpsters and paid dutifully on both. Took $960 right out of my card. When I got the 3rd dumpster they charged me $40 for a "double hook charge" and an additional $185 because they said that construction debris and trash debris was mixed in the box. Really felt like i was scammed on the double hook fee. They asked someone who was working on site where to put the dumpster when I, the customer, had already told them where to put it so I could avoid a $40 charge. They listened to someone who happened to be on site and they arbitrarily designated this person an "authorized agent." He was just someone working there, I had already told them what to do! It seems like they could have just called me. It's like if someone was painting your house and they asked that person where to set the dumpster. The person casually tells them where to put it. To them, that person becomes your agent. It doesn't make sense. I agreed to pay the $185 but did not want to pay the $40. I told them I could have the payment by 5pm that day and the person on the phone angrily demanded that I pay now! They were extremely rude and charged me anyway. The rudeness was from the top down. Overall, it was a very bad and stressful experience. The customer service was terrible. I was surprised by how rude they were and I felt like our business meant nothing to them. I found that the quality Hafner's product is very good - thus, I would give it 4 stars for this part. However, the delivery is another story. The truck driver was more than an hour late from the scheduled window of delivery time. A much bigger problem to me was that I repeatedly warned the truck driver delivery man to be careful with a stone wall near my driveway that I didn't want damaged -- there was plenty of clearance, and he appeared to be a skilled truck driver. Well, he ends up hitting and damaging the stone wall with his front tire. This was pure carelessness, and a case of him rushing too much because he just wanted to 'get 'er done'. He just drove off after dumping, without any apology, no thank you for your business, or anything. Just a careless driver, and not too concerned with customer satisfaction. They make you sign a waiver/paper just before they deliver stating that they are not responsible for any damage to your property -- if you want your stuff, you have to sign -- after you sign, I guess they don't care too much, as long as they don't hurt their precious truck. Overall, I'd say a good product, but poor delivery service (beware). read more

I ordered 4 yards of Hafner Peat humas at 48.00 a yard. I filled my new raised beds with it and after a month nothing was growing. My neighbor said it did not look anything like the peat humas she had ordered 2 years ago. After a month the guy who delivered it to me came out to look. Oh yes he said. It is definitely the humas mixture. He spotted one whole leaf on top of the raised bed and said if it weren't the humas, that leaf wouldn't be there. Well my raised beds are near a woods and I often picked whole leaves out. He offered to send me one yard of manure as a consolation prize. As I survey the large gardens I started here in our new home, I am continually irked not only that I paid $48.00 a yard but what I got was class C back fill at 11.50a ton. But that he lied to me!!! What a scam. Never again and all my neighbors are witness to this fiasco. No way to run a business. I'd give Hafner a minus 5 instead of the 1 star you have to post to get your review published. read more
