I was open carrying my sidearm (in a holster on my hip but not concealed from sight) as is legally allowed in the state of West Virginia. I was approached by a sales person and asked if I was a law enforcement officer. I stated that I was not. A second store personnel approached me and asked me the same question to which I answered exactly the same. She stated that I then was not allowed to carry have my firearm in the store as it was against Grand Central Mall policy and that I would have to leave. I asked to speak to the manager and she informed me that she was the manager and that she was also the one in charge of the firearms for the store. She further informed me that I was breaking the mall policy because it had a "no firearms" sign on the main entrance of the mall. Approximately 200 yards away from where I had entered Dunham's Store. I informed her that I was not violating any laws and that in order for me to have been breaking the mall "policy" that I would have had to seen the sign at the entrance that I had used, there was none there. I also told her that no firearms signs have no force of law in the state of West Virginia. I asked her if I was not allowed to have my firearm on me while in the store then how could Dunham's sell firearms. There was two walls covered with rifles, shotguns, and handguns in the store, along with ammunition. She said that Grand Central Mall allowed them to sell the firearms but that they that they could not hand the firearm directly to the customer after the purchase, a store employee had to hold onto the firearm, walk the customer to their vehicle and place it in the vehicle and that the customer then had to immediately exit the premises. How this makes sense I don't know but I informed the manager that I would no longer patronize their store due to their hypocritical policies. I then went to another actual gun store in the area and was talking about the experience, turns out the sales person I was speaking to, who was also a firearms instructor had been called by the manager of Dunham's asking if I was actually allowed to legally open carry in the state. We both had a laugh over the fact that it turned out that I was "That Guy" that she had called him to ask about. What galls me is that the manager from Dunhams had absolutely no idea what was actually legal within the state of West Virginia but was sure that I was doing something illegal. I've not since gone back into the store for any purchases and even contacted their corporate headquarters to inform them that I would never give a dime to their chain. The worst part of the entire encounter was the attitude given by the sales staff and the so called management.

Upon arrival, I learned that this is a barn operated on a private residence. However the inside looked clean and well stocked from the few seconds I could see because upon entering I was told to remove my face mask. Now mind you I've walked into schools, banks and other gun shops without a problem. I could tell immediately that the man behind the counter was "irked" that I was wearing a mask. He told me "you can go ahead and take that mask off". Respectfully (and I really was) I replied "I'd prefer to keep it on." He then replied "Can't have people wearing masks, with this being a gun store and all." Yea I wasn't buying that line. Well unfortunately there wasn't anything I could do, it's his business, his property. So I left without any further incident. (Not to mention buying anything). Sadly I have no pictures but I assure you, he looks exactly how you would imagine . With the delta variant flying around, I'll not risk ever coming to this poor ignorant fool's shop.

He obviously puts pride into his shop, everything was clean and well displayed. The fella was polite and friendly, seemed well versed, and he is obviously a contributing member of the local community. The product of focus was in stock. In general, the stock was ample and the prices are reasonable. Based on my experience, I'll revist the shop and would recommend it to others.
