I've heard of H Mart before when I was living in California, but I assumed it was exclusively a SoCal thing. Once I moved to Denver and was searching for a place to buy all my Asian groceries, Yelp suggested this one. After being here for a couple months now, H Mart has become my Asian food haven. The store is pretty well-organized with signs that clearly mark which items can be found in which sections. The produce here is pretty fresh and inexpensive, so if I'm making a big grocery haul for the month and happen to need some Asian fare as well, I'll usually buy most of my things from H Mart. If you're a kimchi fan, they sell a lot of different types here pre-made by the store and packaged into various sized containers so you can get a ton or just a little to try some out. They have some pre-made Korean food too, but most of it doesn't usually look all that great, so I haven't tried any of it yet. There's a large selection of Asian food supplies here (Korean, Japanese, Thai, etc), so you're likely to find all your specialty ingredients here. The biggest thing I love about H Mart (and other Asian supermarkets, actually) is that they're basically never closed (except on Lunar New Year!). When I was missing an ingredient (red radishes!) on Christmas Day, H Mart saved the day since they were open with their regular store hours. LIFESAVER if you're missing something for your holiday dinner. Whether you're looking for base ingredients or pre-made and ready-to-cook items for your Asian influenced meal (or even just regular meals!), H Mart has them all and a fair price. read more

Great place to find food that you normally wouldn't find in a typical grocery store. I personally love coming here for the specialized Ramen and other types of noodles. Anything you're looking for they pretty much have it all! Just for fun, go back into the meat section and look at all the different types of beef, pork, anything they have back there. It's really interesting to see different foods that we don't typically have in restaurants in America. If you visit H Mart for the first time and the questionable fish smell causes you to reconsider, don't...you're in the right place. You're likely here because you're tired of the one overpriced hoisin sauce that King Soopers offers, or this is the 3rd place you've tried to find lime leaves at. Your quest is finished my friend. Lime leaves, long green beans, Asian basil, Thai peppers, a half dozen or more Thai curries, a bazillion different soy sauces (OK, I may have overcounted by one or two), bulk rice...and I've only scratched the surface. This place has EVERYTHING. You'll not only find what you need, but frequently wonder "What the hell is that?". If you like making Thai, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Indian, or any other food import, H Mart is your one-stop shop. I like making some unique Thai dishes, and they have everything I need. I especially like buying the bulk Jasmine rice, which is so much cheaper. The downside is that the produce can be a bit low quality at times. The last couple Asian basil bunches I've bought have gone bad in about a day. This isn't always the case, however. I have also experienced shortages of the things I need, such as the special curry that I use. But you're not going to find it anywhere else, and they usually have what you need in stock. If you can't find it, it probably just means they're out at the moment. Service has always been friendly, and the people watching while shopping is fun. The place can be kind of overwhelming with all the options (many with poor translations in English), but that can be part of the fun. Plus you'll be getting a much better deal. So definitely make this your first stop when firing up the wok the next time around. read more

I'd go to this store everyday if I lived closer! Every time I come here, I have to get their fried dumplings (the styrofoam trays on the table by the seafood dept). Tasty, even at room temperature! This is the only other store besides Pacific Mercantile where I can get my frozen Ajinomoto brand shumai and gyoza, waffle ice cream, Apollo choco, and Ramune soda. If I'm lucky, the goods section will have a few cute bento boxes. I get my frozen ahi here for sashimi and it has always tasted good. Sometimes they have food samples and you can try some weird, tasty stuff for free. Be prepared, this place gets busy. Expect long lines and people running you over with their cart. read more

I heart H Mart. This grocery store carries every Asian product under the sun. Every time I come here, I feel like I've died and gone to Asian Food Heaven. My sensations are overloaded, and I get overwhelmed by all the awesome food they have here. Plus, this place actually carries so many items I grew up eating while living in rural Thailand as a child.....including filefish and snails. Yes, SNAILS. Snails are the bomb. At $4.99 per/lb, I certainly gobble up. The only other place I know of that carries snails is a store in Tampa, FL, and that's only on special occasion. Having slugs at my fingertips whenever I want is invaluable. I cannot stress this enough. Think that's gross? Good. That equals more for me. Gobble, gobble. Why not 5 stars? They could take it up a notch in the cleanliness department. Some aisles are in disarray. It overwhelms my already overwhelmed senses. Also, the employees here are not very helpful when you are clearly visibly perplexed about something. You have to literally tap them on the shoulder to get them to assist you even though it's quite clear you have a question. That's typical for an Asian establishment though. read more

Food: Before walking into this store I had no idea that I would be encountering a large and very diverse selection of imported food items ranging from East Asian to Oriental ingredients. They had everything there from Korean restaurants where you could buy BiBimBap to yummy Boba (bubble) drink specials. There was also fresh fish of ALL different varieties to choose from and even frozen seafood as well. The condiment isle held an array of tastes ranging from Filipino Silver Swan soy sauce to exotic Indian masalas. Although there were a FEW things I noted that were NOT available (Lingzi coffee, apple bananas, etc.) for the most part they had a lot of the basic things that your average Asian person could buy to make themselves at home with "away" from home. Service: There were a number of different testers placed around the store offering samples of everything from Korean pancake to different types of fishcake. There can be quite a "language barrier" with many of the workers there since a large majority of them seem to speak English as a second language. I ran into a situation one day where I politely asked a woman in one of the restaurants if I could use the restroom and she responds rudely with a strong and very heavy Asian accent, "Does this look like a restroom to you?" (Sigh) Other than my experience with that woman in the restaurant, I've met some very nice cashiers who were very courteous while checking out my goods at the cash register. Atmosphere: For me, it is your typical Asian supermarket with lots of exotic foods, smells, tastes, and sights. It reminds me of Don Quixote, Pacific Market, or even Marukai Market back home which also specializes in providing Asian food and household goods. I've even ran through a few beauty isles with hair colors, shampoos, and skin care for Asian women. Every time I get "lost" in H-mart, I am always reminded that there is a LITTLE tiny bit of Asia here in Colorado that makes everything so special :) Price: Prices here are decent yet, I find that some items are cheaper when bought at your local Mexican carniceria or King Soupers. Parking: Parking is FREE and I have always found parking in abundance. MY THOUGHTS? Moving here from Hawaii has been a big change for me. To have the opportunity to shop at a place that allows for me to recreate recipes from home (mom's kitchen for example!) means SO much to someone who is far AWAY from home! These little things make me appreciate more of what Colorado has to offer its residents (and newcomers at that!) RECOMMENDATIONS: I like the Boba Drinks there... I grew up in Denver, actually I'm a third-generation native - I'm not bragging as I find it kind of sad that no one in my family every went anywhere else! Be that as it may, I have seen Denver (and the surrounding metro area) go from a small cow-town, to a larger more culturally diverse cow-town. When I was young, we didn't eat "Asian" food, we had Chinese food, either out of a multi-part Chung King can from the grocery store (I thought it was heaven on a plate) or from an "authentic" Chinese restaurant, which was either located in a bowling alley or in a building which formerly housed a House of Pancakes. There used to be a place in West Denver (where I grew up) called Sherry's that served the best sweet-an-sour chicken I'd ever eaten. But, I was probably eight at the time... At that time you could either buy your groceries at Safeway or at neighborhood store. I'm pretty sure that the only specialty markets were located in the Italian neighborhoods, which at that time were in North Denver. Then came King Soopers and Albertson's. My mom would occasionally feel compelled to serve fish for dinner. The fish choices from the grocery store consisted of halibut, frozen solid pre-packaged, or salmon from a can. Needless to say, these were not popular meals at our house. Shrimp was only consumed at a "fancy" restaurant before the steak or roast beef. Shrimp cocktail was always served over lettuce in a fancy glass sherbet type bowl on top of ice with a glob of ketchup on top. For years I thought that this was the only way that shrimp was allowed to be served. It was a treat and it was expensive. But now, many years later, Denver is more diverse (thank god) and we not only have traditional grocery stores, with excellent meat and fish departments but we have Whole Foods, Sunflower and the like. Happily we have entire areas of the city where ethnic populations have opened markets and shops with traditional foods and delicacies. There are Hispanic markets, Italian markets and Asian markets which all have great appeal to the masses. As Asian markets go I must say the H Mart really knocked my socks off. My husband had visited there several months ago and raved about it. So, on a Sunday he, our daughter and I took a road trip (yes anything beyond a two-mile radius from our home is considered a road trip) to H Mart. H Mart is huge, yet small as it's like lots of little markets in one big location. The first thing you see is a section with dozens of types and sizes of rice cookers - from just a few cups to the "rice for a small army" size. We bought our first rice-cooker in Hawaii, twenty-five years ago because you couldn't find rice cookers in Denver. The produce section is abundant with everything from tomatoes to about six different types of bok choy (who knew?) to some pretty weird looking fruit called durian, which I understand is an "acquired taste." What really blew me away was the fish section. Large containers filled with shrimp (heads-on, heads-off etc.) at incredibly reasonable prices. A large display of whole fish - you pick your fish and tell them how you want it. They scale it, bone it, slice it, fillet it...whatever you want. Amazing. Beyond the faboo fish section is the frozen food area. This is where our daughter exclaimed "I bet they have pork rolls!!" Indeed, many kinds and sizes of pork, veggie, fish rolls along with just about anything else you could every want. Who knew that my daughter (a foodie, in her own right) would be so taken by the thought of pork rolls - I now know what to buy her for her birthday. Rice (in large sacks), noodles, spices, sauces, it's all here. As I looked around, past all of the food and dry goods what I noticed was that Denver has become such a wonderful melting pot and it made me feel good. People of all ethnicities were shopping here. The people who work there are friendly and helpful. So metro Denver has come a long way. I'm glad that I stuck around to experience it. read more

It is so nice having a H-mart near by! For those of you that aren't in the know, it is basically a Korean mini mall (as other Yelpers have said). There is a tofu stand, eyeglass shop, bakery store, clothing store, restaurant, housewares section, etc. The largest area is the grocery store. While they specialize in Korean fare, they also carry a selection of Vietnamese, Japanese, Chinese and Mexican products. Their produce selection is vast and cheap (score!). They have a large meat department with cuts you wouldn't find at other grocers. Like others have mentioned, the building does feel a little run down but I don't care! I haven't found any other places near me that carry the staple pantry items I need to make delicious Korean food. Make sure to stop at the Boba stand for a delish Thai Tea with Boba (no credit cards for purchases under $5 - bring cash or buy some chocolate or sweet red bean filled goldfish cakes to go with your drink!). I really like the popped rice cakes they sell too. They are a great snack! If you have never been, go and experience something new! read more

BEST asian market I have discovered thus far in Denver. After seeing H Mart pop up in yelp for quite some time, I decided to go check it out. Instantly from the moment you walk in, you know you are in a legit asian market. To the right is the produce section, with a WIDE variety of fruits and vegetables (many of which, I have never heard of or actually seen firsthand). Raise your hand if you remember Koala Yummies? They were my ULTIMATE childhood after school snack , coming in this octagon shaped box. Inside contained these little graham crackers with koala bears printed on them and filled with chocolatey goodness. Well...... I FOUND THEM HERE!!!!! After not seeing them for so long and forgetting all about them, the minute I saw them in the asian snacks aisle, it was all over. H Mart also carries a MONDO selection of rice from sushi to short and long grain. Oh! They also have quite the variety of seaweed wraps for when you want to have your own personal sushi adventures! H Mart carries just about anything you could use in satisfying your asian cravings or to add a little asian flair in your everyday cooking. PLUS, they have Koala Yummies!!!!!!! read more

More and more white people every day! All of Denver is catching on to this Asian grocery because it is more than just a store... it is in fact about a dozen stores. Housed within the grocery are several vendors selling everything from rice makers to popped rice to homemade tofu. At all those places, you pay the vendor directly and usually it's cash. H Mart has produce from all over the world and it's in great condition. It's always fresh, and always clean. They also have a great fish market where you can literally pick out which LIVE fish you want them to kill and clean for you. Beer, seaweed, herbs, dried mushrooms, soy sauce, but also Crest tooth paste, tin foil, cokes, napkins, laundry detergent- you name it and they have it. I love shopping here and apparently so does all of Denver. The secret is out about HMART. It might be considered as an Asian grocery because it sells some Asian specialty items, but you'd never call it that just by watching who is going inside. H Mart is pretty much the Walmart of Asian food... minus the mullets. This place is huge. The produce is vast and cheap, and has a whole bunch of stuff that I've never even heard of before. They even have 5 or 6 different kinds of eggplants and several kinds of bok choy. They have prepackaged portions of pickled vegetables and several kinds of kimchi that are all very good, especially the raddish kimchi. They even have durian if you're feeling brave. On the downside, a lot of the produce looks pretty ugly and you often have to do some digging to find something acceptable. The quality does not quite live up to the selection. The frozen food and refrigerated sections have all kind of seafood products, meats, noodles, buns, potstickers, miso, and some pretty interesting "miscellaneous" stuff. They have some of the best prices on frozen shellfish, which is awesome. The only downside is that many of the products do not have an english translation, so it can be difficult to figure out what exactly something is. They have a whole section devoted to vegan mock meats from duck to fish to scallops and shrimp... all very impressive. I enjoy the vegan ham, though the scallop balls were a bit meh. There is also a random cooking appliances and other kitchen stuff section right inside the door. They have good deals on woks and rice cookers. There is some pretty odd stuff in there. One tip is that there is a little food shop next to the produce section that makes boba and stuffed waffle things. The boba is amazing, especially if you like really sweet drinks. The waffle stuffed with hershey's chocolate is as amazingly good as it sounds. I go here quite often, and will continue to do so. The place is a little bit dirty compared to a place like Safeway, but I don't mind. Also, the parking lot can be a rather dangerous place to drive around in. read more

Another Disney World of Asian Goodies. I walked in and was immediately overwhelmed. It's sort of like being on a street market in a third world country, but not in a bad way. It's an adventure. It's huge. And I mean BIG. A labyrinthine street fair. There's stuff you won't find anywhere else. And I don't get the glares for being caucasian that I've gotten at some other Asian Markets. If it weren't such a drive, I'd be at HMart way more often. The produce is SO cheap, and they've got tons of veggies you just can't find anywhere else. I love to get my fresh Shiitake Mushrooms here, because they're literally a THIRD of the price you'd see at a chain grocery store. Then there's the snacks. Hello Pandas, Pockys, Moshi, Sesame Snacks, Rice Cracker Mixes and a bazillion more. Need Oils, Kimchees, Spices or Ginormous Bags of Rice? Go crazy, kiddo. Chinese Sausages? Okay. Frozen Dumplings? Holy Frozen Dumplings...There were a TON. Plug in your steamer and get to it! Oh yeah, There's also furniture, clothing, Bamboo, Bonsai Trees, Silk Mats, Hats, Boba Tea... Flea Market extraordinnaire. Tea. Buns. Random parts of animals. Pastries. Live Fishies. Sauces Galore. Just wander the aisles and fill your cart. Impulse buys are mostly okay here, since it's so inexpensive. Maybe, though, leave a trail of breadcrumbs so you can find your way out. read more

OKAY!!!! I don't know where to begin on H-Mart. I was a little hesitant coming here at 1st, but I am glad I did... All my fellow yelpers convinced me to come on in and give it a try. 1st off it had everything you could possibly look for or want when it comes to meats. We ordered a Red Striper "fish" and it was as if it was caught from the sea. When we took it home and fried it up, it was SOOO amazing... We also bought some mixed meat as well. We ended up serving that to family. The only down side was it was all gone by the time I got to it. :-(. WHY are you so far away, H Mart? Though I regularly do my "asian" grocery shopping at a spot much closer to me, I love coming here. It's the Asian Supermarket for the Denver area, IMO. Tons of delicious prepared foods (mmm! seaweed salad!) and such, plus lots of fresh veggies and fruits. But the last time I went, the loose onions were gross, so be careful. H Mart is a KOREAN grocery though, and some of my preferred Chinese eats seem to be missing. I'll just buy more kimchee and deal. ;) Don't forget to go through the "home goods" section for cute mugs, plates, and various kitchen wares that you didn't know you needed. read more

My friends and I do a weekly dinner night and this week, I decided to do Thai. I usually just try to improvise and find ingredient substitutions for items that are only found at Asian markets but this time I sucked it up and went to H Mart. Gave up my Asian market virginity, if you will. I was glad I did! Holy cow, I couldn't quit thinking about this place after I left. I got a basket since I only needed a few things and my arms are still sore from overfilling it. First of all, the produce section has FOUR kinds of eggplant (some call that a well-stocked store, but I call it heaven). Super cheap herbs that you can't find everywhere. Oyster and enoki mushrooms. Long stalks of lemongrass. I circled around the produce section a few times, noticing something I missed each time I took another lap. The tofu sections (of which there were two) were ridiculous. I was able to find the pre-fried variety that both of my recipes called for. Also interesting was the fish cakes section. I almost got a package to try, but I'll save it for a later date. Also grabbed some canned lychees (which I considered an expensive and rare delicacy before I bought a can for $1.29 at H Mart) and a HUGE pouch of miso. I never buy miso because it can be so spendy at a Sunflower of Whole Foods....at H Mart there were a gazillion different varieties and the kind I picked was $3. Next time I need to spend more time in the noodle and soy sauce sections. At this point in my H Mart journey, my arms were about to fall off. I didn't even make it into housewares and rice cookers. I'm heading back this weekend and blowing my grocery budget. Be warned. read more

What can I say about this place that hasn't been said already? I don't know -- therefore you should probably read the in-depth reviews here some more. I will add a few points (I'm stunned I haven't reviewed this place before, since I lived in this area a few years ago as well as presently)... *) They not only have items for any and all sorts of Asian cuisines, but they also carry an aisle of Hispanic-oriented foods/drinks as well -- including a bucketful of Jarrito flavors. I've also seen Jewish, Arabic and Indian products offered there as well. *) Prices for some Asian products, since they are imported, can seem (and are) obscenely high at times. If you dig around long enough, you'll see what i mean. *) If you love boba, they have a boba bar there with at least 25 flavors...pic will be uploaded shortly. *) Covered already, but it's housewares/boutiques/satellite mini-stores (a bakery inside the store makes *really* yummy "honey bread"...and warns people to only take a single small sample. Boooo :) ), as well as the vast grocery, produce section, and meat/seafood counter. *) They have about 25 different varieties of oyster sauce there, a staple of Oriental stir-fry; produced by 6-12 manufacturers. Apparently, they were out of the one I was advised by Carrie C to get...instead of getting pure Lee Kum Kee oyster sauce, I got the "panda brand" of LKK oyster sauce. How different is that? Couldn't tell ya...I'm hoping the difference is negligible. *) I've been to a small handful of large-sized Asian groceries before, and without fail, all of them have had large Asian beverage sections, including my favorite treat, a chilled bottle of "young coconut juice". I scoured that store for a good 20-25 minutes seeking this delicacy -- the closest I got was half a dozen varieties of coconut milk...even coconut *oil*...but NO young coconut juice. Buh?! o_O Pacific Ocean Marketplace had it...why can't you guys? Phail...and for that and the oyster sauce outage, I'm hacking off a star. Otherwise, if you need something exotic, or want to window shop and maybe pick up a cute little sushi rolling mat or sake set, rice cooker, or evil Hello Kitty whatever, you can very likely find it here. My first impression was "Finally, a legit Korean market in Colorado..." Since my family lives in CO Springs, the Korean markets around here are either family run hole in the wall places, or very overpriced (because they can when there's no one else around). So every time we are on the way back from Denver, we stop by H Mart to pick up all the Korean groceries we need. Good thing they actually have a bakery, wide selection of fresh produce, and every aisle is packed with every ingredient you need. I come from Orange County/LA where Koreans are everywhere, and Korean markets are around the corner of every city. But for Colorado, this is it if you're looking for Korean/Asian food. This market is actually a chain of H Marts all over the US. The lasting impression? "For those who live a little further away, take advantage of the market when you're nearby and stock up!" read more

Hmart is an adventure....plenty of exotic fruits and vegetables as well as fresh fruit and veggie much cheaper than Safeways or King Soopers. Great place for baby bokchoy, basil, papaya, melons, mushrooms, garlic and herbs for half the price. Asian and Latin American fruits from plantains and mangos to guanabana, star fruit and even durian for the most adventurous (luckily sold frozen). Once you have filled your cart with greens, you have as many options on fish and meats. Great fresh variety of fish, shellfish and squid and octopus and plenty of sushi grade cuts as well. Beef, chicken, duck and plenty of cuts of each Pickled veggies, tofu and fresh miso and a huge selection of frozen Asian meals Then, you get to the dried goods and most of the stuff has no English translation so it is quite fun although most things can be figured out Best part, many stalls around the supermarket where you can sample fruits, sauces and different dishes. This is the largest Asian market I've been to compared to one in Washington DC. I was so impressed, there's really nothing you can't find. Sometimes the kimchi is sold quickly so I would call ahead if that's what you're coming for. The jar kimchi is way better than their smaller plastic containers of kimchi they put out. The produce section, I think, puts Whole Foods to shame as well as fresh fish market in the back... By fresh, I mean they're still swimming... And the prices are definitely reasonable. I don't know why everyone doesn't shop here :) Another plus plus plus, there are a variety of Asian restaurants attached, inside and outside or across the street and a cute little Korean bakery inside with delicate rolls, some of which are full of sweet bean that take me on a trip back to childhood. How have I lived so much of my life without having traveled to H-Mart before? I mean, other than the inherent visceral hatred that I feel for Aurora (pretty natural right guys?). I've been to most Asian markets in town, and in other towns, and have never cone across one quite like this. When you walk in to H-Mart your nose is assaulted with a smell that is anything but pleasant, but which is warmly comforting. It smells like the world outside our doors. This site had a huge selection of produce, frozen foods, snacks, staples, you name it... Good merchandise, good prices, good time. Pro tip: show up on Saturday evening and they do Costco style samples throughout the store. #Winning. read more

I've seen the reviews of H Mart and they have made me quite curious, then I realized the other day, it's right on my way home from work, so I had to stop. Plus, I've been craving some roasted, salted, seaweed for weeks, so this was perfect timing. Woah....this place is insane! I totally loved wandering around the isles just checkin stuff out. I grabbed some items, not really knowing what I was getting, but I was having fun. And I was ecstatic to see a lady roasting and salting seaweed imported from Korea right there in the entrance! I stocked up. What really impressed me is the seafood department. What a selection. I am going to have to go back and be adventurous in that department! I tell my white friends that they're being robbed if they ever buy pad thai noodles from Safeway. Here's why you go to H Mart: - cheaper and more variety of veggies - WAY cheaper herbs (basil, cilantro, mint, etc. etc.) $0.99 gets you a bunch of them, not 3 leaves in a nicely packed plastic vacuum box. - More meat selections - how often do you find a thing of cow tongue AND pig's ears in your neighborhood Safeway?! - Gyoza / potstickers galore! - Asian sauces... racks and racks of them... - bigillion types of noodles, frozen, freshly made, refrigerated.... you name it, they got it. - Different kinds of asian sodas - Why pay $3 for a coconut juice at Wholesfood when you can get them for $0.99 here? - fish for your sushi needs - Live tilapia at super reasonable price. I use this shop very regular bases ( once a week at least) and the place always met my expectation as far as product goes, and also customer service goes, until last weekend, when I try to buy a gift for my parents at the Korean ginseng place within the Hmart store. the lady who works was very rude and unprofessional. I was waiting right in front of her to ring out my gift and she also acknowledged I was ready to pay. Well, she kept on talking to her friend/customer about Church and whatever else in Korean ( she must thought I did not understand any Korean) for good 2 minutes while I stand right in front of her. Ok. Fine.. I gave her cash to pay for the gift and she say only credit card to be used because the store is busy and they cannot accept cash today. What??? I was only customer at the stand.. That just doesn't make sense at all!!! I don't know if I am being sensitive or if this lady is just plain rude. I could at least understand that if she did not have an access to cash register and ask some what nicely why they can only accept CC. I just had never heard such answer in my life. Think Wal-Mart, but Asianified. You can buy nearly anything asian here, from rice cookers, to cute bento boxes, to sauces I can't pronounce or obscure Ramen flavors. It's the best place in the Denver area to buy my asian goods that I can't find anywhere else. They carry mostly Korean and Japanese goods here but I was able to find the Filipino products I was looking for. You just gotta know what you're looking for. I was really overwhelmed last time I came. I was faced with SOOO many choices for curry and ramen (I had to look for pictures to distinguish what flavors were what). One of the best quick meal items they carry is the ready to cook bulgogi-GENIUS! I am disappointed though that they don't carry bulk brown rice bags but 20 other kinds of white rice. read more

Who can't be a fan of H Mart when you're looking for specialty Asian items for cooking (which I do a lot)? With a comment like that, how could you guess that I'd just give this place 3 stars... well, if you're looking for something, which I often do, that isn't packaged in English, it's really difficult to find what it is you're looking for and most of the stocking staff can't help you either. That being said, they have the most comprehensive selection of sauces and such that I've seen here in Denver - from ponzus, to various types of soy sauce, fish/oyster sauces, chili sauces, cooking sauces, etc. H Mart generally has better prices on fruits and vegetables than you can get at King Soopers or Safeway, but is usually more than Sprouts. Then again, I can't always find Dragonfruit, Asian Pears, and various other things at any of those other places. And it's probably just an unjustified "me" thing, but I don't think I'd ever buy meat or fish from here. It's just a little street market for me compared to what's to be found in a supermarket. If you like sheets of seaweed for snacks, this is place to go (get the kind with the woman with the flat-top haircut in the PINK packaging - those are the sesame ones.) They also have the most amazing selection of dry ramen and great Asian candy. read more

I've been to H Mart a few times - most recently after I returned from a trip to Japan and China. What I like about this place is that you can get all the really efficient appliances (rice cookers, tea kettles, etc.) that you see in Asia...but they're also quite expensive here. Each time I've been here, I've picked up a container of the Korean pork for the grill - this stuff is delicious! You can find it in the freezer chests near the meat counter. They also have seaweed salad by the pound and you get so much more for your money than you'd get in a Japanese restaurant. read more

Ok, I know I said I get all my Asian ingredients from Pacific Mercantile--for Japanese and Chinese foods. Korean? That is whole 'nother ball game folks. I get excited every time I plan to make a trip to H-Mart. I only go once in a while because it is so darn FAR from my apartment in Golden- 45 minutes 1 way!! However!! They have a HUGE selection of fresh produce and meat, and their prices for these things absolutely cannot be beat! They always have some sort of specialty meat (bulgogi, duck, pigs feet-not that I eat pigs feet-) on sale, and throughout this Wal-Mart sized Korean wonder they have different sections selling just about anything you could possibly want! From cooking utensils, storage containers (which, being Korean made are so much better than the rubbermaid you can find in target), beauty products, to home-made tofu and boba! Oh, and there's this little section by the registers where a little old lady sells her fresh-baked Korean goodies- OMG to die for!!!!!!- I'm talking Angel bread, sweetrolls, cakes, loafs of delicious homemade bread and cookies-- Ahh- my mouth is watering. I can't go to H-mart without stopping there and spending an extra $20 on all sorts of goodies that are AMAZING. Sometimes H-mart is a little packed its true. But that should be a sign to you that it is great! I really love coming here! read more

It's like stepping into a whole different world. So much diversity here. Mostly Asian people but there always seems to be a good amount of Indian and middle eastern people who shop here too. If you are white, there is a good chance that you may just be the only white person in the whole store when you shop there. I am white as a ghost, however everybody (employees and customers alike) will treat you with respect and I have never noticed ANY hostility here. It is always PACKED (you think Walmart on a saturday is bad... HA!). So many people of so many different backgrounds joined together by the common love of oriental food! You may be overwhelmed at the amount of items you come across here that you have NO IDEA what they are. Luckly for you, most items have a nutritional value sticker added onto it that tells you in English what the item is. If not for that, I'd be way lost! NOT TO MENTION that MOST Asian customers there who speak English are HAPPY to answer questions for you or translate something on a product label if you are polite to them. HUGE produce section. Just about everything you can think of. Not only imported Asian produce but also a nice selection of local produce that rivals supermarkets. 5 stars, no complaints. read more

Oh how I love this place. Great selection of fish and hard to find meats (rabbit, anyone?). Unbelievable produce selections. Some of my favorite items that are often in stock are enoki and oyster mushrooms, thai eggplant, mandarins, baby bok choy, ataulfo mangoes, yucca, galangal and lemon grass. They have the best selection or rice crackers, rice cookers, and um...rice that you can find in the metro area. Let us not forget about all the cute little vendors selling snacks, glasses, appliances, etc. My absolute fav is the vendor with all the little cookies...they are absolutely delish. Two negatives. 1) There is always a long wait at the registers and 2) some of their "pre-packaged" produce is a scam to sell you rotten produce mixed in with nice looking produce. read more

I like this store. I hate being IN this store, but I like it. Seriously, this store's got some cool ish goin' on! It's a really great place to get in touch with my asian side. This place has some seriously crazy selection here. Cookware, seafood, REALLY fantastic produce, a lot of little Asia goodies (think snacks & goodies you normally wouldn't find here in America), and a really loud machine that shoots out.. what, Korean tortillas or something? Plus, this store has a bunch of MINI stores inside of it! Like a little restaurant, a little shop that sells clothes, one that sells bedding, an eyeglasses shop-- it's all quite cute. Plus the aforementioned Korean tortilla machine. It's really a fun place: incredible selection at good prices. My only issue is you leave here smelling like a greasy frying pan, but that's only thanks to all the free samples they're always fryin up! read more

I love this store! For starters, the staff are so helpful. Some will even offer their two cents on products in your basket. Now if you come, you're hungry and want a snack, you can buy some boba tea as you shop. The seafood would likely be the freshest in the state, since you can pick your own shellfish live in the tank. And after you finish, you can get lunch in the restaurant I'm store. The fried rice is different but still tasty. They've got a great housewares department. I'll probably get one of everything. So far, I've been wanting to get a new teapot here. They're so pretty and so inexpensive. In other stores, they would be 40 dollars or 70 for a cast iron one. The cast iron one there is 40. I might get one of the pretty ceramic ones. Or a tea set. I've been trying to get my family to do some shopping here but so far, not much luck. Mom shows interest, though. read more

OK, I'm going to start off by saying that I still love this place! However, buying fish here is not a good idea. I recently purchased a couple of tuna steaks that were labeled "sashimi grade". I was going to make ceviche with them. After not even having them 24 hours, they smelled kind of fishy, which as most fish connoisseurs will tell you is not a good sign. Instead of making ceviche, I threw them on the grill. After taking one bite, I spit it out. It was BAD fish! Another experience with H-Mart drew me into some sashimi grade salmon and yellowtail. I took them home, sliced them up and just ate them raw. It wasn't the best fish I had ever had, but it didn't taste bad. The rest of the night I felt funny. I didn't actually get sick, but I was on the verge of it. For veggies, dry goods and even meat, H-Mart is great! I have purchased stir fry beef, pork and chicken here on several occasions and they were all fine. However, I will never again buy fish from H-Mart and I suggest anyone reading this heeds my warning! read more

It's stinky but good. I am a regular at the Har Mart. I wish they had a Chinese/Mongolian + north and South Chinese section :( They have a lot of fish choices and they are always cheaper than Safeway and Queen Soopers. I love the large selection of Udon, Soba and rice noodles. My favorite tea is Genmai-cha and it happens they carry several brands of this style of tea. Mmmmm Tea. You have to watch the vegetable/fruit section because sometimes things are left out and are not always fresh. I was going to buy some blueberries today but all the packs had mold somewhere on them. Other than that the vegetables are pretty cheap. For those who like HotPot I think that I have seen some boilers for sale there. But I am not sure. It might be better to order one online. I should have brought one back from China. Grrrrrrr. They sell some other odds and ends like comforters and plates. They also have a movie rental area. If you live in the area and need some Asian ethnic ingredients then this is a good place. I have been to some good stinky places on Federal also.
