He fought in the Apache Wars, the Sioux Wars, the Battle of San Juan Hill, the Moro Rebellion, the Pancho Villa Expedition and of course led the American forces during World War I, 1917-1918. The marker reads, "General John J. Pershing, commander of the American Expeditionary Forces to Europe in World War I, was Professor of Military Science at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln between September 1891 and June 1895. Upon his arrival in Lincoln, which was to become his family's home, Pershing found the morale of the Reserve Officers Training Corps at low ebb. To infuse life into the corps, Pershing built an elite drill team which eventually became known as the Society of Pershing Rifles. The organization served its purpose well, and from 1900-1911 it carried prestige not only in military circles but in the social life of the University as well. Many of its young officer-graduates were on active duty in the Spanish-American War and in World War I. After Pershing was transferred to another post, interest in the Rifles waned and in 1917 it was disbanded. Interest returned in the 1920s, and in 1925 a chapter was installed at Ohio State University. Today Pershing Rifle Societies are found in over 100 universities. Pershing was elected to the Nebraska Hall of Fame in 1964, and his bust placed in the Nebraska State Capitol in 1965." [Review 11388 overall, 1165 of 2019.]

Fortunately, your Lincoln library card will allow you to enjoy all this (unfortunately, for me, I live in Omaha and we don't have a music library). We visited here to see a lecture/performance by the iconic free improvisation saxophonist Jack Wright. I was really impressed with the programs being offered here. Scott is really helpful and it's obvious that he really cares about all things music. This was my first visit here, I will definitely be back.

I ask to send it First Class. The US postal worker replies, "For First Class packages, I am not allowed to tape the box. If you send it Priority then I can tape it for you." As we can both see some tape behind the plexiglass. Well being that I wasn't hiding any packaging tape up my butt just for a moment like this, I then asked to send it Priority. The US postal worker replies, "Okay, then I will have to ask you to step out of line and fill out a Priority label so I may help someone else." Because it takes so much time to write down 2 addresses. I stepped out of line and went to FedEx, spent less than 5 minutes there, total. They taped the box. If USPS must adhere to asinine policies sure, if USPS workers want to be smug I'm out. I tried. The 2 stars is for the line moving at a reasonable pace.
