Our tour guide Allison did a wonderful job showing us the interesting details in many parts of the building. Having visited several state capitols in Western States, I wasn't sure what to expect here in Nebraska. The tour was well organized and gathered all the participants first before going over the ground rules. We got to learn all about the history of the cave which was actually really neat! There were pictures on an iPad highlighting all the key aspects in history. It was cool to look at all the drawing and notes on the cave walls as well as why the cave structure is the way it is. We got to be in large spaces and climb into smaller ones! The tour guide was incredible. He kept it fun with jokes and timed all the transitions really well. He was a great teacher.

Running over the Jamaica North Trail is an abandoned train trestle which marks the site of the 9…read moreAug 1894 Rock Island train derailment. The crash and massive fire resulted in the deaths of eleven passengers and crew. Running across this historic site during a run up the trail was an unexpected surprise. The area, although close to suburbs is nonetheless filled with deer, sampling corn from adjacent fields and dashing across the trail back into the wilderness when disturbed. I recommend the Jamaica North Trail and a visit to the Rock Island Wreck Site if you're hiking, biking, or jogging.

The long-awaited bathroom renovations were complete when I last visited in July 2009. It's nice, though I regret the space it took up in the main theater. Renovations are on-going - the owner works a second job to support the theater. Second run theater and more - they bring in magic shows, host birthday parties, and will do private showings of films (independent, special-interest such as Indian, etc.) . During football season they show the games on the big screen (for free!) and sell concessions. They do cheap matinees of kiddie films in the summer, and in October the owner brings back Rocky Horror. Nice marquee, big screen, big venue (cavernous - seats 300, less the couple of seats removed to make space for the expanded bathrooms). The owner is a sweet guy who was very good to us when we ran a Rocky Horror cast here - we still come back and visit occasionally. It's the sort of place where if you're a regular they learn your name.
