So as I sat…read morestaring at my laptop thinking about all the negative things I possible could to fit into this dismal day, I had a brain wave, let's think about my favourite place on the planet. Alas, here I am. I've been visiting Burgau since I was 2 years old and have been every year since then (twice on most occasions), and despite loving everything about the place - the Beach Bar is just something else. You'll see from the pictures that it's set in a beautiful place, in a beautiful little village on the coast of the Algarve and, as you could guess, right on the beach. The bar itself serves several purposes; during the day it houses beach goers looking for a nice lunch, and ice cream or evening a midday jug of sangria, and by night it's a beautifully decorated restaurant serving some of the freshest seafood in Portugal! My personal favourite here is the Swordfish steak, served with fresh salad and your choice of potatoes, I enjoy it that much I refuse to have Swordfish anywhere else! The king prawns are another big hit here, as is the Piri-piri Chicken! Family owned and operated (by an English/Portuguese family) for it's entirety, the Beach Bar seemingly has the wooing effect on anyone that passes by. Friends families and complete strangest are all caught up in the nostalgia of this place and you're often rubbing shoulders with some celebs that have houses nearby - Ian Rush & Michael Owen to name a couple! It's a big ask to tell someone to book an entire holiday based on one place, however I wholeheartedly believe you'd fall in love with this place (and I don't even know who 'you' are). However, on our most recent holiday, we were only there with one thing in mind - the wedding of the other half's auntie. Taking place on a Saturday afternoon for the ceremony and following party, we were pleased that the sun had started to go in and they provided plenty of outdoor cover for those who wanted in. The small ceremony area looked lovely, and there were sunflowers dotted about the place. The food provided was absolutely delicious. Although buffet style - I assumed that, if serving myself, I probably wouldn't go for much due to the heat of Luz - I found myself piling my plate right up! There was a thai chicken curry which was absolutely delicious, and a kind of beef stew (or perhaps Scouse, seeing as much of the party were from Liverpool...nice touch!), along with some seafood for those who wanted it, and a lovely duck and chorizo paella. Safe to say, I was stuffed! Staff coped well with the activities that ensued i.e. plenty of dancing and many spilled drinks on said dancefloor, but they got involved and didn't appear to be too fussed! The fries were plentiful and the burgers pretty tall. My burger was very good although the patty was definitely a little under especially in the middle. K was not in top form, feeling not great all morning and hoped that food would help, it did not, so we'll reserve judgement on her burger. Patty done a bit more this is a 5 star review but medium is not medium rare, maybe even a little less than that. Servers are great, the restaurant is great the vibe is great.
