Delicious locally sourced Algarve seafood at an exceptionally fair price; Prato Chei is the place to be. We ordered the seafood rice (only available on Sunday), fish of the day cataplana, and squid Algarve style. The portions were pretty large, so we got our fill of shrimp, stone crab, sea bass, and clams. The seafood rice had so much crab roe in it, imparting an umami bomb of flavor that was complemented by the al dente rice. The cataplana came steaming out of the copper pot. Perfectly briny seafood forward broth cooked in white whine with bell peppers. The squid was so tender and went well with the buttered potatoes.
They also had a magnificent selection of desserts. You could go up to the fridge where all of them were displayed to pick some. We ended up ordered a berry cream cake with layers of hazelnut cookies. Nutty and creamy, it went well with the acidity of the fruit. read more
