Outside there is a beautiful water garden with almost an oriental feel. The decorations are beautiful, the ambience is upscale but casual. The service is exceptional. The food is excellent. Their food is Mayan fusion, serving traditional regional dishes with a modern flair. I had the pavo en escabeche indio (turkey with "pickled" onion). They also have great appetizers and some unusual but delicious desserts. I got some pictures off their Facebook page and posted them, most of which have the name of the dish on the picture itself. There is a lady and making fresh tortillas to one side of the restaurant next to their artisan bread bakery. If you want to take in some local flavor in an elegant atmosphere this is the place! Reservations are recommended. Bathrooms are very well maintained. Family friendly. Good for groups. Credit cards or cash accepted.

And I'm glad that we stepped in. We had an amazing dinner. I ordered enchiladas and I forget what my husband had. But I liked them because they tasted like the Mexican enchiladas that I'm used to. I got them with a red salsa, that wasn't too spicy, but it was good. The food in Merida is very different and it was nice to get back to some familiar flavors. We liked this place so much that we came back for breakfast the next day. Again, the meal was quite good and filling and had we come earlier in the week, we would have returned, however, there were other corners and interesting places to checkout. While there the service was very good. They weren't full. They had a cute little stand onto which I could put my purse. They also had an interesting looking bar. We did have some chips with three different salsas. Each was interesting. I also believe that we had the guacamole which was quite good and tomato-less. Overall the food was decent, but drastically overpriced compared to the numerous other options in Merida. But the worst thing about Piñuela is the service. Our waiter was never to be found, and took forever to get us basic things like water and napkins.  In fact, our dishes were sitting on the pass for so long that another waiter ended up bringing us our food. All 5 dishes all at once of course. Finally, as other reviews have mentioned they tried to sneak in a 15% tip to the bill total. I asked about it and the waiter suggested it was "optional". He then waited at our table until I paid, which was tremendously awkward. It's obvious he was trying to pressure/guilt us into paying the full tip. The management at the restaurant clearly cares nothing about the experience of its customers. Please from my mistake and don't bother with Piñuela.

Salon Gallos couldn't be cooler - located in an old oat mill, it has amazing architecture and decor. Its menu is Yucatecan-Lebanese fusion, which is both delicious and reflective of an interesting aspect of Merida's history! Lebanese immigration to Mexico began in the 19th century, made up 5% of Mexico's immigrant population and half of the immigrant economic activity in Mexico in the 1930s, and has influenced and shaped Merida since for decades. So now that I've covered the history, onto the meal! We shared several dishes: Labne Gallo Negro (Lebanese yogurt sauce with black recado and olive oil and served with pita bread tortilla chips); Kibi Maya (mixture of beef and pork with mint, rustic sauce, black labne mirror, and pickled onion); flautas de calabaza maya (crispy tortilla rolls stuffed with local pumpkin, served with papadzul and rustic tomato sauce); and the huarache de pulpo (Grilled Mayan octopus with green pipian, pickled onions, beans, and radish). Every dish was good, but the kibbeh and the flautas were to die for. I asked for wine menu because their website refers to a wine bar and so I assumed you could have the wine from the wine bar at the restaurant. Not so. They had a house white and a house red, both from Chile, which was kind of a bummer, because their wine bar menu has several natural wines on it, many from Mexico, that I was really looking forward to trying. To be honest, I'm not even sure where the wine bar is located! I did enjoy the white Chilean wine I was able to order by the glass but switched to a cocktail after that. The service was good - friendly, fast, helpful. So, overall, the meal was good - interesting, delicious, and fun. And the restaurant is beautiful. I just wish I could have tried some of those wines listed on the wine bar menu!

Definitely can be intimate and romantic for a date when dining al fresco or trendy for groups indoors. Wanted to stay for the movie but it's in Japanese with Spanish subtitles. Be sure to check as movies will change often. The paella was fantastic and really filling for the both of us. I enjoyed my limon con chia drink while my husband enjoyed his Black Magic Woman cocktail. Definitely a must to check out!

A Delicious, Light Gem…read more Ki'ool was a fantastic surprise during our brief stay in Mérida. The menu contained some refreshingly light and healthy alternatives to the wonderful Yucatecan cuisine which abounds here: we each had a fantastic chicken dish with hummus and a delicious salad accompanied by some exceptional baba ganouj (which I normally dislike). The ambiance was bright and airy, in the street level of a famous building, the casa Catherwood. The chef owner was helpful and charming and we felt like we had stepped into a pleasant oasis. We ended up visiting twice in three days. You'll be happy when you check it out!
