The location is wrong. La Cubanita is on 56 between 41 and 39...I put in for a correction. Great little spot for Cuban cocina económica. Offers 4-5 dishes a day for 150 pesos, which includes a salad, rice & beans, and plantains. Hubby and I got the picadillo, which was flavored perfectly and was a lot of food. All the sides were great too, I especially enjoyed the vinaigrette on the salad. The taste and vibe was as if you were sitting in a Cuban family's kitchen, which basically you are. The spot is small, and also serves as an art gallery. They accommodated us and our dogs inside and service was fabulous. English was spoken if needed. Definitely recommend! read more

La Cubanita is great! Best Cuban food in Merida! It is great example of the 3 B's, bueno, Boni to, barato (good, pretty, cheap). Their ropavieja is to die for served with congress and sweet fried plantains. I ate my portion over 3 days! Cuban sandwich was fabulous, huge! And it's the real thing. Great little restaurant that feels like you are eating in someone's house. We arrived at the end of breakfast and before noon lunch start time. We came for the Cuban sandwich so no problem. The sandwich is big enough for two to split for 70 pesos. I got a coke and my wife got water and our bill was 115 pesos. One of the best places for lunch. The food is authentic Cuban. The ropa viaje is excellent. You have a few options. Would go for the chicken or the beef. In the mood for a Cuban sandwich, go for it. Enough for two. All portions are large. The vegetarian option is a large salad. Entrees come with salad and rice/beans. The flan is rich and delicious. As others have said it is like eating in the family's home. Best value in Merida. read more

Great food at a reasonable price. We thoroughly enjoyed an omelette and scrambled egg brunch. The ingredients were very tasty: cheese, eggs, ham, onions and tomatoes. The baguette with butter was sliced thinly and toasted. The owner was most pleasant, as was his family, whom we got to chat with (in Spanish) briefly. Breakfast is served till noon with lunch commencing at that time. The luncheon menu changes daily and is posted outside on a blackboard. As a reminder, there are only five tables in this tiny restaurant which has superb food. Come for the food and not the ambience. read more

Don't hate me Merida but I need more than Yucatecan. La Cubanita gives me choice. Yesterday I went to Cubanita, and they had a mixed seafood dish with rice. It was delicious. We ordered a Cuban sandwich to share. The bread was horrible and practically disintegrated while trying to eat it. Also, it wasn't pressed as a Cuban sandwich should be. The filling (pork) was very tender and delicious but should have been sliced much thinner so the meat and filling didn't fall out of the bread while trying to eat it.. I came for a late lunch and had some delicious chicken, which was accompanied by rice and beans, avocado, and plantains. A nice salad before the main course as well. Refreshing lemonade. Tasty custard for dessert. Great service (perfect English, if you need it) and good value-for-money. Really nice family-run place. Wish I could come back for breakfast, which sounds really popular. Very small place and we were a group of eight. They put us in a back garden and treated us like very special guests to their home. We started with coffee Americano...which was individually brewed by this great Cuban family. This alone was a great surprise. We all had egg dishes and we were all very happy. This Cuban family opens their home from 8-4 daily (except Sunday's) and has about 4-5 choices (for lunch). The wife does the cooking and the husband is the waitstaff. They speak English, so that is nice. I found the place charming. The prices range from $3-$4 for a plate of food or Cuban sandwich. We ordered 3 different plates and they were all very good. Was it excellent, not really, but more like good cooking from home. I feel that they deserved 5 stars because of food, value (near centro is hard to find plates of food that cheap) and fast, friendly service. The flan was $1 and the best flan we have had in Mexico these last two months. Go there just for the flan if anything. read more

The vegetarian expected the side salad, rice and plantain. Got that plus a HUGE salad of mixed veggies including spiral zucchini, carrot, beets, cabbage, cucumber and tomato. read more
