3.5 is pretty accurate. Came on a Sunday night pretty late around 9pm for a late dinner. When I arrived the restaurant was about 50% full, mostly an older crowd. Overall meal was decent though service stood out more. It's pretty large inside, I think easily seating for 150 people in the main dining room and bar area. There's a larger area set apart in the back that looked like it could be booked separately for a larger function up to 100ish people. The interior was pretty traditional with dark wood tables, chairs and brown banquette seating, taupe walls and a mixture of art-deco-style chandeliers and lightbulbs for ceiling lighting. Upon walking inside, a bar is on the right and most of the seating toward the center and left. The waiter for the section I was in was very cordial, did everything very textbook in terms of asking for my drink and food orders, and checking in periodically. Appreciated the effort! To drink I had a beer (forgot exactly which but seem to remember it being something on tap and I enjoyed it. For food I got the Wiener Schnitzel €24 which is a deep friend breaded veal cutlet pounded thin which came over a potato salad; this seemed like a popular item. The serving size was pretty good, the crispness of the breading was just right and the veal wasn't too dry. Though after eating a full dish of this, it felt heavy, kinda needed some greens or other vegetables, and maybe something saucy, to break it up. They take cash and card, and accept reservations. Definitely not bad, but slightly overrun at some times and the service seems to be a little overdone but friendly though... The grilled Octopus with squid Spaghetti was so delicious! Perfectly grilled, extremely nice spiced. Drinks are a bit boring and in my opinion too expensive. read more

Nicer dine in restaurant featuring German dishes, while still having chicken Caesar salad for the kids. Service was excellent, our waiters wine pairing suggestions were excellent. Really enjoyed our Wiener schnitzel and fried chicken dishes. We didn't even have to try to flag down the waiter for the check, first time ever on our German trip. read more

I had just wanted to rest my feet and get a hot chocolate. Saw some bread at a nearby table and asked for that, too. I can't say much about the food, but the servers spoke decent English, so I always appreciate that and give them higher marks. The hot chocolate was watery. The bread was okay. The staff seemed very hurried, so weren't as attentive. I'm not blaming the staff, they may have been short servers that day, which I would blame on the management. On a reasonably nice day, it's nice to sit outside, have a drink, and people-watch. All in all, I really like overall vibe of the place. Quiet and elegant. Really bad prefix dinner for 40 people- salad had no dressing on it - asked for more and was told there is already dressing on the salad- NONE of us could taste any hint of dressing- just lettuce, 4 cherry tomatoes and some slides radish. Hackescher Hof in the touristy Hackescher Hoefe is the perfect place for brunch on Sundays or quiet late lunch or early dinner before going to the cinema. It's in a beautifully renovated building, with dark wood panelling and has a clubby lounge/cafe and traditional white tablecloth dining area. 1. The Food International/German cuisine. Their soups and sandwiches are great, especially the club sandwich (comes with a crisp salad) and pumpkin soup. Desserts are simple but very satisfying. The Apfelstrudel is filled with tart apples and raisins and served with whipped cream or creamy vanilla ice cream. They have a weekly menu, based on in-season veggies, also highly recommended. 2. The Staff Quick and polite. 3. The atmosphere Clubby, comfy, traditional cafe and restaurant. 4. The damage Expect to pay 5-14 euros per entree. Drinks are 3-10. They have a decent wine list. 5. We waited for an hour before they finally served us our food, and the waitresses are so rude to us. Food was ok. The only reason i gave a one star is because there's a cute dog hanging out at the table next to us, made the wait more bearable. Other than that, not recommended. read more

Many tourists visit the Hackescher Hof in Mitte, so you'd expect the restaurant would offer some decent food, which was certainly not the case when I visited there last week. All I wanted was a nice little breakfast. The 'Brötchen' (bread rolls) were the type you buy in packs from Lidl or Aldi. They Should have at least been crispy, but they were very soft and appeared to have been lying in the basket for some time. The rest of the food was obviously cheap pre-packed & sliced which I wouldn't have expected in such a place. We complained to the uninterested waitress, who promptly exchanged my roll for a slice of dark pumpernickel type bread which apparently was the only other option available. Never again ! read more

I was here for friendsgiving during our vacay in Nov 2015 in Berlin. I was in search of a spot that had German cuisine. The place was very roomy and quite a nice restaurant. I ordered the a fish entree w dumplings. Was different but fairly good. My friends of course ordered steaks. A pleasant restaurant. read more

We tried their lunch menu, both 2 courses and 3 courses. The price is very reasonable for the quality. I had the potato pasta with artichoke and potato leek soup. Both dishes are very tasty. The main dish my friend ordered was also very tasty (l sampled a few bites). The service is very good. I highly recommend trying their lunch menu!! read more

During our recent stay in Mitte, we ate at least twice at Hackescher Hof and had a late-afternoon cup of tea there as well. On every occasion, our servers were cordial and professional, suffering my German with good humor. The food was also first-rate: fresh ingredients, simply but tastily prepared, and well-presented. The restaurant's decorations mirror the Jungendstil motifs of the Hackescher Höfe in which it is located and create a stylish ambience. Mitte is chock-a-block with tourists, but we found the clientele to be a mix of locals and tourists--probably the winter months dilute the tourist cadre somewhat. If you are staying in Mitte, Hackescher Hof can easily serve as an oasis in the midst of or at the end of a busy day. read more

Ausgezeichnet means "terrific" and perfectly describes this nouveau German café & restaurant. The wood panel front café and bar are for drinks, coffee and casual dining. In back is an elegant dining room. Extensive German and Austrian menu features great food and wine at reasonable prices. We stopped in for lunch on a rainy fall afternoon. My wife chose the veal meatballs in caper sauce, I had the goulash. Both were well seasoned and garnished with sauté fresh vegetables. The German merlot was a perfect accompaniment. Staff was very unfriendly and uninterested. The menu card was just thrown on our table. When we wanted to ask the waiter something, he held up his hand to say he was busy and we had to wait. Who does that?! I think they don't care about customer service, since there will be customers anyway because of the touristic location. read more

We really came for the gorgeous setting in one of Berlin's prettiest courtyards. It was way too much to expect that the food would be delicious, but it was! I ate a really strange vegetarian dish that was quite divine -- sweet potatoes coated in a thin sprinkling of quinoa, on a bed of delicious white beans and walnuts, served with thinly shaved carrots and parsnips (I think?) and accompanied by slices of a dark purple plum and plum sauce. One of the best vegetarian meals I've ever had in a perfect setting. My friend had the mushroom risotto which also was tasty. I'd say it is definitely worth a visit, despite the rather touristy setting. read more
