Kiechel Fine Art was a stop on the Nebraska Passport this year (2023) and we visited around 10:00…read moream on a Wednesday in midMay. We were greeted by the attendant who explained that Kiechel features local and regional artists on the two floors that are open to the public. An extensive collection of Thomas Hart Benson drawings were featured on the second floor showcasing his talent outside of the murals that I was more familiar with. The main floor walls represented local artists. Parking in downtown Lincoln is a challenge, and once you find a spot you then deal with the parking meter. We downloaded the parking app and reserved our space for an hour. We spent the first 15 minutes trying to find the building and resorted to asking a clerk at the optical shop. Kiechel has been operating since 1986 but lacks signage and the building number is difficult to see from any distance. The gallery is worth a stop, but you too may have difficulty finding this little gem among the buildings and traffic in downtown Lincoln. I would recommend downloading the parking app before heading to the capital city.

Metered street parking and complementary parking behind the building is available but can be a little tight during weekends and evenings. Expert assistance with frame selection, restoration, and gallery supporting wonderful local artists. Gifts and handmade specialties must be seen! They made me feel comfortable and worked with me on a few things (Which I was completely taken back by) Because there were little to no comps in the area I really struggled but ended up finding a few great comps to show them along with some other additional information to help the valuation out that no one was aware of at the time. My expectations were not very high on what they would do with the information I found and I for sure thought the deal was dead, but to my surprise they agreed to take some info into consideration. She only wanted to use neighborhood comps instead of my personal custom appraisal for upgrades, stating that banks, loan officers, relators, etc. do not count these things and asking me how would I value , newer higher cost windows, added concrete , bird-boxes (11) , overhangs (3), etc. She told on our phone conversation that she had a new system that would fill in all the added upgrades to calculate these things, that regular comps will not figure or tale into account. So, I more or less cancelled her and her 30 years experience of bragging about 20 times or more. Really made me sick that she not stop talking about being the best. I had a great experience here! I walked in with a pair of my mother's earrings for an appraisal,…read more(my family's chipping in to help out my grandparents.) The owners were really helpful. The earrings are cubic zirconium, they didn't charge me for the appraisal. The pieces they have under glass are really pretty and definitely worth checking out.
