Driving range and club house. Cart pick-up to the left. Short and walkable course so carts are not necessary.

This review is specifically for the chip, putt, and driving range at HC, not for the actual course. Pros: I have golfed in at least a dozen states and this is by far the best chip and putt in a public course that I have seen. The grounds are extensive and there are multiple practice holes you can play at. The terrain is varied and also includes two sand traps for practice. This property is also underutilized. We were there on a Sunday and spring and while the driving range was full, we had two different greens and two of the hazards to practice on by ourselves. I got the impression that few even realized that the space was available for practice. Cons: The grass was typical for a public course. It was a good height and you could tell it had been cut recently, but it was definitely not the quality you see at a private location. There is also no pro shop or snack bar/ cafe like most courses have, so if you want to take a break somewhere, you are out of luck. I'm guessing this is because HC is only a 9 hole executive course and learning center, rather than a full 18. Overall, I recommend this as one of the better public places to practice in Rochester.

Oak Summit is right off the highway and next to the lightly-trafficked Rochester airport. Full disclosure: I didn't actually play a full game of golf here. I came for the driving range. I'm an amateur still trying to figure out my swing, and I'm not quite ready to join the big boys out on the course. Judging by how I did on the range, it might be a while before I write you all a review of the course proper--I've got a lot of work to do. On first impression, though, the course is very nice. There's a ton of diverse foliage on the course (I think that's the first time I've used the word "foliage" in a review) and some nice ponds and such. Oh, I can't wait until I can actually "play" golf to get out there on this course! So, the range. I'm not sure if other places have this sort of setup (I've only been to a few ranges), but it's terraced. There's a section to hit balls from, and then 5 feet ahead there is a steep drop and another area to shoot from. There were only a few people here this day, and they were all on the upper section. Good thing nobody was shooting from the lower section, because some of my balls ended up there (oops!). It's a really beautiful driving range they have here. Most places just have a flat field with tacky signs marking different distances, but this one was filled with undulating hills (and, again, tons of trees surrounding it!). Well, I guess that's all I can say about the driving range. It's pretty nice. Inside, they have a small "bar" (although it's more like some seats and a few bottles of liquor on the counter, along with a couple of types of beer to choose from). Range tokens were reasonably-priced (I don't remember any exact prices, but it was on par (pun intended) with other places I've been to). I really like the driving range and can't wait to play the course!
