Oak Summit is right off the highway and next to the lightly-trafficked Rochester airport. Full disclosure: I didn't actually play a full game of golf here. I came for the driving range. I'm an amateur still trying to figure out my swing, and I'm not quite ready to join the big boys out on the course. Judging by how I did on the range, it might be a while before I write you all a review of the course proper--I've got a lot of work to do. On first impression, though, the course is very nice. There's a ton of diverse foliage on the course (I think that's the first time I've used the word "foliage" in a review) and some nice ponds and such. Oh, I can't wait until I can actually "play" golf to get out there on this course! So, the range. I'm not sure if other places have this sort of setup (I've only been to a few ranges), but it's terraced. There's a section to hit balls from, and then 5 feet ahead there is a steep drop and another area to shoot from. There were only a few people here this day, and they were all on the upper section. Good thing nobody was shooting from the lower section, because some of my balls ended up there (oops!). It's a really beautiful driving range they have here. Most places just have a flat field with tacky signs marking different distances, but this one was filled with undulating hills (and, again, tons of trees surrounding it!). Well, I guess that's all I can say about the driving range. It's pretty nice. Inside, they have a small "bar" (although it's more like some seats and a few bottles of liquor on the counter, along with a couple of types of beer to choose from). Range tokens were reasonably-priced (I don't remember any exact prices, but it was on par (pun intended) with other places I've been to). I really like the driving range and can't wait to play the course!

- The Best Lesson I've Had I was in Rochester for a few days…read morevisiting my grandchildren on my way to a golf trip to Scotland and was looking for golf simulators to practice before my trip. I found the Rochester Indoor Golf Center. During my first simulator practice session I overheard a golf lesson being conducted in the next bay. The instruction being communicated was technically accurate, easy to understand, and being delivered by a professional golf instructor with obviously a lot of playing and teaching experience. Not a club pro or someone with a philosophy, but solid golf instruction and teaching experience. At the end of that first session I managed to schedule a lesson from Paul Pehler. I have had many lessons over the years with a lot of different golf instructors. I have never had a more enjoyable, challenging and productive golf lesson than what I received from Paul at Rochester Indoor Golf Center. The staff at Rochester Indoor Golf Center were all very knowledgeable and helpful. If you are looking for simulator practice, real instruction, or equipment, I can't recommend this place highly enough.

Modern Americana specialties such as hand held roll up sandwiches. One of the sides is a rarely seen Tater Tot. Reminds me of 'Napoleon Dynamite', "Napoleon, give me some of your tots". The portions were surprisingly large but not to excess and reasonably priced. Service was absolutely outstanding as we were checked on but not to the point of being pesky or pushy. This is a quiet setting with large windows and a wide fireplace. Look for a relaxing lunch with friends with only soft music drifting through as you crunch another tot dipped in sauce.
